 وَلۡيَخۡشَ الَّذِيۡنَ لَوۡ تَرَكُوۡا مِنۡ خَلۡفِهِمۡ ذُرِّيَّةً ضِعٰفًا خَافُوۡا عَلَيۡهِمۡ فَلۡيَتَّقُوا اللّٰهَ وَلۡيَقُوۡلُوا قَوۡلًا سَدِيۡدًا‏

 

Wul-yukh-shul-la-ze-na-lao-ta-ra-koo-min                                                                                      Khul-fay-him-zoor-re-ya-ton-zay-aa-fun-khaa-foo-alai-him                                                    Ful-yut-ta-qool-laa-ha-wul-ya-qoo-loo-qao-lum-sa-dee-da

 

And surely those guardians should fear that if they left                                            Behind them weak children they would be afraid for them.                                        So surely they should do duty to Allah and say very clear words

 

  • وَ — Wa…(ul) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  •  لۡ — L —  Surely (= Absolutely; assuredly; categorically; certainly; clearly, definitely; doubtlessly; earnestly; for sure; indeed; positively; really; seriously; sincerely; specifically; surely; truly; verily. Also, behooves; for; let him/her or them find, go, proceed or take the clues from or about. A/t/a, ‘let’ by many translators)
  • يَخۡشَ — Yukh-sha.(ul) — Fear (= v., pres., 3rd person. Be afraid; have fear)
  • ٱلَّذِينَ — Ul-la-ze-na — Those who (= pl., m, 3rd person. Refers to those in masculine gender. Ref is to the administrators, executors and guardians in charge of the inheritance they are distributing. A/t/a, ‘those (disposing of an estate),’  ‘those who are solicitous about the welfare,’  ‘those fear (in their behavior toward orphans’ and ‘Those who would be  anxious’)
  • لَوۡ –Lao — If (= In case; under the circumstances)
  • تَرَكُواْ — Ta-ra-koo — Left (= v., past., pl., 3rd person A/t/a ‘leave behind,’  ‘have the same fear in their minds as they would have for their own, if they had left’ and ‘if they should leave behind them their own weak offspring’)
  • مِنۡ — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category or several articles, counts, kind, things, persons or phenomenon)
  • خَلۡفِ — Khul-fay — Behind (= n., After; back. A/t/a, ‘on the eve of their own death… would leave behind’ and ‘after their own death’)
  • هِمۡ — Him — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person. Refers to orphans’ guardians)
  • ذُرِّيَّةٌ — Zor-re-ya-ton — Progeny (= Children; descendants; family; future generations; kids; race; offspring. Generally used for male lineal issues)
  • ضُعَفَآءُ — Dzo-aa-faa-o — Very weak (= n., pl., Feeble; in capable of taking care of themselves; small; unable to fend for themselves; vulnerable; weak and young. A/t/a, ‘helpless,’  ‘young,’  ‘weak’ and  ‘weakly’)
  • خَافُواْ — Khaa-foo — They will fear (= v., pres., pl. 3rd person. Be afraid; be scared stiff. A/t/a, ‘would be anxious,’  ‘take care not to wrong orphans’ and ‘would be afraid’)
  • عَلَيۡ — Alai — On (= Above; against; before; during; for; on; on top of; over; to; upon. A/t/a, ‘on their account’)
  • هِمۡ — Him — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person. Refers to aforesaid orphans)
  • فَ — Fa…(ul) — Then (= Hence; so; thus; after all this; at the end; in conclusion;  consequently; finally; resultantly; thereafter; therefore)
  • لۡ — L — Surely (= Absolutely; assuredly. Also, let. See لۡ  above)
  • يَتَّقُواْ — Yut-ta-qoo — Do duty (= v., pares., pl., 3rd person. Act righteously; be righteous; behave piously; do good deeds; mind duty. Also, avoid angering Allah. A/t/a, ‘mindful of their obligation.’ See our Commentary The Righteous for more meanings)
  • ٱللَّهَ — Laa-ha — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • وَ — Wa…(ul) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • لۡ — L — Surely (= Absolutely; assuredly; categorically. Let. See لۡ above)
  • يَقُولُواْ — Ya-qoo-loo — They say (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Speak; repeat; tell)
  • قَوۡلاً — Qao-lun — A word (= Announcement; assertion; broadcast; call; statement; conveyance; explanation exposition; information; saying; specification; speech)
  • سَدِيدًا — Sa-de-daa — Firm (= Adj., Certain; clear; crystal clear. Sound, strong and solid like stone and steel. Also, concrete; definite; sure; positive; stable. A/t/a, ‘act in a straightforward manner,’  ‘the right word,’  ‘right words,’  ‘words of appropriate (comfort),’  ‘the right thing,’  ‘the pertinent things,’  ‘speak for justice’ and ‘speak justly’)
