Wa-ma-tha-lool-la-zee-na-yoon-fay-qoo-na                                                                                Um-waa-la-ho-moob-tay-ghaa-aa-mur-dzaa-til-laa-hay                                                          Wa-tuth-be-ton-min-un-fo-say-him                                                                                                Ka-ma-tha-lay-jun-na-tin-bay-rub-wa-tin.                                                                               Asaa-ba-haa-waa-bay-loon-fa-aa-tut-dzay-fai-nay                                                                    Fa-in-lum-yo-sib-haa-waa-bay-loon-fa-tul-loon.                                                                          Wul-laa-ho-bay-maa-tau-ma-loo-na-ba-see-r.

The example of those who spend                                                                                         Their assets to seek pleasure of Allah                                                                                  And to strengthen their own hearts                                                                                Have the likeness of (=are like) a garden with a height.                                              Heavy rain struck it. So its harvest came twice as much.                                              But if no heavy rain reaches it, then light rain suffices.                                              And by God Allah is the Seer with all you do.

* 002:266.  Some translations of this verse reflect how apparently trivial differences can magnify into huge issues. The translation of the original text is ‘garden on or with a height.’

A translation ‘Garden situated on a highly fertile land’ obviously missed the word  بِ  between the garden and height.  The repercussions of using the phrase of a highly fertile land precipitated some one-half of a century later.

Ahmadis Moslems in 1947 migrated from India to Pakistan.  They bought a barren tract of water-less salinity-rich land and settled on it. They named it  رَبۡوَةٍ   (Rabwah] and that in about 50 years grew into a sizeable city. Pakistani Legislators did not like Ahmadies using the name of Rabwah [رَبۡوَةٍ with the alleged and assumed meanings of a highly fertile land] for the city Ahmadies had built from a scratch. So the Legislator used legislative power to legislatively change the name of the city from  رَبۡوَةٍ to Chenab Nagar.

It is not known how many of the Pakistani Legislators actually knew the Arabic enough to even know the difference between  رَبۡوَةٍ جَنَّةٍۢ  and جَنَّةٍۢ بِرَبۡوَةٍ.  But they could not have felt so aggressively offended if their Mullah community had not infuriated them by mistranslating the original text with — instead of without — the word  بِ  between the garden and the height.
