The Holy Qor-aan 004:040
وَمَاذَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ لَوۡ اٰمَنُوۡا بِاللّٰهِ وَالۡيَوۡمِ الۡاٰخِرِ وَاَنۡفَقُوۡا مِمَّا رَزَقَهُمُ اللّٰهُ ؕ وَكَانَ اللّٰهُ بِهِمۡ عَلِيۡمًا
Wa-maa-zaa-alai-him-lao Aa-ma-noo-bil-laa-hay-wul-yao-mil-aa-khay-ray Wun-fa-qoo-mim-maa-ra-za-qa-ho-mool-laa-ho Wa-kaa-nul-laa-ho-bay-him-alee-maa
And what could fall on them if They had believed in Allah and the Later Day And spent out of what Allah gave them? And Allah has always been in full Know of them.
- وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon.
- مَاۤ — Maa — What (= All that; whatever; whatsoever)
- ذَا — Zaa — Could fall or come (= Expression of surprise questioning the possibility of a damage, harm, problem or wrong. A/t/a, ‘harm would have befallen them,’ ‘harm would have befallen them,’ ‘harm would befall them,’ ‘harm would have come,’ ‘harm could befall,’ ‘(harm) would it do,’ ‘(harm) could come to them,’ ‘have they (to fear)’ and ‘loss have they’)
- عَلَيۡ — Alai — Upon (= Above; against; before; during; for; on; over; upon)
- هِمۡ — Him — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person. Those with 3 vices mentioned in the prior verse)
- لَوۡ — Lao — If (= In case; under the circumstances)
- اٰمَنُوۡا –Aa-ma-noo — They believed (= v. past., pl., 3rd person. Entered faith; followed the Holy Qor-aan, the Islaam and became Moslems. A/t/a,’believe’ in the present tense verb but it is an inaccurate translation since the Holy Qor-aan has used here a verb in the past tense )
- بِ — B…(il) — With (= Literally the word بِ means with)
- اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
- وَ — Wa…(ul) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ a
- الۡيَوۡمِ — Yao-m…(il) — The Day (= s., Juncture; period, term or time that comes to an end)
- الۡاٰخِرِ — Aaa-khay-ray — The Later (= n., Coming; end; final; last; yet to come. The word الۡيَوۡم means the day and الۡاٰخِرِ means Hereafter or yet to come. Joined together the phrase الۡيَوۡمِ الۡاٰخِرِ means The Judgment; The End; The Resurrection. A/t/a ‘the Last’)
- وَ –Wa…(un) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ above)
- اَنۡفَقُوۡا — Un-fa-qoo — They spent (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Contributed, donated, gave; expended; invested, laid out, put or uses. The Holy Qor-aan has used this word for any or all above acts done for any charity, good cause, noble purpose or poor person. Also, ‘gave alms.’ A/t/a, ‘spend’ and ‘spend (aright)’ which are inaccurate translations in a present tense verb when the Holy Qor-aan has used here a verb in the past tense)
- مِمَّا — Mim-maa — Out of what (= Combination of two words. The first word مِنۡ (min) means ‘among, from or out of the class, category, kind count or several persons or things.’ The second word مَاۤ (maa) means ‘all that, what, whatever, any time, when, whenever.’ The combination of both words means ‘for what; out of what; concerning, regarding, relative to; thereby. A/t/a, ‘out of what’)
- رَزَقَ — Ra-za-qa — Gave (= v. past., pl., 3rd person. Bestowed; conferred; provided; granted. A/t/a, ‘given them for sustenance’)
- هُمُ — Ho-mo..(ol) — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person. Refers to aforesaid persons)
- اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
- وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ above)
- كَانَ — Kaa-na…(ul) — He has been (= v., past., s., m., 3rd person., Continued doing; had been; used to; were, went on doing. Indicates the continuity from the past to the present and leading into the future. A/t/a, ‘when Allah is’)
- اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
- بِ — Bay — With (= Literally the word بِ means with)
- هِمۡ — Him — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person. Refers to aforesaid persons)
- عَلِيۡمًا — Alee-maa — In full Know (= superlative form indicates the greatest, the highest, the most, and highlights that none more than Him knows or is knowing. Informed to the maximum. Has total and perfect knowledge. Has nothing out of sight. Knows all. Nothing whatever is beyond or out of His knowing. Well-Acquainted. Well-Aware. Most Knowledgeable. Also, fully aware, ‘is ever Aware of them (and all they do),’ ‘ever Knower of them’ and ‘Ever All-Knower of them.’ A/t/a, ‘knows them well,’ ‘knows them full well’ and ‘knows them all’ are inaccurate translations as a verb because the Holy Qor-aan has used here a word which is a noun as well as an adjective)
