The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                               002:136

 

وَقَالُوۡا کُوۡنُوۡا هُوۡدًا اَوۡ نَصٰرٰى تَهۡتَدُوۡا ‌ؕ قُلۡ بَلۡ مِلَّةَ اِبۡرٰهٖمَ حَنِيۡفًا ‌ؕ وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ الۡمُشۡرِكِيۡنَ‏

 

Wa-qaa-loo-koo-noo-hoo-dun-auo-na-sa-raa-tuh-ta-do                                                    Qool-bul-mil-la-ta-ib-raa-he-ma-ha-nee-faa                                                                                   Wa-maa-kaa-na-may-nul-moosh-ray-keen

 

And they said, “Become a Jew or Christian; you will be led right.”                         You say, “Really the nation of Abraham, the Righteous.”                                         And he was not among the idolaters.

 

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • قَا لُوۡا — Qaa-loo — They said (= v., past, pl., m; 3rd person. Argued, boasted, challenged, claimed, contended, contested, conveyed, declared, demanded, explained, informed, insisted, maintained, professed, retorted, stated, told, warned or asserted)
  • کُوۡنُوۡا — Koo-noo — Become (= Be. Conveys a command or order to happen, materialize, occur, take place or take shape)
  • هُوۡدًا — Hoo-dun — A Jew (= Followers of Moses; children of Israel; Israelite)
  • اَوۡ — Auo — Or (= Alternatively; in substitution)
  • نَصٰرٰى‌ — Na-saa-raa — Christian (= Followers of Jesus Christ)
  • تَهۡتَدُوۡا — Tuh-ta-doo — You led right (=Put on proper path. Rightly guided. Given the correct course.   Granted salvation.   Shown the right road)
  • قُلۡ — Qool — You say (= Admonish; assert; communicate; See above the word قَا لُوۡا and Commentary titled as’ You Say’ means …)
  • بَلۡ — Bul — Really (= Aye; nay; but; however; instead; in truth; of course; on
    the contrary; nevertheless; rather; the fact is; truthfully; verily; yea; yes indeed)

(Words from here till the end of the verse are also repeated in verse 003:096)

  • مِلَّةَ — Mil-la-ta — Nation (= n. Followers; lifestyle; sure-footed and well-dug way of Life.
  • اِبۡرٰهٖمَ — Ib-raa-he-ma — Abraham (= The name of a Messenger / Prophet of Allah)
  • حَنِيۡفًا — Ha-nee-fa — Righteous (= Forever inclined towards and always bent towards the Almighty Allah in worshiping Him.   Upright.   Worshiper of the One and the Only One God)

The next five (5) words are repeated in verses 002:136. 003:068 and 003:096

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — Never (= Absolutely not; no; not at all)
  • كَانَ — Kaa-na — Had been (= v., Conveys continuation from the past to the present to the future – like ‘continued doing’ or ‘went on doing’)
  • مِنَ — May-n…(ul) — Among (= From the class, category, count, kind, persons or out of)
  • الۡمُشۡرِكِيۡنَ — Moosh-ray-keen — The idolaters (= n., m., pl., Those who set up equals, partners, peers etc.,  with the Almighty God. Men who ascribe or associate and worship imaginary gods with the Almighty God. Unbelieving pagan men. See Note 004:037)
