The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                             002:196

 

وَاَنۡفِقُوۡا فِىۡ سَبِيۡلِ اللّٰهِ وَلَا تُلۡقُوۡا بِاَيۡدِيۡكُمۡ اِلَى التَّهۡلُكَةِۖ ۛۚ وَاَحۡسِنُوۡاۛۚ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ يُحِبُّ الۡمُحۡسِنِيۡنَ

 

Wa-un-fay-qoo-fee-sa-bee-lil-laa-hay                                                                                            Wa-laa-tool-qoo-bay-aiy-day-ya-koom-elut-tuh-la-ka-tay                                                          Wa-ah-say-noo–in-nul-laa-ha-yo-hib-bool-moh-say-nee-n.

 

And you spend in the cause of Allah.                                                                               And do not throw yourself to ruin with your own hands.                                        And do good.  Most certainly Allah loves the do-gooders.

 

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • اَنۡفِقُوۡا — Un-fay-qoo — You spend (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person.  Contribute; donate; give in charity. Expend, lay, put or use for noble purposes.  Help those in need.  Invest in good causes.  Practice giving alms.   Spend your belongings, substance and wealth in the causes of Allah.  See the Note below)
  • فِىۡ  — Fee — In (= In; concerning; regarding; in reference; relative to. Also, amidst, during or inside a time, place or event)
  • سَبِيۡلِ — Sa-bee-l … (il) — Cause (= n., s., Action; alternative; cause, course; escape; line;  means; measure; method; path; pretext; remedy; road; way. See Note 004:089   & Phrase fee-sa-be-lil-laa-hay)
  • اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. Save وَ  above)
  • لَا — Laa — Do not (= Absolutely not; never; no; not all)
  • تُلۡقُوۡا — Tool-qoo — Throw (= v., pres., pl., 2nd personCast; lower down to; push; put down)
  • بِ — Bay — With (= The Arabic word  بِ  literally means ‘with’ in English
  • اَيۡدِيۡ — Aiy-dee — Both hands (= Of your accord; with your own actions)
  • كُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person., You . The Holy Qor-aan states that way when addressing men and women jointly)
  • اِلٰٓى — Ela…(ut) —  To (= 1. In the direction of; towards. 2. For; until; till)
  • التَّهۡلُكَةِ — Tuh-lo-ka-tay — Ruin (= Annihilation; destruction; perdition)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. Save وَ  above)
  • اَحۡسِنُوۡا — Ah-say–noo — Do good (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Be benevolent, charitable, kind, lovely and nice.  Do deeds which are good. Pursue pretty practices)
  • إِنَّ — In-n..(ul) — Most certainly (= Absolutely; certainly; definitely; indeed; positively; surely;  truly; verily)
  • ٱللَّهَ — Laa-ha — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
  • يُحِبُّ — Yo-hib-bo…(ol) —  Loves (= v., pres., s., 1st person. Adores; appreciates;  cherishes; craves for the attention of; likes)
  • الۡمُحۡسِنِيۡنَ — Moh-say-nee-n — Do-gooders (= n., pl., Who act, do and practice to be kind, caring, considerate, charitable, good, helpful, humane without seeking any consideration, reciprocation, quid pro quo or something for something. Altruistic. Benevolent. Philanthropic. Righteous. Self-sacrificing. Unselfish. Some authors narrowed the word to mean a Moslem)

*Note 002:178.    The divine mandate is to take care of some under-privileged segments of the society.    The fortunate who have utilized time, money and energy to produce results are told to spread the word.    Some have-nots  ذَوِى الۡقُرۡبٰى وَالۡيَتٰمٰى وَالۡمَسٰكِيۡنَ وَابۡنَ السَّبِيۡل  have been made the responsibility of those who have been blessed with aforesaid means.   The rich are mandated to share some of their blessings with the less fortunate.    In its verses including the following the Holy Qor-aan has named four such ways of sharing, i.e., Causes of God, Qur-zay-Husna, Suq-qa or Zakaat

002:084 enumerates them as a part of the Covenant assigned to the Children of Israel.

002:178 counts them as the virtues that man must practice even thousands years later.

002:216 states them as the duties of all men who are the residents of one human village.

Chapter 92 lays out a plan for economic success all can climb – like a ladder, step by step.

Individually each above-mentioned act produces a lot of good.   Collectively they all are destined to uplift the whole society.   Islaam is the one-word that reflects all these virtues of Humanism.
