The Holy Qor-aan 002:052
وَاِذۡ وٰعَدۡنَا مُوۡسٰٓى اَرۡبَعِيۡنَ لَيۡلَةً ثُمَّ اتَّخَذۡتُمُ الۡعِجۡلَ مِنۡۢ بَعۡدِهٖ وَاَنۡـتُمۡ ظٰلِمُوۡنَ
Wa-iz-waa-ud-naa-moo-saa-ur-ba-ee-na-lai-la-ton–thoom-mut-ta-khuz-to-mool-ij-la-min-bau-day-he-wa-un-toom-zaa-lay-moo-n.
And when We promised Moses forty nights. Then you picked the calf to worship after him. And you surely were or became the wrongdoers.
- وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., Connects words, phrases or clauses; also; but; additionally; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
- اِذۡ — Iz — When (= Behold; call to mind, recall; remember or think of the
time, event, occasion, opportunity or time)
- وٰعَدۡ — Waa-ud — Promised (= Appointed; communed; fixed the period; made an appointment; pledged; set up a covenant)
- نَآ –Naa — We (= pro., pl., 1st person. Us. Used with God’s name it reflects the authoritative way a higher-up talks to a subordinate)
- مُوۡسٰى — Moo-sa — Moses (= The name of a Messenger / Prophet of Allah)
- اَرۡبَعِيۡنَ — Ur-ba-ee-na — Forty (= Numerical total of 1+39; term of 40 nights)
- لَيۡلَةً — Lai-la-ton — Nights * (= Absence of sun-light; the opposite of the sunlit day; the period of darkness between sun-set and dawn next day)
