The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                               003:115

 

يُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ بِاللّٰهِ وَالۡيَوۡمِ الۡاٰخِرِ وَ يَاۡمُرُوۡنَ بِالۡمَعۡرُوۡفِ وَيَنۡهَوۡنَ عَنِ الۡمُنۡكَرِ وَيُسَارِعُوۡنَ فِىۡ الۡخَيۡرٰتِ ؕ وَاُولٰٓٮِٕكَ مِنَ الصّٰلِحِيۡنَ‏

 

Yoe-may-noo-na-bil-laa-hay-wul-yao-mil-aa-khai-ray                                                          Wa-yau-mo-roo-na-bil-mau-roo-fay                                                                                              Wa-yun-hao-na-unil-moon-ka-ray                                                                                                  Wa-yo-saa-ray-oo-na-fil-khai-raa-tay                                                                                            Waolaa-aiy-ka-may-nus-saa-lay-hee-n.

 

They believe in Allah and the Hereafter                                                                              And they urge with the virtue                                                                                               And they stop from the evil                                                                                                    And they hurry in doing the good things                                                                        And they indeed are the Righteous.

 

  • يُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ — Yoe-may-na — They believe (= v., pres., pl., We have sincerely and wholeheartedly believed in the Holy Qor-aan and accepted Islam. 2. Admitted, affirmed, approved, confirmed, concurred, corroborated, embraced, entered, evidenced, proved, testified and witnessed to have become Moslems)
  • بِ — B…(il) — In (= This word in Arabic literally means ‘with’. Sometimes its English ‘in’ is equally accurate, especially when used with Allah’s name, as is the case here)
  • اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., Connects words, phrases or clauses; also; but; additionally; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • الۡيَوۡمِ –Yao-m…(il) — The Day (= End of a period, term or time; juncture)
  • الۡاٰخِرِ‌ — Aa-khay-ray — Yet to come (= Coming; Hereafter last; later; Judgment Day; Last Day; Resurrection)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)

                   Next seven words repeated in 003:105 in the 3rd person format,                                 and their gist in 003:111 in 2nd person format, verbalize an                                           important concept about Islam.   • يَاۡمُرُوۡنَ — Yau-mo-roo-na — They urge (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. The verb here reflects man’s good actions and its best translation is to admonish, administer, bid, bring forth, cause, command, compel, dictate, direct, educate, enforce, enjoin, exhort, force, impose, instruct, lay down as law, lead down the path, mandate, motivate, move, order, preach, profess, prompt, push, spur, stimulate, teach, train, tutor or urge. However, these acts are best if done fairly, gently,  persuasively and not arbitrarily since the Holy Qor-aan requires in the verse 016:126 to ‘call to your God’s way with wisdom and goodly exhortation.’ See our aforesaid Commentary)
  • بِ — Bay…(il) — With (= Literally the word  بِ  means ‘with’)
  • الۡمَعۡرُوۡفِ‌ — Mau-roo-fay — The virtue (= n., Action, gesture, way or word which is appropriate, customary, decent, equitable, fair, good, graceful, gratuitous, honest, honorable, justice, lawful, legal, legitimate, nice, proper, reasonable, right conduct, righteous, suitable, virtuous and within one’s rights. See our aforesaid Commentary)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • يَنۡهَوۡنَ — Yun-hao-na — They stop (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. They stop or prohibit. See Note 003:105 and aforesaid Commentary )
  • عَنِ — Aa-nay…(il) — From (= About; concerning; regarding; relative to)
  • الۡمُنۡكَرِ‌ — Moon-ka-ray — The evil (= n., Something which inherently and all in itself is bad,  illegal, illegitimate, improper, indecency; repulsive, unacceptable; wicked or wrong.  See our aforesaid Commentary)
  • وَ — Wa — And — (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • يُسَارِعُوۡنَ  — Yo-saa-ray-oo-na — They hurry (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Enthusiastically doing the job that has to be done; hastening to outdo; swiftly carrying out the assigned task; vying with each other; quickly.  A/t/a, ‘hasten (in emulation)’  )
  • فِىۡ — Fe…(il) — In (= In a duration, event, time, place, period or situation. Also, about, concerning, regarding or relative to)
  • الۡخَيۡرٰتِ — Khai-raa-tay —  Good things (= n., pl., 1. Acts, deeds, favors, things or tidings that are comparatively superior, more appreciable, and greater or higher in value. 2. God-given gifts like (a) ability, energy, enthusiasm and potentials, (b) belongings,  benefits, benevolences, blessings and bounties, (c) assets, goods, money, possessions, property, riches, substances and wealth, and (d) time, talents and valuables including inheritance and personal and professional contacts. 3.   • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ — O-laa-aiy-ka — All of these (= Acts; facts, items, persons or things)
  • مِنَ — May-na…(us) — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category or several   articles, counts, kind, things, persons or phenomenon. A/t/a, ‘In the ranks of’)
  • الصّٰلِحِيۡنَ — Sua-lay-hee-n — The righteous (= n., pl., People who are always clean, good and holy acting piously and appropriately. Pious. Righteous. Upright. Virtuous)
