The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                003:053

 

فَلَمَّاۤ اَحَسَّ عِيۡسٰى مِنۡهُمُ الۡكُفۡرَ قَالَ مَنۡ اَنۡصَارِىۡۤ اِلَى اللّٰهِ‌ؕ  قَالَ الۡحَـوَارِيُّوۡنَ نَحۡنُ اَنۡصَارُ اللّٰهِ‌ۚ  اٰمَنَّا بِاللّٰهِ‌ۚ  وَاشۡهَدۡ بِاَنَّا مُسۡلِمُوۡنَ

 

Fa-lum-maa-aa-hus-sa-ee-saa-min-ho-mool-koof-ra                                                            Qaa-la-mun-un-saa-re-aiy-lul-laa-hay                                                                                        Qaa-lul-ha-vaa-re-yoo-na-nauh-no-un-saa-rool-laa-hay                                                      Aa-mun-naa-bil-laa-hay.                                                                                                                   Waush-haud-bay-un-naa-moos-lay-moo-n.

 

And when Jesus perceived from them the disbelief                                                     He said, “Who is my helper for the cause of Allah.”                                                       The disciples said, “We are the helpers of Allah.                                                           We have believed in Allah.                                                                                                  And you witness that we are submissive.”

 

  • فَ — Fa — Therefore (= As a result; consequently; hence; so; then; thereafter)
  • لَمَّاۤ — Lum-maa — When (= Any time; at such time; what; whatever; whenever)
  • اَحَسَّ — Aa-hus-sa — Perceived (= Became conscious; came to know; felt; found; noticed; observed; realized)
  • عِيۡسٰى — Ee-saa — Jesus (= The name of a Messenger / Prophet of Allah)
  • مِنۡ — Min — From (= Among, from or out of class, category or count or kind)
  • هُمُ — Ho-mo…(ol) — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Refers to the disciples of Jesus)
  • الۡکُفۡرَ — Koof-ra — Disbelief (= n., Blasphemy; disbelief; faithlessness; ungratefulness. Abuse, denial, failure, misuse, rejection or refusal to appreciate, thank, use or utilize any God-given ability,  blessing, capacity, capability or opportunity afforded and talent endowed. Being heretic, impious, infidel, ingrate, renegade, rejector, unbeliever, thankless. See Commentary titled as Belief and Disbelief. A/t/a, ‘Jesus felt … his people would renounce and ‘Jesus observed that they had no faith’)
  • قَالَ Qaa-la — He said (= v., past, s., m., 3rd person. Asked, announced; broadcast called out; cried; demanded; queried; questioned; specified; solicited answer; stated; told)
  • مَنۡ — Mun — Who (= Anyone; whoever; whom; whomever; whoso)
  • اَنۡصَارٍ — An-saar — Helpers (= n., pl., Aides; assistants; promoters; supporters)
  • ىۡ — Ee — My (= pro., s., m & f., 1stperson. Me / My)
  • اِلٰٓى — Aiy-la…(ul) — For (= All the way to; in the cause, direction or the way; to the work of God)
  • اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
  • قَالَ Qaa-la..(ul) — Said (= v., past, s., m., 3rd person. Announced; answered;  broadcast; called; conveyed; declared; explained; informed; replied; responded; stated; submitted; told)
  • الۡحَـوَارِيُّوۡنَ — Ha-vaa-re-yoo-na — Disciples (= n., pl. Assistants; associates; helpers; promoters)
  • نَحۡنُ — Nauh-no — We (= pro., pl., m & f., 1st person)
  • اَنۡصَارُ — An-saa-ro…(ol) — Helpers (= pl., Promoter s or supporters  in the cause of Allah)
  • اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
  • اٰمَنَّا — Aaa-mun-na — We have believed (= v., past., pl. 1st person. We have believed in the Holy Qor-aan and accepted Islam. Admitted, affirmed, approved, confirmed concurred, corroborated, entered, evidenced, proved, testified and witnessed to have become Moslems)
  • بِ — Bay — With / In (= Literally the word بِ  means ‘with’ but in instant case the intent in original text is best conveyed in English with an ‘in’)
  • اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
  • وَ — Wa…(ush) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • اشۡهَدۡ — Ush-hud — You be a witness (= v., Bear witness; corroborate; stand in evidence;  prove; give an account or testimony as a witness)
  • بِ  —  Bay — with (= Literally the word  بِ  means ‘with’)
  • اَ نَّآَ — Un-naa — Surely we / us   (= Combines two words. اَنَّ  means ‘certainly, definitely, surely or verily. And  نَآ  means ‘all of us’)
  • مُسۡلِمُوۡنَ — Moos-lay-moo-n — Submissive (= n., pl., The believers. The worshippers surrendered to the will of God in dedication and devotion and so at peace. See Note 003:053)

* Note 003:053. The simple straightforward translation of the word  مُسۡلِمُوۡنَ  is as given above. Other translations include ‘Bear witness that we are Muslims’ and ‘we are Muslims (i.e. We submit to Allah)’

The criticism that Jesus came 600 years before Islam and his disciples could not claim to be ‘Muslims’ was countered by A Yusuf Ali in his Note 392 stating that “It was the one Religion – the Religion of God, which was in essence the religion of Abraham, Moses and Jesus.”
