  اَلَمۡ تَرَ اِلَى الَّذِيۡنَ يُزَكُّوۡنَ اَنۡفُسَهُمۡ‌ ؕ بَلِ اللّٰهُ يُزَكِّىۡ مَنۡ يَّشَآءُ وَلَا يُظۡلَمُوۡنَ فَتِيۡلًا

 

 Aa-lum-ta-ra-aiy-lul-la-ze-na-yo-zuk-koo-na-un-fo-sa-hoom                                                  Ba-lil-laa-ho-yo-zuk-kee-mun-yo-shaa-o                                                                                          Wa-laa-yooz-la-moo-na-fa-te-laa

 

Why don’t you look at those who cleanse themselves?                                            The fact is that Allah cleanses him whom He wills                                                      And they won’t be wronged even a tiny bit

  • أَ — Aa — Why (= Question mark like are, can, have, shall, why or will?)
  • لَمۡ — Lum — Don’t (= Absolutely never; no, not at all)
  • تَرَ — Ta-ra — You look (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Look; observe; ponder; view;   watch; witness. See Note 002:244a. Correct translation includes ‘seest thou not,’ ‘Dost thou not know,’ ‘Knowest thou not’ and ‘Consider.’ But the translations of the verb in the past tense as ‘Thou turned Thy vision,’ ‘Hast thou not seen,’ ‘considered’ or ‘Have you not seen’ are not of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated in the past tense))
  • اِلٰٓى — Aiy-la … (ul)  At (= In the direction of; to; towards. In some situations, this   word can also mean for, till or until)
  • ٱلَّذِينَ — Ul-la-zee-na — Those who (= pl., m, 3rd person. Refers to those in masculine gender  that include all articles, things, persons or phenomenon.  A/t/a, ‘those (Jews and Christians)’)
  • يُزَكُّوۡنَ — Yo-zuk-koo-na — Cleanse (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Clean. Purify. Sanctify. The simple straightforward translation of this word is trying to clean or cleanse one self.  But many authors added in their translations the insinuation of bragging, boasting, claiming, counting, flattering or self-praising for their cleansing themselves of impurities, shortcomings, sins  and weaknesses. Such attempts to increase virtues and multiplying spiritual understanding has been derided as follows. A/t/a, ‘claim sanctity,’ ‘assert … to be pure,’ ‘hold … to be pure,’ ‘account … pure,’ ‘think … pure,’ ‘attribute purity,’ ‘praise … for purity,’ ‘praise … in boastfulness’ and ‘claim sanctity’)
  • اَنۡفُسَ — Un-fo-sa — Selves (= n., pl., Hearts; individuals; minds; souls)
  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person. Refers to aforesaid persons)
  • بَلِ — Ba-l…(il) — The fact is (= Aye; but; but the truth is; however; indeed; instead; in truth; nay; nevertheless; of course; on the contrary; rather; really; truthfully; verily; yea but; yes indeed. A/t/a, ‘Nay’)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • يُزَكِّىۡ — Yo-zuk-kee — Cleanses (= v., pres., s., 3rd person., Clean. Purify. Sanctify. A/t/a,  ‘doth sanctify,’ ‘purifieth,’ ‘purifies,’ ‘praise’ and ‘sanctifies’)
  • مَنۡ — Mun — Whom (= Anyone; who; whoever; whomever; whoso)
  • يَّشَآءُ‌ — Ya-shaa-o — He chooses (= v., pres., s., 3rd person. Decides; decrees; desires, destines, dictates; likes, mandates, orders, pleases; prefers; rules; selects; wants; wills; wishes. A/t/a, ‘He will’ and ‘wills’)  
  • وَ  — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • لَا — Laa — Won’t (= Naught; neither; never; none; nor; not at all; absolute denial and total negation without exception. A/t/a, ‘never will’)
  • يُظۡلَمُوۡنَ –Yooz-la-moo-na — Be wronged (= v., pres., pass., pl., 3rd person. Dealt unjustly; done or shown injustice; given diminished return; harmed; paid less than due, paid less than full; shorted; transgressed. A/t/a, ‘they Fail to receive justice,’ ‘treated unjustly,’ ‘injustice will be done’ and ‘dealt with injustice’)
  • فَتِيۡلًا‏ — Fa-te-laa — Tiny bit (= adj., Bit; grain; iota; jot; smallest value. A/t/a, ‘in the least little thing,’ ‘a whit,’ ‘to the least,’ ‘even the hair upon a date-stone,’ ‘the husk of a date-stone’ and ‘even equal to the extent of a Fatila (a scalish thread in the long slit of a date stone)’
