The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                    002:059

وَاِذۡ قُلۡنَا ادۡخُلُوۡا هٰذِهِ الۡقَرۡيَةَ فَکُلُوۡا مِنۡهَا حَيۡثُ شِئۡتُمۡ رَغَدًا وَّادۡخُلُوا الۡبَابَ سُجَّدًا وَّقُوۡلُوۡا حِطَّةٌ نَّغۡفِرۡ لَـكُمۡ خَطٰيٰكُمۡ‌ؕ وَسَنَزِيۡدُ الۡمُحۡسِنِيۡنَ

Wa-iz-qool-nud-kho-loo-haa-zay-hil-qur-ya-ta
Fa-ko-loo-min-haa-hai-tho-shae-toom-ra-gha-done
Wud-kho-lool-baa-ba-sooj-ja-done
Wa-quoo-loo-hit-ta-toon
Nugh-fir-la-koom-kha-taa-yaa-koom
Wa-sa-na-zee-dool-moh-say-nee-n.

And call to mind when we said, “Enter this town.
Then eat from there wherever you like, in plenty
And enter the gate submissively
And say, ‘Forgive’
We will forgive you your mistakes
And We soon give more to the righteous.”

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., Connects words, phrases or clauses; also; but; additionally; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • اِذۡ — Iz — When (= Behold; call to mind, recall; remember or think of the time, event, occasion, opportunity or time)
  • قُلۡ — Qool — Said (= v., past., s.,  Announced; broadcast; conveyed; stated; commanded; directed; elaborated; informed; ordered; instructed; mandated; specified; told)
  • نَآ — Naa … (ud) — We (= pro, pl., 1st person. Us. Used with God’s name it reflects the authoritative way a higher-up talks to a subordinate)
  • ادۡخُلُوۡا — Ud-kho-loo — Enter (= Go in; move in; proceed to; walk in )
  • هٰذِهِ — Haa-zay-h(il) — This (= Present right here; what is in front of you)
  • الۡقَرۡيَةَ — Qur-ya-ta –Town (= City; colony; population center; township; village.
    Several commentators including A Yusuf Ali have pinpointed this to be the City of Jerusalem)
  • فَ — Fa — Then (= Consequently; as a result; so; thereafter; therefore; yet)
  • كُلُوۡا — Ko-loo — Eat (= Consume; enjoy; feast upon; partake)
  • مِنۡ — Min — From (= Among, from or out of a class, category, count or kind Among, from or out of several persons or things)
  • هَا — Haa — It (= pro., s., f., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid town)
  • حَيۡثُ — Hai-tho — Wherever (= Anywhere; what; whatever)
  • شِئ — Shae — Like (= Choose; desire; want; will; wish; delights; pleases)
  • تُمۡ — Toom — You (= pl., m., 2nd person. You.  Addressees are Israelites)
  • رَغَدًا — Ra-gha-done — In plenty (= As much as; abundantly; bountifully; freely; plenteously; to hearts’ content)
  • وَ — Wa… (ud) — And (= Conj., Connects words, phrases or clauses; also; but; additionally; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • ادۡخُلُوۡا — Ud-kho-loo..(l) — Enter (= Go in; move in; proceed to; walk in)
  • الۡبَابَ — Baa-ba — The gate  (= Door; entrance; entry way)
  • سُجَّدًا — Sooj-ja-done — Submissively (= Bowing and prostrating. Humbly. Lowly. Obediently. Reverently. Not arrogantly or boastfully. With humility)
  • وَّ — Wa — And (= Conj., Connects words, phrases or clauses; also; but; additionally; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • قُوۡلُوۡا — Qoo-loo — You say (= 1. Announce; convey; inform; specify; state; submit; tell.  2. Ask; beseech; invoke; pray; request; supplicate)
  • حِطَّةٌ — Hit-ta-toon — Forgive (= Beg leniency and repentance; please excuse and lighten our burden; petition for forgiveness)
  • نَّغۡفِرۡ — Nugh-fir — We’ll forgive (= Excuse; pardon; omit the penalty for wrongs done)
  • لَ — La — For (= For the benefit, purpose or reason)
  • کُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person. You. Addressees are Israelites)
  • خَطٰيٰ — Kha-taa-yaa — Mistakes (= All kinds of big and small errors, faults, omissions and commissions, sins and wrongs)
  • کُمۡ — Koom –Your  (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person. You. Addressees are Israelites)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., Connects words, phrases or clauses; also; but; additionally; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • سَ — Sa — Soon (= In near term; in near future; in a short while; swiftly)
  • نَزِيۡدُ — Na-zee-do(l) — Give more (= v., Add, increase, multiply or provide bigger rewards; bestow abundance; grant plenty of)
  • الۡمُحۡسِنِيۡنَ — Moh-say-nee-n — Righteous (= Do-gooder; pious; right-doers. Those who pursue the correct course, level line, proper path, right road and the worshiping ways)
