.

وَمُصَدِّقًا لِّمَا بَيۡنَ يَدَىَّ مِنَ التَّوۡرٰٮةِ وَلِاُحِلَّ لَـكُمۡ بَعۡضَ الَّذِىۡ حُرِّمَ عَلَيۡكُمۡ‌ وَجِئۡتُكُمۡ بِاٰيَةٍ مِّنۡ رَّبِّكُمۡ – فَاتَّقُوۡا اللّٰهَ وَاَطِيۡعُوۡنِ

 

Wa  mo-sud-day-qun  lay-maa  bai-na  ya-duy-ya  may-na  ut-tao-raa-tay                          Wa  lay  o-hil-la  la  koom  bau-dza  ul-la-ze  hoor-ray-ma  alai  koom                                    Wa  jaye-to  koom  bay  aa-ya-tin  mir  rub-bay koom                                                                 Fa  ut-ta-qool  laa-ha  wa  aa-tee-oon

 

And an attester for what was before me from the Torah                                              And allowed for you is some of that which was prohibited upon you.                    And I have come to you with a sign from your God                                                        So do your duty to Allah and follow me.

 

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)

  • مُصَدِّ قً۬ا — Mo-sud-day-qun — An attester (= n., A person or thing that approves, affirms, confirms or supports as an approver, back-bencher, bottle-holder, testator, verifier or witness)
  • لِّ — Lay — For (= For the benefit; with the purpose, reason or object of. Also, concerning, regarding, relative to)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — What (= All that; whatever; whatsoever; which; whichever)
  • بَيۡنَ — Bai-na — Between (= Ahead of. Among. Between. In front of)
  • يَدَىَّ — Ya-duy-ya — My hands (= The word  بَيۡنَ  means ‘Between or betwixt’ and  يَدَىَّ  means ‘my both hands’. Thus the whole phrase means  ‘ahead of me, facing me or in front of me; people  of their own time and generation who were present at that time and witnessed; contemporaries)
  • مِنَ — May-na … (ut) — From (= From the class, category, count, kind, persons or out of)
  • التَّوۡرٰٮةِ — Tao-raa-tay — The Torah (= Divine scripture revealed upon Prophet Moses p.o.h)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses.  See وَ  above)
  • لِ — Lay — For / so that (= For the benefit, object, purpose or reason; with intent to
  • اُحِلَّ — O-hil-la — Allowed (= v., pass., past., 3rd person. Accepted; allowed; approved; authorized; legalized; licensed; permitted; made lawful. Also, declared appropriate, kosher or proper)
  • کُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person. You. The Holy Qor-aan states this way when addressing both men and women jointly
  • بَعۡضَ — Bau-dz…(ul) — Some of (= A few; a part; piece; fraction; portion; others.
  • الَّذِىۡ — La-zee — That (= s., m, 3rd person. An article, thing or person)
  • حُرِّمَ — Hoor-ray-ma — Was prohibited (= v., pass., past., 3rd person. Banned; barred; disallowed; disapproved; excluded; forbidden; interdicted; made illegal; outlawed; not authorized or permitted; proscribed; stopped)
  • عَلَيۡ — Alai — Upon (= Above; for; on; over; to; upon)
  • کُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person. You. The Holy Qor-aan states this way when addressing both men and women jointly)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses.  See وَ  above)
  • جِئۡتُ — Jaye-to — I have come (= v., s.,1st person, Arrived, brought, given, positioned, reached or settled to benefit you. See above Note)
  • كُمۡ — Koom — All of you (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person. You. The Holy Qor-aan states this way when addressing both men and women jointly)
  • بِ  — Bay — With (= Literally the word  بِ  means ‘with)
  • اٰيَةٍ — Aa-ya-tin — Sign (= s., 1. Manifestation; message; narrative; revelation; verse. 2. Command; direction; evidence; law; order. 3. Corroboration; indication; lesson; portent; proof; pointer; symbol; token. 4. Every element to create a crystal clear picture leading to an absolute conviction. 5. Argument, part or portion that highlights or points to something. See above Note)
  • مِنۡ — Min — From among (= From the class, category, count, kind, persons or out of)
  • رَبِّ — Rub-bay — God (= The Almighty Allah who fills all needs of all His creatures; Cherisher; Creator; Guardian; Master; Lord Provident. The Only One Who provides all that sustains life. The Ultimate Provider of air, water, food and whatever we and all other creatures need to live and subsist)
  • کُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person. You. The Holy Qor-aan states this way when addressing both men and women jointly)
  • فَ — Fa … (ut) —  So (= As a result; consequently; then; thereafter; therefore)
  • اتَّقُوا — Ta-qoo … (l) — Do duty to (= v., To clean inner self, do duty to God and ward off evil. The root of this word reflects “one who walks through thorny bushes taking all possible care that his clothes are not caught in and torn by their branches.” To avoid  angering Allah and be God-fearing To act piously and righteously. To be good, noble and virtuous. See our Commentary The Righteous for more details)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ha — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses.  See وَ  above)
  • أَطِيعُونِ — Atee-oon — Follow me (= Carry out directions; obey. See our Commentary ‘The Obedience‘)

* Note:003:051. Several Prophets including Jesus (003:051), Noah (026:109 and 132), Hoo-d (026:127), Sua-leh, (026:145 and 151), Lot (026:164) and Sho-aib (026:180) — peace on them — guided their people with a similar message contained in the last five words of this verse.
