The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                    002:258

                                                                                             

وَظَلَّلۡنَا عَلَيۡکُمُ الۡغَمَامَ وَاَنۡزَلۡنَا عَلَيۡكُمُ الۡمَنَّ وَالسَّلۡوٰى‌ؕ كُلُوۡا مِنۡ طَيِّبٰتِ مَا رَزَقۡنٰكُمۡ‌ؕ وَمَا ظَلَمُوۡنَا وَلٰـكِنۡ كَانُوۡآ اَنۡفُسَهُمۡ يَظۡلِمُوۡنَ‏

 

Wa  zaul-laul  naa  alai  ko-mo  ol-gha-maa-ma
Wa  un-zaul  naa  alai  ko-mo  ol-mun-na  wa  us-sal-waa
Ko-loo  min  toy-yay-baa-tay  maa  ra-zauq  naa  koom
Wa  maa  za-la-moo  naa                                                                                                                      Wa  laa-kin  kaa-noo  un-fo-sa  hoom  yuz-lay-moo-n

 

And We brought over you the cover of clouds.
And We lowered on you the Manna and the Salwa.
Eat from the clean foods We provided you.
And We did not do a wrong                                                                                                    But they have been doing wrong to themselves.

  • الۡغَمَامَ — Gha-maa-ma — Clouds (= A visible body of fine water droplets or ice particles in the earth’s atmosphere; white clouds)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., Connects words, phrases or clauses; also; but; additionally; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • اَنۡزَلۡ — Un-zul — Lowered (= v., 1. Landed; poured or sent down; showered. 2. Inspired; revealed. 3. Delivered; furnished; provided; sent; supplied)

  • الۡمَنَّ — Munna — Manna (= Food from vegetable group; honey; sweet gum; food that one finds without much difficulty or trouble)

  • السَّلۡوٰى‌ — Sul-waa — Salwa (= Food from bird-meat from the likes of quails and sparrows)
  • كُلُوۡا — Ko-loo — You all eat (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Chomp; consume; devour; feast upon; gobble; gorge; gulp; have; munch; partake; scoff; swallow)
  • مِنۡ — Min — From (= Among, from or out of a class, category, count or kind. Among, from or out of several people or things)
  • طَيِّبٰتِ — Toy-yay-baa-tay — Clean foods (= n., pl., The prior operative word كُلُوۡا means eat. Thus the context narrows the meanings of this word to only foods that are (1) appropriate, clean, good, holy, lawful, pious  and pure, (2) hygienic, proper, right, sanitary, spotless, sterile, unsoiled and wholesome, (3) pleasing in taste with no blemish defect or other impropriety like being rotten or spoiled and (4) nourishing and conducive to physical, moral and spiritual health even when not expressly prohibited by the Sha-re-ah.   • مَاۤ — Maa — All (= 1. All that; what; whatever; whatsoever. 2. Any time; when; whenever)
  • رَزَقۡ — Ra-zuq — Provided (= v., past., s., 1st person., Bestowed; delivered; donated; furnished; gave gifted; granted; supplied)
  • نَآ — Naa — We  (= pro., pl., 1st person. Us. Used with God’s name it reflects the authoritative way a higher-up talks to a subordinate)
  •  كُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person.  You.   Addressees are Israelites)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., Connects words, phrases or clauses; also; but; additionally; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — Not at all (= Absolutely not; no; never)
  • ظَلَمُوۡ — Za-la-moo — Wronged (= v., Did injustice; harmed; shorted; transgressed; treated unjustly or improperly)
  • نَآ — Naa — We (= pro., pl., 1st person.  Us.  Used with God’s name it reflects the authoritative way a higher-up talks to a subordinate)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., Connects words, phrases or clauses; also; but; additionally; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • لٰـكِنۡ — Laa-kin — But (= However; instead; nevertheless; yet)
  • كَانُوۡا — Kaa-noo — Had been (= v., pl., 3rd person. Conveys continuation; ‘all those’ folks ‘used to.’ This verb and its 14 grammatical variations indicate an act’s continuity from the past to the present and leading into the future – such as ‘continued doing’ or ‘went on doing’)
  • اَنۡفُسَ — Un-fo-sa — Selves (= pl., Individuals’ hearts, minds or souls; persons)
  • ھُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pl., m., 3rd person.   They.   Addressees are Israelites)
  • يَظۡلِمُوۡنَ‏ — Yauz-lay-moo-n — Doing wrong (= v., pre., pl., 3rd person. Acting unjustly; doing injustice; harming, maltreating or mistreating people; shorting; transgressing; violating)
