003:188

The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                     003:188

Wa-iz-aa-kha-zul-laa-ho-me-thaa-qal-la-ze-na                                                                              Oo-tool-kay-taa-ba-la-to-buy-yay-noon-na-hoo                                                                            Lin-naa-say-wa-laa-tuk-to-moo-na-hoo                                                                                        Fa-na-ba-zoo-ho-wa-raa-aa-za-hoo-ray-him                                                                                  Waush-ta-rao-bay-he-tha-ma-nun-qa-lee-laa                                                                                Fa-bai-sa-maa-yaush-ta-roo-n

And when Allah took the Pledge from those who                                                            Were given the Book, “Surely you will explain it                                                              To the people and not conceal it.”                                                                                          Then they threw it behind their backs                                                                                  And they traded it for a paltry price.                                                                                    So, bad is what they trade.

** Note 003:188.  The root و  ث  ق  carries in its meanings the concept of an affirming, agreeing, assenting, confirming or endorsing a thing already presented, recorded or put forward.

The verb in the past tense وَاثَقَ means he pledged. The nouns مِيۡثَاقَ means pledge and توثيق means confirmation of a pledge. The adjective مِّيۡثَاقًا means as a pledge. The number of derivates from this root exceed dozens.

An arrangement, assurance, promise or an undertaking made unilaterally (by-one-side) vouching that its maker will always honor it. An arrangement, agreement, compact, contract, confirmation, covenant, pact or treaty when 2-or-more parties make it and assure all concerned that it will always be honored.

Various verbiages have been used by authors in giving different meanings and details of the several derivates of this root. See verses 002:084002:085, 002:094,  003:082003:188.,  004:022,  004:091005:008, 005:013, 005:014, 005:015, 005:071 and 031:023 among others.
