002:243

The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                   002: 243

كَذَٲلِكَ يُبَيِّنُ ٱللَّهُ لَڪُمۡ ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَعۡقِلُونَ

Ka-zaa-lay-ka-yo-buy-ye-nool-laa-ho-la-koom                                                                               Aa-yaa-tay-hee-la-ul-la-koom-tau-qay-loo-n.

Like this is how Allah makes clear to you                                                                          His revelations so that you behave wisely.

  • كَذٰلِكِ — Ka-zaa-lay-ka — Like this (= Combines two words. كَ means ‘example, like, identical resembling, similar.’   ذٰلِكَ   means ‘all this right in here and refers to an aforesaid event, fact, person or statement.    The combination means ‘even so’, ‘so it will be’, ‘such is the way, ‘that is how’, ‘the same way’, ‘this way’, ‘thus’)
  • يُبَيِّنُ — Yo-buy-yay-no(ol) — Explains (= Clarifies; elaborates; espouses; expounds; informs;  makes things crystal clear, obvious, plain and known well; sets limits for permissible activity)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
  • لَ — La — For (=1. For the attention, benefit, convenience, determination object, general convenience or purpose.  2. Belonging to, concerning, regarding; relative to. or intended for)
  • کُمۡ — Koom — You     *       (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person.   You.   The Holy Qor-aan states this way when addressing both men and women jointly)
  • ءَايَـٰتِ — Aa-yaa-tay — Signs (= n., pl of … An argument, corroboration, indication, insinuation, pointer, portent, sign, suggestion, symbol or token. See Note 002:074)
  • هٖ  — Hee — His (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the Almighty God)
  • لَعَلَّ — La-ul-la — So that (= Gave chance; haply; hopefully; perchance; possibly;  hope and wish that it becomes; wishing a result to be)
  • کُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person. You. The Holy Qor-aan states this way when addressing both men and women jointly)
  • تَعۡقِلُونَ  — Tau-qay-loon — You act wisely  (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Act intelligently, sensibly and smartly; understandSee Note 002:171.

* Note 002:243.  A simple straightforward translation by avoiding all paraphrasing is given on this site.    For example the last clause (This is how Allah makes His revelations clear to you so that you act wisely and reflect) has used the pronoun ‘koom’ twice and underscored the emphasis on ‘you’ as the addressee.    Paraphrasing this sentence by using ‘you’ only once as the English language would ordinarily do has been avoided here intentionally.    Other examples of this phenomenon include 002:220, 002:222, 002:267, 024:059, 024:060.
