The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                     002:004

الَّذِيۡنَ يُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ بِالۡغَيۡبِ وَ يُقِيۡمُوۡنَ الصَّلٰوةَ وَمِمَّا رَزَقۡنٰهُمۡ يُنۡفِقُوۡنَۙؕ

 

Ul-la-zee-na-yoe-me-noo-na-bil-ghai-bay                                                                                   Wa-yo-qee-moo-nus-sa-lau-ta                                                                                                       Wa-mim-maa-ra-zuq-naa-hoom-yoon-fay-qoon.

 

Those who believe in the Unseen                                                                                            And observe the Prayer                                                                                                            And spend out of what We gave them.

 

  • ٱلَّذِينَ — Ulla-zee-na — Those who (= Reference is to ‘all those men, masculine gender’)
  • يُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ  — Yo-me-noon — Believe (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Enter faith; follow the Holy Qor-aan, the Islaam and are Moslems. For more meanings see Commentary Believe and Disbelieve)
  • بِ — B…(il) — In (= Literally this word in Arabic means ‘with’, but real intent is more accurately conveyed here by translating as ‘in’)
  • الۡغَيۡبِ — Ghai-bay — The Unseen (= Invisible; beyond human sight or vision)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., Connects words, phrases or clauses; also; but; additionally; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • يُقِيۡمُوۡنَ  — Yo-quee-moo-n..(us) — Observe (= Enforce, establish, maintain, openly practice or uphold praying constantly, consistently, regularly, steadfastly
  • الصَّلٰوةَ — Sa-laa-ta — Prayers (= All kinds and types of of prayers to the Almighty God; acts of worship; prayers mandated and made obligatory – the five (5) Daily prayers; prayers based upon the precedent of the Holy Prophet, s.a.w)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., Connects words, phrases or clauses; also; but; additionally; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • مِمَّا — Mim-ma — Out of what (= Combination of two words. The first is مِنۡ that means ‘among, from or out of the class, category, count, kind or several persons or things.’ The second isمَاۤ ‘maa’ that means ‘All that; what; whatever; any time; when; whenever.’ Thus the combination means ‘For what; out of what; concerning, regarding, relative to; thereby)
  • رَزَقۡ —  Ra-zuq — Gave (= v. past to bestow, endow, entrust, gift, grant or provide
  • نَا — Naa — We (= pro., pl., 1st person. Used with God’s name it is the authoritative way a higher-up talks to a subordinate)
  • هُمۡ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid believers)
  • يُنفِقُونَ — Yoon-fe-qoon — They spend  (= 1- Expend, invest, lay out, put out, use or utilize to help the needy. 2- Contribute; donate; give alms in charity. Invest in good causes helping others in need) 

Note 002:004: This verse lays out three of the 5 Acts of worships or pillars of Islam — which every Moslem is mandated to practice.
