The Holy Qor-aan 004:073
وَاِنَّ مِنۡكُمۡ لَمَنۡ لَّيُبَطِّئَنَّ ۚ فَاِنۡ اَصَابَتۡكُمۡ مُّصِيۡبَةٌ قَالَ قَدۡ اَنۡعَمَ اللّٰهُ عَلَىَّ اِذۡ لَمۡ اَكُنۡ مَّعَهُمۡ شَهِيۡدًا
Wa-inna-min-koom-la-mun La-yo-but-tay-un-na Fa-in-asaa-but-koom-mo-se-ba-toon-qaa-la Qud-un-aa-mul-laa-ho-aa-luy-ya Iz-lum-a-koon-ma-aa-hoom-sha-he-daa
And most certainly among you is He who definitely stays behind. Then if a misfortune struck you, he said, “Certainly Allah conferred blessings on me When I was not present with them.”

A/t/a, ‘loitereth,’ ‘tarries behind,’ ‘tarries behind (and does not leave to fight in the cause of Allah)’ and such translation confirms — as is shown by the other verb قَا لَ and the pronoun اَكُنۡ used in the verse — that the correct one is in the singular, i.e., man. - قَدۡ — Qud — Surely (= Certainly; definitely; indeed; verily. See لَ above)
- اَنۡعَمَ — Un-aa-ma(ul) — He cast blessings (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Bestowed bounties; blessed; conferred favors specially; guided; led to act rightly. A/t/a, ‘bestowed a favour,’ ‘did favour’ and ‘favoured’. But the translation ‘has been gracious’ as a noun is not what the Holy Qor-aan has stated as a verb in the past tense)
