The Holy Qor-aan 004:055
اَمۡ يَحۡسُدُوۡنَ النَّاسَ عَلٰى مَاۤ اٰتٰٮهُمُ اللّٰهُ مِنۡ فَضۡلِهٖۚ فَقَدۡ اٰتَيۡنَاۤ اٰلَ اِبۡرٰهِيۡمَ الۡـكِتٰبَ وَالۡحِكۡمَةَ وَاٰتَيۡنٰهُمۡ مُّلۡكًا عَظِيۡمًا
Um-yah-so-do-nun-naa-sa-alaa-maa Aa-ta-ho-mool-laa-ho-min-fudz-lay-he-fa-qud Aa-tai-naa-aa-la-ib-ra-he-mul-kay-taa-ba-wul-hik-ma-ta-wa Aa-tai-naa-hoom-mool-kum-azee-maa
Do they envy people for what Allah had given them from His Benevolence? Then surely We had given Abraham’s family the Book and the Wisdom and We had given them a Kingdom that was the greatest
- اَمۡ — Um — Do (= The word asking a question like do? is? have?’ A/t/a, ‘Or’)
- يَحۡسُدُوۡنَ — Yah-sa-do-na(un) — They envy (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Feel jealousy. A/t/a, ‘are they jealous’ and ‘feel jealous’)
- النَّاسَ — Un-naa-sa — The people (= Factions; folks, mankind, groups, men, nations or tribes. Human beings. A/t/a, ‘mankind,’ ‘others,’ ‘men’ and ‘men (Muhammad s.a.w and his followers)’
- عَلٰى — Alaa — For (= Above; against; before; on top of; over; to; upon)
- مَاۤ — Maa — What (= All that; what; whatever; whatsoever)
- اٰتيٰ — Aa-taa — Had given (= v. past., s., 3rd person. Gave or had given … awarded, bestowed, blessed, conferred, delivered, entrusted, equipped, gifted, granted, handed down, handed over or laid out)
- هُمُ –Ho-mo…(ol) — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person. Refers to aforesaid people)
- اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
- مِنۡ — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several articles, counts, kind, things, persons or phenomenon)
- فَضۡلِ — Fudz-lay — Benevolence (= n., Abundance in bestowing, delivering, giving and showing blessings, benevolence, bounties or goodness. Peace, prosperity and tranquility. A/t/a, ‘bounty,’ ‘bounty and grace,’ generosity, ‘grace’ and Kindness)
- هٖ — He — His (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the Almighty God)
- فَقَدۡ — Fa-qud — Then surely (= Combination of two words. The first word is فَ [fa] meaning after all this, consequently, therefore or thus. The second word is قَدۡ [qud] meaning certainly, surely, definitely or verily. Jointly these words create a very high degree of emphasis. See verse 004:049 and our Commentary titled as the ‘2 Words of Emphasis used together Multiply Effect. A/t/a, ‘but,’ ‘But indeed,’ ‘for,’ ‘If that is so, surely,’ and ‘(Let them remember) We surely’)
- اٰتَيۡ — Aa-tai — Had given (= v. past., 3rd person, Had awarded, etc: see اٰتيٰ above)
- نَآ — Naa — We (= pro., pl., 1st person. Us. Used with God’s name it is the authoritative way a higher-up talks to a subordinate)
- اٰلَ — Aa-la — Nation (= n., Children; clan; descendants; family; followers; genealogy; house; lineage; people; nation; tribe)
- اِبۡرٰهِيۡمَ — Ib-raa-he-ma(l) — Abraham (= The name of a Prophet)
- الۡـكِتٰبَ — Kay-taa-ba — The Book (= n., The holy scripture called Zaboor. A/t/a, ‘scripture,’ ‘Scripture’ and ‘scriptures’)
- وَ — Wa…(ul) — And — (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
- الۡحِكۡمَةَ — Hik-ma-ta — The wisdom (= Ability to distinguish good from bad, right from wrong. Appropriate instruction. Comprehension. Intelligence. Understanding. Shrewdness. Translation of the word الۡحِكۡمَةَ as ‘The knowledge of Islamic laws and jurisprudence’ is supported by the verse 003:066 since Abraham prayed that way many centuries before Islam and thus forecast the advent of Holy Prophet, s.a.w. A/t/a, ‘prophethood,’ ‘Al-Hikmah (As-Sunnah – Divine Revelation to those Prophets not written in the form of a book)’ and ‘wisdom.’ See also our Commentary ‘The Wisdom‘)
- وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ above)

- مُّلۡكًا — Mool-kun — A Kingdom (= n., s., Authority with absolute power; commander; controller; emperor; general; leader; monarch; ruler. Sovereign with unlimited powers and the “Controlling Authority”)
- عَظِيۡمًا — Azee-maa — Greatest (= As a n., the word ells of (a) a person, place, time, condition or situation as good, great, superb, fabulous, fantastic, terrific and wonderful packed with the concepts of awe, might and glory, as well as (b) the opposite thereof in someone or something which is bad and not good. As an adj., or adv., it magnifies the good with translations such as exceedingly, extremely, immensely, incredibly and infinitely, or its opposite the bad with translations such as abjectly, awfully, deplorably, disgustingly, dreadfully, frightfully or terribly, etc. See the Note 003:173a.
