The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                        002:170

 

اِنَّمَا يَاۡمُرُكُمۡ بِالسُّوۡٓءِ وَالۡفَحۡشَآءِ وَاَنۡ تَقُوۡلُوۡا عَلَى اللّٰهِ مَا لَا تَعۡلَمُوۡنَ

 

In-na-maa-yau-mo-ro-koom-bis-soo-aiy-wul-fauh-shaa-aiy                                                 Wa-un-ta-qoo-loo-alul-laa-hay-maa-laa-tau-la-moon.

 

He certainly incites you with the doing of evil                                                                 And the lewdness and that you assert about Allah what you do not know.

 

  • اِنَّ — In-na — Certainly (= Absolutely; definitely; doubtlessly; earnestly; indeed; positively; really; seriously; surely; truly; verily)
  • مَا — Maa — All that (= What; whatever; whichever way; any which way)
  • يَاۡمُرُ — Yau-mo-ro — He incites (= v., pres., s., 3rd person. Here the word describes Satan’s actions towards man and can be translated as he bids, enjoins, exhorts, directs, incites, instructs, moves, motivates, prompts, spurs, spurts, tempts or urges deviously, secretly, sneakily and underhandedly.  For translations of this word when used to describe man’s actions towards fellow human beings and God’s actions towards man, see our commentary titled as the ‘Commandments and Prohibitions’)
  • ڪُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person.   You.   The Holy Qor-aan and other scriptures state that way when they address both men and women)
  • بِ — B…(iss) — With (= The Arabic word بِ literally means ‘with’ in English)
  • السُّوۡٓءِ — Soo-aiy — Evil (= n., s., Crime; cruelty; error; harm; illegality, injury; misdeed, mistake; wickedness; wrong.  Of worst kind.  Something bad, foul, horrible, grievous, improper, intentional, indecent, poor, repulsive, severe, terrible, unacceptable, undesirable, unpleasant or vicious consequence, incident, occurrence, result, thing.  Worst possible.  Sometimes used for a single unintended wrong  committed accidentally or forgetfully)
  • وَ — Wa…(ul) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • الۡفَحۡشَآءِ — Fauh-shaa-aiy — Lewdness (= n., pl., Abominations.  Indecencies.  Illegalities. Inherently bad, evil, foul, immoral, improper, lewd, obscene, repulsive, shameful,  sinful or unseemly acts, conducts, deeds, practices or things. Violations.  Wicked ways. A/t/a niggardliness or tenaciousness)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • اَنۡ — Un — That (= Since; so that; for the purpose)
  • تَقُوۡلُوۡا — Ta-qoo-loo — You assert (= v., pr., s., m, in 2nd person  Falsely allege, announce, call, broadcast, convey, declare, elaborate, expound, preach profess, say, specify, speak, state or tell)
  • عَلٰى — Ala…(ul) — About (= 1. Against; for; on; over; upon. 2. Concerning, regarding or relative to)
  • اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
  • مَا — Maa — What (=All that; whatever; whatsoever)
  • لَا — Laa — Not (= Absolute denial; never; not at all; total negation)
  • تَعۡلَمُوۡنَ — Tau-la-moon — You know (= v., pr., s., m, in 2nd person are aware. Educated; informed; in the know of; knowingly; knowledgeable)
