The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                            002:045

 

اَتَاۡمُرُوۡنَ النَّاسَ بِالۡبِرِّ وَتَنۡسَوۡنَ اَنۡفُسَكُمۡ وَاَنۡتُمۡ تَتۡلُوۡنَ الۡكِتٰبَ‌ؕ اَفَلَا تَعۡقِلُوۡنَ

 

Aa-tau-mo-roo-nun-naa-sa-bil-bir-ray                                                                                       Wa-tun-sao-na-un-fo-sa-koom                                                                                                       Wa-un-toom-tut-loo-nul-kay-taab                                                                                                      Aa-fa-laa-tau-qay-loo-n.

 

 Do you bid other people with the virtue                                                                        But forget yourself                                                                                                                    While surely it is you who recite the Book.                                                                      Can’t (= Don’t or Won’t) you act wisely?

 

  • اَ — Aa — Do (= Question mark like Are? Can? Have? Shell? Will?
  • تَاۡمُرُوۡنَ — Tau-mo-roon — You command (= Dictate; direct; enjoin; mandate; order; recommend)
  • النَّاسَ — Un-naa-sa — Other people (= Other folks, mankind, groups, men, nations or tribes)
  • بِ — B…(il) — With (= This word in Arabic literally means ‘with’)
  • الۡبِرِّ — Bir-ray — The virtue (= Good character; noble actions; good deeds; piety;
    performance of good deeds; righteousness; virtuous conduct in all acts of obedience)
  • وَ — Wa — But (= Conj., Connects words, phrases or clauses; also; and; additionally; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • تَنۡسَوۡنَ — Tun-sao-na — You forget (= Become oblivious; ignore; neglect)
  • اَنۡفُسَ — Un-fo-sa — Selves (= pl., Individuals’ hearts, minds or souls; persons; practice the teaching you enjoin on others)
  • کُمۡ — Koom — Your (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person. You men.  Generally this way the Holy Qor-aan addresses both men and women)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., Connects words, phrases or clauses. See above)
  • اَنۡ — Un — Surely  (= Absolutely; certainly; definitely; doubtlessly; in all seriousness; indeed; positively; really; truly; verily)
  • تُمۡ — Toom — You all (= pl., m., 2nd person. You men.  Generally this way the Holy Qor-aan addresses both men and women)
  • تَتۡلُوۡنَ — Tut-loo-n..(l) — Recite (= v. Coach, educate and share with each other; read; study; teach.   See Commentary “2 pronouns or 1 pro and 1 verb mean  )
  • الۡكِتٰبَ‌ — Kay-taa-ba — The Book (= 1. Authentic written material in black & white.
    2. Code; Direction; Divine Command / Regulations; Holy direction; scripture; spiritual code; Testament.   3. Mandated; ordered; penned down; prescribed; preserved; recorded; written down; written records.   4. Testament that holds good and operative eternally. 5. In instant case the reference is to Torah)
  • اَ — Aa — Do (= Question mark like Are? Can? Have? Shell? Will?)
  • فَ — Fa — Then (= Consequently; as a result; so; thereafter; therefore; yet)
  • لَا — Laa — No, not (= Absolute denial; never; not at all; total negation)
  • تَعۡقِلُوۡنَ — Tau-qay-loo-n — Act wisely (= v., Be smart; exercise understanding; grow in understanding; understand; use brain; use intelligence; utilize the gift of intelligence. a/t/a abstain from evil; have you no sense)
