The Holy Qor-aan 002:014
وَاِذَا قِيۡلَ لَهُمۡ اٰمِنُوۡا كَمَاۤ اٰمَنَ النَّاسُ قَالُوۡاۤ اَنُؤۡمِنُ كَمَاۤ اٰمَنَ السُّفَهَآءُ ؕ اَلَاۤ اِنَّهُمۡ هُمُ السُّفَهَآءُ وَلٰـكِنۡ لَّا يَعۡلَمُوۡنَ○
Wa-ezaa-qee-la-la-hoom-aa-may-noo-ka-maa-aa-ma-nun-naa-so Qaa-loo-aa-noe-may-no-ka-maa-aa-ma-nus-so-fa-haa-o Alaa-in-na-hoom-ho-moos-so-fa-haa-o-wa-laa-kin-laa-yau-la-moon.
And recall when it was said to them, ‘Believe like other people have believed’. They retorted “Shall we believe like the foolish have believed?” Isn’t it that really they are the foolish but they just don’t know?

- قِيۡلَ — Qee-la — Said -(= v. passive voice; it is conveyed, declared, stated or told)
- لَ — La — To, for — (= For any item, person or thing)
- هُمۡ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl, .m., 3rd person. Refers to the self-proclaimed ‘Reformers’ mentioned in prior verse)
- اٰمِنُوۡ — Aa-may-noo – Believe (= v., pr., pl. You all believe in the Holy Qor-aan,The Islaam, and become Moslems. Have faith)
- كَ — Ka — Like (= As; identical to; resembling; similar to)
- مَاۤ — Maa — All others (= All that; whatever; whatsoever)
- اٰمَنَ — Aa-ma-n…(un) — Believed (= v., Moslems; believers in the Holy Qor-aan and Islaam)
- النَّاسُ — Naa-so — People (= Folks; mankind; nation)
- قَالُوۡا — Qaa-loo — They retorted (= v., Announced; asserted; conveyed; declared; stated informed; replied; responded; said; specified; told)
- اَ — Aa — Shall {= A question mark like ‘Are?, ‘Can?, ‘Do?, and ‘Will?)
- نُؤۡمِنُ — Noe-may-no — We believe (= v., Enter faith; follow the Holy Qor-aan, the Islaam and become Moslems)
- كَ — Ka — Like (= Identical to; resembling; similar to)
- مَاۤ — Maa — The way — (= All that; whatever; whatsoever)
- اٰمَنَ — Aa-ma-n…(us) — Believed (= v., Moslems who believe in the Holy Qor-aan and Islaam)
- السُّفَهَآءُ — So-fa-haa-o — The foolish (= n., pl., Ignorant, low-witted; retarded, silly, slow or stupid)
- اَلَاۤ — Alaa — Isn’t it (= Isn’t it a fact? The letter أ expresses a question mark. The word لَا means ‘never, no, not at all’. Joined they generate ‘a great emphasis’ which is conveyed by the words like beware, listen, pay attention and remember)
- اِنَّ — In-na — Really * (= Certainly; definitely; doubtlessly; indeed; positively; surely; truly; verily)
- هُمۡ — Hoom — Them * (= pro., pl, .m., 3rd person. Refers to the aforesaid foolish persons)
- هُمُ — Ho-mo…(os) — Them * (= pro., pl, .m., 3rd person. Refers to the aforesaid foolish persons)
- السُّفَهَآءُ — So-fa-haa-o — The foolish (= Persons who are foolish, ignorant, low-witted; retarded, silly, slow or stupid)
- وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., Connects words, phrases or clauses; also; but; additionally; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
- لٰـكِنَّ — Laa-kin..(la) — But (= However; nevertheless; yet)
- لَّا — Laa — Not at all (= Absolutely not; no; never)
- يَعۡلَمُوۡنَ — Yau-la-moon — They know (= Are aware or conscious)
* Note 002:014. Read Commentary titled “2 pronouns or 1 pro and 1 verb mean…” The phrase اِنَّهُمۡ هُمُ السُّفَهَآءُ “inna-ho-ho-moo” consists of three words.
- The first word اِنَّ (= in-na) means “certainly; definitely; doubtlessly; indeed; positively; really; surely; truly, verily.”
- The second word هُمۡ (= hoom) is a pronoun (= pl., m., addressees in 3rd person) referring to all those people.
- The third word هُمۡ (= hoom) is also a pronoun (= pl., m., addressees in 3rd person) referring to all those people.
- A phrase duplicating two pronouns like هُمۡ after another هُمۡ lays a tremendous emphasis on the person highlighted. Thus اِنَّهُمۡ هُمُ السُّفَهَآء “inna-ho-ho-moo” means ‘Surely these very people are’ – as described – ‘the Foolish’ in instant case.
