The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                     002:105

 

يٰٓاَيُّهَا الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا لَا تَقُوۡلُوۡا رَاعِنَا وَ قُوۡلُوا انۡظُرۡنَا وَاسۡمَعُوۡا ‌ؕ وَلِلۡڪٰفِرِيۡنَ عَذَابٌ اَلِيۡمٌ

 

Yaa-auy-yo-hul-la-zee-na-aa-ma-noo                                                                                            Laa-ta-qoo-loo-raa-aiy-naa                                                                                                            Wa-qoo-loon-zoor-naa-wus-ma-oo                                                                                                 Wa-lil-kaa-fay-ree-na-azaa-boon-alee-m.

 

Listen, you all who have believed!                                                                                         Don’t say an ambiguity.                                                                                                        Say, “Look at us with kindness.” And then listen and comply.                                And in store for the disbelievers is a painful punishment.

 

The Holy Qor-aan has used the Phrase Yaa-auy-yo-hul-la-zee-na-aa-ma-noo many times

  • يٰۤ — Yaa — Listen (= Be attentive; hearken; pay attention; O!)
  • اَيُّهَا — Auy-yo-ha(ul) — You all (= All addressees; entire audience; whole lot of listeners)
  • ٱلَّذِينَ — Ul-la-zee-na — Those who (= pl., m, 3rd person. Those articles, things or persons
  • اٰمَنُوۡۤ — Aa-ma-noo — Have believed (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Believed in the Holy Qor-aan and became Moslems; entered the Faith of Islam. Also, have accepted, acknowledged, admitted, affirmed, approved, concurred, confirmed, corroborated, embraced, evidenced, proved, testified or witnessed their entry in Iss-laam. Our Commentary Phrase Ya-ayyo-hulla… shows several places where the Holy Qor-aan has directed those who have believed with a Command or Prohibition. Our Commentary Islam-101 and Note 002:026c show how this phrase has been translated incorrectly as (a) ‘O ye who believe’ and ‘O you believe’ in the present tense and (b) ‘Believers’ as a noun. See also our Commentary Believe and Disbelieve that floodlight various other aspects in which the Holy Qor-aan has used this word)
  • لَا — Laa — Don’t (= Never; not at all; Total denial without exception)
  • تَقُوۡلُوۡا — Ta-qoo-loo — You say (= Ask; beseech; invoke; pray; request; submit; supplicate)
  • رَاعِ — Raa-aiy — An ambiguity (= 1.  Listen to us.    2. Take care of us like a shepherd does to his flock.     3. We have regard for you; you show regard for us.    4. An ambiguous derogatory term Jews used for the Holy Prophet s.a.w and Moslems were stopped. This matter is also repeated in verse 004:047)
  • نَآ — Naa –Us (= pro., pl., m & f., 1st person. We / us)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses.  See وَ  above)
  • قُوۡلُوۡا — Qoo-loo…(n) — Say (= Assert; ask; call; challenge; demand;; invoke; utter0

                    The action in the next word in verses 002:105 and 004:047 relates                                              to the same incident and implied taking that with compassion,                       forgiveness, kindness, leniency and understanding

  • انۡظُرۡ — Un-zoor — You look (= v., pres., s., 2nd person. Check out; find; get to view;  look at; look out; observe; see; take notice; understand; view; watch for)
  • نَآ — Naa — Us (= pro., pl., m & f., 1st person. We or us)
  • وَ — Wa…(us) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • اسۡمَعُوۡا — Us-ma-oo — Listen (= v., pres., 2nd person. Be good listeners; hear; hearken. Listen attentively and then comply with earnestness)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See the above)
  • لِلۡ — L…(il) — For (= Concerning. Regarding. Relative to. With regard to)
  • الۡكٰفِرِيۡنَ — Kaa-fay-ree-na — Disbelievers (= pl., 1.Deniers who refuse or reject the Faith or belief in Allah, the Holy Qor-aan and Islaam to become Moslem.    2. Faithless; heretic; infidel; non-believers; rejecters of, resistors to or unbelievers in God.    3. Ungrateful who fail to appreciate, thank for, use and utilize God-given gifts, abilities, blessings, talents, capabilities, capacities or opportunities afforded by abusing or misusing them)
  • عَذَابٌ —  Azaa-boon — Punishment (= Chastisement; doom; penalty; scourge; torment; torture)
  • اَلِيۡمٌ — Alee-m — Painful (= Grievous; severe; stern; terrible)
