The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                   004:036

 

وَاِنۡ خِفۡتُمۡ شِقَاقَ بَيۡنِهِمَا فَابۡعَثُوۡا حَكَمًا مِّنۡ اَهۡلِهٖ وَحَكَمًا مِّنۡ اَهۡلِهَا‌ ۚ اِنۡ يُّرِيۡدَاۤ اِصۡلَاحًا يُّوَفِّـقِ اللّٰهُ بَيۡنَهُمَا‌ ؕ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ كَانَ عَلِيۡمًا خَبِيۡرًا‏

 

Wa-in-khif-toom-shay-qaa-qa-bai-na-hay-maa                                                                        Fub-aa-thoo-ha-ka-mun-min-ah-lay-he                                                                                          Wa-ha-ka-mun-min-ah-lay-haa                                                                                                        In-yo-ree-daa-iss-laa-hun                                                                                                                  Yo-wuf-fay-qul-laa-ho-bai-na-ho-maa                                                                                            In-nul-laa-ha-kaa-na-alee-mun-kha-be-raa

 

And if you fear dissension between the two                                                                  Then  set up one judge from his family                                                                              And one judge from her family.                                                                                              If they both husband and wife seek a correction                                                      Allah will facilitate that between them both.                                                            Allah has indeed always been Most Knowing, Most Informed

 

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon.
  • اِنۡ — In — If (= In case; under the circumstances)
  • خِفۡ — Khif — Fear (= v., pres., f., pl., 2nd person. Apprehend; are afraid of; suspect)
  • تُمۡ — Toom —  You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person. You. The Holy Qor-aan states this way when addressing both men and women jointly)
  • شِقَاقَ  — Shay-qaa-qa — Dissension (= n., Adversarial relationship; breach; break-up; conflict; dispute; division; enmity; gulf; hard luck; obstinacy; opposition; schism; situation; split; unlucky situation or ties; violent disagreement. )
  • بَيۡنَ — Bai-na — Between (= Ahead, facing or in front of; Among; betwixt)
  • هِمَا — Hay-maa  — The two (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person. Refers to aforesaid two persons. A/t/a, ‘them twain (the man and wife),’ ‘them twain (the man and his wife),’ ‘husband  and wife,’ ‘them’ and ‘a man and his wife’)
  • فَ — Fa…(ub) — Then (= Hence; so; thus; consequently; finally; therefore)
  • ابۡعَثُوۡا — (U)b-aa-thoo — You set up (= v., pres., f., pl., 2nd person. Appoint; assign; employ; engage; hire; raise; select; sign up)
  • حَكَمًا — Ha-ka-mun — One judge (= n., Arbiter; arbitrator; decider; judicious person. A/t/a,  ‘(two) arbitrators, one’)
  • مِّنَ — Min — From (= Among or out of the class, kind or several persons)
  • اَهۡلِ — Ah-lay — Family (= n., Custodians; family heads; folks; friends; guardians;  household; relatives; people; representatives; side; supporters)
  • هٖ — He — His (= pro., s., m; 3rd person. Refers to husband)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • حَكَمًا — Ha-ka-mun — One judge (= n., Arbiter; arbitrator; decider; judicious person. A/t/a, ‘the other’)
  •  مِّنَ  — Min — From (= Among or out of the class, kind or several persons)
  • اَهۡلِ — Ah-lay — Family (= n., Folk; friends; relatives; supporters. See  اَهۡلِ  above)
  • هَا — Haa — Her (= pro., s., f., 3rd person., Refers to wife)
  • اِنۡ — In — If (= In case; under the circumstances)
  • يُّرِيۡدَاۤ — Yo-ree-daa — Both seek (= v., pres., 3rd person. Men with a distinct possibility to never reach their planned goal, the accurate translation of this word is aim, aspire, choose, conform, covet,    crave, desire, go after, hanker, like, long, plan, pursue, scheme, seek, wish, want or yearn. See Note 002:186. The correct translation of the word is ‘they’ and ‘the two’ and obviously refers to the husband and wife who really are the affected parties. But some authors have translated it as ‘they (the arbiters)’ and as ‘(two) arbitrators, one … and the other; if they both wish for peace’)
  • اِصۡلَاحًا — Iss-laa-hun — A correction (= n., Adjustment; agreement; alteration; amity; amendment; improvement; mending; peace; modification; reconciliation; rectification; reformation.  A/t/a, ‘a mind to effect reconciliation.’ Inaccurate translations of this noun into a verb are ‘to be reconciled’ and ‘wish for peace’)
  • يُّوَفِّـقِ  — Yo-wu-fay-qa —  Facilitate (= v., pres., s., 3rd person. Allow; enable; make possible; support. A/t/a, ‘effect harmony,’ ‘effect it,’ ‘make them of one mind,’ ‘bring  them together again,’ ‘bring accord,’ ‘bring it about between them’ and ‘will cause their  reconciliation’)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • بَيۡنَ — Bai-na — Between (= Ahead, facing or in front of; among; betwixt)
  • هُمَا — Ho-maa — Those two (= pro., 2pl., m., 3 rd person. Refers to husband and wife)
  • اِنَّ — In-na…(ul) — Certainly (= Absolutely; definitely; doubtlessly; earnestly; indeed;      really; surely; truly; verily. A/t/a, ‘Lo!’)
  • ٱللَّهَ — Laa-ha — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • كَانَ — Kaa-na — He has been (= v., past., s., m., 3rd person., Continued doing; had been; used to; were, went on doing. Indicates the continuity from the past to the present and leading into the future. A/t/a, ‘is’)
  • عَلِيۡمًا — Alee-maa — Most Knowing (= superlative form indicates the greatest, the highest, the most, and highlights that none more than Him knows or is knowing. Has total and perfect knowledge. Has nothing out of sight. Knows all. Nothing whatever is beyond or out of His knowing. Well-Acquainted. Well-Aware. Most Knowledgeable. A/t/a, ‘ever Knowing,’ ‘ever Knower,’ ‘ever All-Knower,’ ‘All-Knowing’ and ‘wise’)
  • خَبِيۡرًا‏ — Kha-be-raa — Most Informed (= superlative form indicates the greatest, the highest, the most Aware, Informed and Knowledgeable. Knows all. All-Knowing. Knower of all that anyone does or ever did. Perfectly informed. A/t/a, ‘Aware,’ ‘All-Aware’ and ‘Well-acquainted with all things’)
