The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                        004:087

 

وَاِذَا حُيِّيۡتُمۡ بِتَحِيَّةٍ فَحَيُّوۡا بِاَحۡسَنَ مِنۡهَاۤ اَوۡ رُدُّوۡهَا‌  ؕ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ كَانَ عَلٰى كُلِّ شَىۡءٍ حَسِيۡبًا‏

 

Wa-ezaa-hoo-ye-toom-bay-ta-he-ya-tin                                                                                            Fa-huy-yoo-bay-ah-sa-na-min-haa-auo-rood-do-haa                                                                  In-nul-laa-ha-kaa-na-alaa-kool-lay-shai-in-ha-se-baa

 

And when you are greeted with a greeting                                                                      Then greet with a better one or return that at least                                                    Surely Allah has always been highly Calculating on every thing

 

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • اِذَا  — Ezaa — When (= Whenever; at the time, event, occasion, opportunity or time. A/t/a, ‘If’)
  • حُيِّيۡ — Hoo-ye — Are greeted (= v., pres., pass., 2nd person. Are greeted; are welcome. A/t/a, ‘a (courteous) greeting is offered’ and ‘a man greets’)
  • تُمۡ — Toom — You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person. You. The Holy Qor-aan states this way when addressing both men and women jointly
  • بِ — Bay — With (= Literally the word بِ  means with)
  • تَحِيَّةٍ — Ta-he-ya-tin — Greeting (= n., Welcome. A/t/a, ‘a (courteous) greeting,’                 ‘greeting,’ ‘salutation’ and ‘a prayer’)
  • فَ — Fa — Then (= At the end; consequently; finally; hence; in conclusion; resultantly; so; thereafter; therefore; thus)
  • حَيُّوۡا — Huy-yoo — Greet (= v., pres., m & f., pl., 2nd person. Greet; Welcome. A/t/a, ‘meet it,’ ‘let your greetings be’ and ‘greet ye’)
  • بِ — Bay — With (= Literally the word بِ  means with)
  • اَحۡسَنُ — Ah-sa-na — Better (= adj., Kinder; lovelier; nicer; prettier. A/t/a, ‘still more courteous,’ ‘better one,’ ‘better,’ ‘better greeting,’ better salutation’ and  ‘better prayer’)
  • مِنۡ — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several. A/t/a, ‘than’)
  • هَا — Haa — It (= pro., s., f., 3rd person., Refers to aforesaid greeting)
  • اَوۡ — Auo — Or (= Alternatively; in substitution. A/t/a, ‘or at least’)
  • رُدُّ وۡ — Rood-doo — Return (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Entrust; refer; surrender; turn over. A/t/a, ‘return,’ ‘(at least) return’ and ‘of equal courtesy’)
  • هَا — Haa — It (= pro., s., f., 3rd person., Refers to aforesaid greetings. A/t/a, ‘the same’ and ‘his greetings’)
  • اِنَّ — In-na — Certainly (= Absolutely; definitely; doubtlessly; indeed; positively;      really; surely; truly; verily. A/t/a, ‘Lo’)
  • ٱللَّهَ —  Laa-ha — Allah is (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
  • كَانَ — Kaa-na — Has always been (= v., past., s., m., 3rd person., Continued doing; used to; were, went on doing. Indicates a continuity from the past to the present and leading into the future. A/t/a, ‘takes’ and ‘keeps’)
  • عَلَى — Alaa — On (= Above; for; of; on; over; upon)
  • كُلِّ — Kool-lay — Every (= All things without exception; entirely; totally; wholly
  • شَىۡءٍ — Shai-in —  Thing (= Article; being; element; item; phenomenon. A/t/a, ‘of all  things’)
  • حَسِيۡبًا‏ — Ha-se-baa — Highly Calculating (= n., Keeper of counting. Recorder of all credits and debits. A/t/a ‘Ever a Careful Account Taker.’ But ‘takes careful account,’  ‘taketh count,’  ‘takes account,’  ‘keeps a watchful count’ and ‘keeps account’are verbs when the Holy Qor-aan has stated this Attribute  of God Almighty which is a noun)
