The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                               002:064

.

وَاِذۡ اَخَذۡنَا مِيۡثَاقَكُمۡ وَرَفَعۡنَا فَوۡقَكُمُ الطُّوۡرَؕ خُذُوۡا مَآ اٰتَيۡنٰكُمۡ بِقُوَّةٍ وَّ اذۡكُرُوۡا مَا فِيۡهِ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَتَّقُوۡنَ‏

Wa-iz-aa-khuz-naa-me-thaa-qa-koom
Wa-ra-fau-naa-fao-qa-ko-moot-toor
Kho-zoo-maa-aa-tai-naa-koom-bay-qoow-wa-tin
Wuz-ko-roo-maa-fee-hay-la-ul-la-koom-tut-ta-qoo-n.

And call to mind when We took your pledge
And raised above you the mountain (= Brought you to the foothills and said)
“Hold with strength what We give you.
And remember all that is in it so that you may become pious.”

{The first 20 words of this verse are the same as in 002:094}

  • وَ — Wa — And * (= Conj., Connects words, phrases or clauses; also; but; additionally; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • اِذۡ — Iz — When (= Behold; call to mind, recall; remember or think of the time, event, occasion, opportunity or time)
  • اَخَذۡ — Aa-khuz — Took (= Caught; drew; grabbed; held; obtained; received; secured; seized)
  • نَآ — Naa — We (= pro., pl., m & f., 1st person. Used with God’s name it is the authoritative way a higher-up talks to a subordinate)
  • مِيۡثَاقَ –Me-thaa-qa — Pledge (= n., An arrangement, assurance, promise or undertaking made unilaterally (by-one-side) vouching that its maker will always honor it. For an arrangement or agreement between 2-or-more-parties, see Note 003:188)
  • كُمۡ — Koom- You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person.  You.  The Holy Qor-aan states this way when addressing both men and women jointly Here the reference is to the Israelites بَنِىۡٓ اِسۡرَآءِيۡلَ)
  • وَ  — Wa  — And (= Conj., Links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ above)
  • رَفَع — Ra-fau — Raised (= Elated; elevated; heightened; lifted; towered above)
  • نَآ — Naa — We (= pro., pl., m & f., 1st person. Used with God’s name it is the authoritative way a higher-up talks to a subordinate)
  • فَوۡقَ — Fao-qa — Above (= Higher then; over; overhead)
  • كُمۡ — Ko…m(oot) — You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person.   You.  The Holy Qor-aan states this way when addressing both men and women jointly Here the reference is to the Israelites بَنِىۡٓ اِسۡرَآءِيۡلَ)
  • الطُّوۡرَ –Toor — Mountain (= Hill; higher ground; mound; mount. Many translators have referred the word to point to the Towering Height and/or/of Mount Sinai)
  • خُذُوۡا — Kho-zoo — Hold (= 1. Catch; draw; grab; obtain; receive; secure; seize; take. 2. Absorb; comprehend; grasp; understand)
  • مَآ — Maa — What (= All that; whatever; whatsoever)
  • اٰتَيۡ — Aa-tai — Give (= Award; bestow; confer; deliver; grant)
  • نَآ — Naa — We  (= pro., pl., m & f., 1st person. Used with God’s name it is the authoritative way a higher-up talks to a subordinate)
  • كُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person.   You.   The Holy Qor-aan states this way when addressing both men and women jointly Here the reference is to the Israelites بَنِىۡٓ اِسۡرَآءِيۡلَ)
  • بِ — Bay — With (= Literal translation and best sense conveyed is ‘with’)
  • قُوَّةٍ — Qoow-wa-tin — Strength (= Earnestness; firmly; firmness; force; might; power;  strongly; with willing hearts) 
  • وَ  — Wa (..uz) * — And (= Conj., Connects words, phrases or clauses; also; but; additionally; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • اذۡكُرُوۡا — Uzko-roo — Remember (= v., pl., 1. Attend to; bear in mind; keep in mind; pay attention. 2. Beseech; pray; praise. 3. Contemplate; ponder; reflect over; recall; think of)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — All that (= What; whatever; whatsoever. Refers to guidance, message, precepts and teachings given to them)
  • فِىۡ — Fee — In (= 1. Contained in or amidst a duration, event, time, place, period, thing or situation; inside 2. Concerning; for the sake of;’ in reference to; pursuant to; regarding relative to)
  • هِ — Hay — It (= s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the Holy Scriptures)
  • لَعَلَّ — La-ul-la — So that (= Gave chance; haply; hopefully; possibly; wishing a result to be)
  • كُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person.  You.   The Holy Qor-aan states this way when addressing both men and women jointly Here the reference is to the Israelites بَنِىۡٓ اِسۡرَآءِيۡلَ)
  • تَتَّقُوۡنَ — Tut-ta-qoo-n — Become pious (= v., Avoid angering Allah.   Act piously and righteously.   Become God-fearing and righteous.   Clean inner self.   Do duty to God.   Guard against or ward off evil’. See 002:003)
