  اَلَمۡ تَرَ اِلَى الَّذِيۡنَ اُوۡتُوۡا نَصِيۡبًا مِّنَ الۡكِتٰبِ يُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ بِالۡجِبۡتِ وَالطَّاغُوۡتِ وَيَقُوۡلُوۡنَ لِلَّذِيۡنَ كَفَرُوۡا هٰٓؤُلَۤاءِ اَهۡدٰى مِنَ الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا سَبِيۡلًا‏

 

Aa-lum-ta-ra-aiy-lul-la-zee-na-oo-too-na-se-bun-may-nul-kay-taa-bay                                Yoe-may-noo-na-bil-jib-tay-wut-taa-ghoo-tay                                                                              Wa-ya-qoo-loo-na-lil-la-zee-na-ka-fa-roo                                                                                        Haa-o-laa-aiy-ah-daa-may-nul-la-zee-na-aa-ma-noo-sa-be-laa

 

Why don’t you look at those who were given a part of the Book                              Believe in evil things and evil persons                                                                            And say about those who had disbelieved                                                                          “All these are more guided to the right way than those who believed.”

  • أَ — Aa — Why (= Question mark like are, can, have, shall, why or will?)
  • لَمۡ — Lum — Don’t (= Absolutely never; no, not at all)
  • تَرَ — Ta-ra — You look (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Look; observe; ponder; view;   watch; witness. See Note 002:244a)
  • اِلٰٓى — Aiy-la … (ul)  At (= In the direction of; to; towards. In some situations, this   word can also mean for, till or until)
  • ٱلَّذِينَ — Ul-la-zee-na — Those who (= pl., m, 3rd person. Refers to those in masculine gender that include all articles, things, persons or phenomenon)
  • اُوۡتُوا — Oo-too…(l) — Were given (= v., past., passive v., pl., 3rd person. Awarded; bestowed; conferred; entrusted; gifted; granted; made responsible for. Most authors have correctly translated this verb relative to the people who were given the Book, but one author translated it as relative to the Book that  was given)
  • نَصِيۡبًا — Na-see-bun — A part (= n., Less than the whole; portion; section; share. Also, benefit; fortune; recompense; reward)
  • مِّنَ — May-na..(ul) — Of / From (= Among, from or out of the class, category, count, kind or several articles, things, persons or phenomenon)
  • الۡكِتٰبِ — Kay-taa-bay — The Book (= n., s., The holy scriptures. Ref is to the Torah or Bibl.  A/t/a, ‘the Scriptures’ and ‘the scripture’)
  • يُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ — Yoe-may-noo-na — Believe (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Believe. Have faith. A/t/a, ‘put their faith’ and ‘how they believe’)
  • بِ — B…(il) — With (= Literally the word بِ  means with)
  • الۡجِبۡتِ — Jib-tay — Evil things (= n., Events; facts; situations. A/t/a, ‘Sorcery,’ ‘vain things,’ ‘idols,’ ‘false deities,’ ‘nonsensical things devoid of good’ and ‘evil objects’)
  • وَ — Wa…(ut) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but;  also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • لطَّاغُوۡتِ — Taa-ghoo-tay — Evil persons (= n., Bad leaders; evil persons; devils; idol-worshipers; idols. A/t/a, The Satan, ‘evil,’ ‘diviners,’ ‘false gods,’ ‘follow those who transgress,’ ‘those who transgress’ things’ and ‘demons and falsehood’)

  • لِلۡ — L…(il) — About / for (= Concerning, regarding; relative to; intended for; to; towards. A/t/a, ‘of those’ and ‘of’)
  • ٱلَّذِينَ — Ul-la-zee-na — Those who (= pl., m, 3rd person. Refers to those in masculine gender that include all articles, things, persons or phenomenon)
  • كَفَرُوۡا — Ka-fa-roo — Had disbelieved (= v., past, pl., 3rd person. Denied, refused and rejected the Faith and belief in Allah, the Holy Qor-aan, Islam and become Moslem. See more meanings in the Note 002:007. A/t/a, ‘the unbelievers,’ ‘infidels,’ ‘disbelievers,’ ‘those (idolaters) who disbelieve’ and ‘disbelieve’ but that translation as a noun is of what the Holy Qor-aan has described as a verb in the past tense)
  • هٰٓؤُلَآءِ — Haa-o-laa-aiy — All these (= pl., Here; refers to the aforesaid disbelievers)
  • اَهۡدٰى — Ah-daa — Guided more (= Adv., Better, highly, more or rightly guided. A/t/a,  ‘better guided’ and ‘more rightly guided’)
  • مِنَ — May-na…(ul) — Than (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several   things or persons. A/t/a, ‘than’ and ‘as regards’)
  • ٱلَّذِينَ — Ul-la-zee-na — Those who (= pl., m, 3rd person. Refers to those in masculine gender that include all articles, things, persons or phenomenon)
  • اٰمَنُوۡا — Aa-ma-noo — They believed (= v., past., pl.,3rd person. 1. Genuinely, sincerely, totally and wholeheartedly, believed in the Holy Qor-aan and entered the Faith of Islaam. 2. Admitted, affirmed, approved, confirmed, concurred corroborated,      embraced, entered, evidenced, proved, testified and witnessed to have become Moslems. A/t/a, ‘Believers,’ ‘believers (Muslims),’ ‘who believe’ and ‘who believe’ (in Islam)’ are translation as a noun of what the Holy Qor-aan has described in a verb in the past tense)
  • سَبِيۡلًا — Sa-be-laa — Way  (= n., s., Action; alternative; cause, course; escape; line;  means; measure; method; path; pretext; remedy; road; way. See Note 004:089  & Phrase fee-sa-be-lil-laa-hay. A/t/a, ‘in the (right) way,’ ‘as regards the way,’ ‘the path’ and ‘in religion’)

 

** Note 004:052. Our Commentaries lay out reasons why some Translations being sold in the market place actually confuse the readers and thwart their grasping the real message.

Translations With Inaccuracies, With Grammar Violated and with inconsistencies differ from the simple straightforward translation of the Holy Qor-aan that this site differs.

One author who we believe never intended to err yet translated as follow.

The words لَّذِيۡنَ كَفَرُوۡا  mean those who disbelieved but he translated them as follows.                                      — In the verse 004:052 as “the disbelievers”                                                                                      — In the verse 004:057 as “those who disbelieve” 

            The phrase الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا means those who had believed but he translated it as follows.                           — In the verse 004:052 as “those who believe”                                                                                 — In the verse 004:058 as “those who have believed”                                                                     — In the verse 004:060 as “ye who believe” like many authors did.
