The Holy Qor-aan 003:155
ثُمَّ اَنۡزَلَ عَلَيۡكُمۡ مِّنۡۢ بَعۡدِ الۡغَمِّ اَمَنَةً نُّعَاسًا يَّغۡشٰى طَآٮِٕفَةً مِّنۡكُمۡ ۙ وَطَآٮِٕفَةٌ قَدۡ اَهَمَّتۡهُمۡ اَنۡفُسُهُمۡ يَظُنُّوۡنَ بِاللّٰهِ غَيۡرَ الۡحَـقِّ ظَنَّ الۡجَـاهِلِيَّةِ ؕ يَقُوۡلُوۡنَ هَلۡ لَّنَا مِنَ الۡاَمۡرِ مِنۡ شَىۡءٍ ؕ قُلۡ اِنَّ الۡاَمۡرَ كُلَّهٗ لِلّٰهِ ؕ يُخۡفُوۡنَ فِىۡۤ اَنۡفُسِهِمۡ مَّا لَا يُبۡدُوۡنَ لَكَ ؕ يَقُوۡلُوۡنَ لَوۡ كَانَ لَنَا مِنَ الۡاَمۡرِ شَىۡءٌ مَّا قُتِلۡنَا هٰهُنَا ؕ قُلۡ لَّوۡ كُنۡتُمۡ فِىۡ بُيُوۡتِكُمۡ لَبَرَزَ الَّذِيۡنَ كُتِبَ عَلَيۡهِمُ الۡقَتۡلُ اِلٰى مَضَاجِعِهِمۡ ۚ وَلِيَبۡتَلِىَ اللّٰهُ مَا فِىۡ صُدُوۡرِكُمۡ وَلِيُمَحِّصَ مَا فِىۡ قُلُوۡبِكُمۡؕ وَاللّٰهُ عَلِيۡمٌۢ بِذَاتِ الصُّدُوۡرِ
Thoom-ma-un-za-la-alai-koom Mim-bau-dil-ghum-may-aa-ma-na-ton-no-aa-son Yaugh-shaa-taa-aiy-fa-ton-min-koom
Wa-taa-aiy-fa-ton-qud-aa-hum-mut-hoom-un-fo-sa-hoom Ya-zoon-noo-na-bil-laa-hay-ghai-rul-huq-qay Zun-nul-jaa-hay-lee-ya-tay
Ya-qoo-loo-na-hul-la-na-may-nul-um-ray-min-shai-in Qool-in-nul-um-ro-kool-lo-hoo-lil-laa-hay Yookh-foo-na-fee-un-fo-say-him-maa-laa-yoob-do-na-la-ka
Ya-qoo-lao-na-lao-kaa-na-la-naa May-nul-um-ray-shai-oon Maa-qo-til-naa-haa-ho-naa
Qool-lao-koon-toom-fee-bo-yoo-tay-koom La-ba-ra-zul-la-zee-na-ko-tay-ba-alai-hay-mool-qut-lo Elaa-ma-dzaa-jay-aiy-him
Wa-lay-yub-ta-lay-yul-laa-ho-maa-fee-so-doo-ray-koom Wa-lay-yo-ma-hiss-sa-maa-fee-qo-loo-bay-koom Wul-laa-ho-alee-moon-bay-zaa-tis-so-door
Then He entrusted to you After the distress a peace, a slumber, Settling down on one group among you
And the other group made up their minds With no reasonable thoughts about Allah But conjecture of the period of Ignorance.
They say, “Do we have anything to do in making the Order?” You say, “Surely all in making of the Order is for Allah.” They hide in their minds what they do not show you.
They say, “If there was for us Anything to do in making of the Order, We would not have been killed here.”
You say, “Even if you were in your homes Those on whom the martyrdom was destined Would have gone to their deathbeds.”
And so that Allah may test what is in your chests and minds And He may purify you from what is in your hearts and minds By God Allah is the Knower of what is in the hearts

- اَمَنَةً — Aa-ma-na-ton — A peace (= Calm; security; serenity; state of being in peace; tranquility. A/t/a, peace of mind)
- نُّعَاسًا — No-aa-son — A slumber (= n., Sleep-inducing fatigue; sleepiness. A/t/a, ‘In the shape of a slumber’)
- يَّغۡشٰى — Yaugh-shaa — Settling down (= v., pres., m., 3rd person., Covering; enshrouding; overcoming; overlapping; overpowering; overtaking; taking over. This verb is in the present tense; it can mean inducing or settling; it is correctly translated as ‘overcome’ or ‘overcoming’; but its translation in the past tense as ‘overcame’ and ‘which overwhelmed’ are not accurate)
- طَآٮِٕفَةً — Taa-aiy-fa-ton — One group (= n., Assembly; band; bunch; crowd; faction; gathering; mass; part; party; section; throng)

- يَظُنُّوۡنَ — Ya-zoon-noo-na — Thinking (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person., Believing; conjecturing; considering; construing; guessing; having thoughts about. This verb is in the present tense; it is correctly translated as ‘thinking wrongly of Allah’; but it is inaccurately translated in the past tense as they ‘thought wrongly of Allah,’ ‘entertained false notions’ and ‘entertained .. thoughts’)
- بِ — Bay…(il) — About (= Literally the word بِ means ‘with’. A/t/a, concerning
- اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)

The word is also used to mean Islam, the Right Faith. Also, if the prior word is غَيۡر, unfairly, inappropriately, unjustifiably, unjustly, wrongly, with wrong thoughts or wrong suspicions)
- ظَنَّ — Zun-nul — Conjecture (= n.., Belief; conjecture; guess; idea; thought; vision. A/t/a, ‘false notions (they used to bear in the days of ignorance’ and ‘foolish thoughts’)
- الۡجَـاهِلِيَّةِ — Jaa-hay-lee-ya-tay — The Ignorance (= The period of ignorance. A/t/a, ‘days of Ignorance,’ ‘pagan thoughts’ and ‘suspicions due To Ignorance’)

This verb is in present tense and its translations as they ‘said’ or ‘muttered’ are not accurate)

- كُتِبَ — Ko-tay-ba — Destined (= v, past., passive., Decreed; destined; determined; fixed; ordained; prescribed; settled)

- هِمُ — Hay-mo..(ol) — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person. Refers to the aforesaid People)
- الۡقَتۡلُ — Qut-lo — The martyrdom (= n., Battling; fighting; going to war. Also, death or end of life. A/t/a, ‘slaughter’ and ‘be slain’)
- اِلٰى — E-laa — To (= All the way to; in the direction of; to; towards)
- مَضَاجِعِ — Ma-dzaa-jay-aiy — Deathbeds (= n., pl., sleeping quarters. A/t/a, graves, places where they would be slain, places where they were to lie, places where they were destined to fall, place of their death, stations where they would die and ‘their last couches. ‘Thus would Allah’s decree have been carried out’ or ‘ that Allah might fulfill His decree’ are not the translations of any words that the Holy Qor-aan has used here. Such extrapolations, explanations and interpretations open the door for those who lash at a translation unjustifiably assuming it to be the scripture)

- وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ above. A/t/a, ‘And (all this that took place in the Battle of Uhud was)’ which is an input by the translator and no translation of a text of the Holy Qor-aan)
- لِ — Lay — For (= Because of; concerning; due to; for the purpose that; for the reason of; on account of; regarding; relative to; so that; to; towards. An explanatory addition inserted here was “that Allah bring about His decree,’ ‘(this happened) that Allah might’ and ‘Allah’s will to test your faith and courage’)
- يَبۡتَلِيَ — Yub-ta-lay-ya — He may test (= v., pres., s., 3rd person. Evaluate; try. A/t/a, might test or reveal. This verb in the present tense was correctly translated by one translator in the verse 003:153 as ‘He might try you’ but then he himself inconsistently and inaccurately translated it in past tense as ‘Allah desired to test’ in this verse 003:155)

- يُمَحِّصَ — Yo-mauh-hay-sa — Cleansing (= v, pres., s, 3rd person., Cleaning; purging; purifying; removing impurities; testing. Also, to anoint, bring in the open public view, disclose, establish, expose, prove, reveal or show. A/t/a, ‘purify that which was in your hearts (sins)’ and ‘purge what was in your hearts’)
- مَاۤ — Maa –All that (= What; whatever; whatsoever. A/t/a, ‘that which passes through’ )
- فِىۡ — Fee — In (= Contained or inside a place. See فِىۡ above. A/t/a, ‘innermost thoughts’)
- قُلُوۡبِ — Qo-loo–bay — Hearts (= n., pl., 1. The central organ inside the chest of all living creatures that keeps up the supply of blood to every tissue by pumping blood constantly through veins and controls all body parts and directs all their functions. 2. Mind; inner soul; ability to think, choose, decide and act in an appropriate manner both physically and spiritually; understanding. The word here refers to the hidden thoughts locked inside human breasts, bosoms, chests, minds, souls and understanding)

- وَ — Wa…(ul) — And (= This vaao is tantamount to taking oath; solemn declaration or calling as a witness. Normally a Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; also; and; but; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
- اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)

- عَلِيۡمٌ — Alee-moo … (nb) — The Knower (= superlative form indicates the greatest, the highest, the most, and highlights that none more than Him knows. The most Knowing. Informed to the maximum. Has total and perfect knowledge. Has nothing out of sight. Nothing whatever is beyond or out of His knowing)
- بِ — Bay — With what (= Literally the word بِ means ‘with’)
- ذَاتِ — Zaa-tay…(is) — Of (= n., In re Allah … Controller. Giver. Master. Occupant. Owner. Possessor. See Note 003:120)
