The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                              004:101

 

 وَمَنۡ يُّهَاجِرۡ فِىۡ سَبِيۡلِ اللّٰهِ يَجِدۡ فِى الۡاَرۡضِ مُرٰغَمًا كَثِيۡرًا وَّسَعَةً‌  ؕ وَمَنۡ يَّخۡرُجۡ مِنۡۢ بَيۡتِهٖ مُهَاجِرًا اِلَى اللّٰهِ وَرَسُوۡلِهٖ ثُمَّ يُدۡرِكۡهُ الۡمَوۡتُ فَقَدۡ وَقَعَ اَجۡرُهٗ عَلَى اللّٰهِ‌  ؕ  وَكَانَ اللّٰهُ غَفُوۡرًا رَّحِيۡمًا

 

Wa-mun-yo-haa-jer-fee-sa-bee-lil-laa-hay-ya-jir-fil-ur-dzay                                                    Mo-raa-gha-mun-ka-the-run-wa-sa-ton.

Wa-mun-yakh-rooj-min-bai-ta-he-mo-haa-jay-run                                                                    Elul-laa-hay-wa-ra-soo-lay-he-thoom-ma-yood-rik-hool-mao-ta                                            Fa-qud-wa-qa-aa-uj-ra-hoo-alul-laa-hay                                                                                        Wa-kaa-nul-laa-ho-gha-foo-rur-ra-he-maa.

 

And whoever migrates in the cause of Allah finds on the earth                              Lot of refuge and humongous means.

And whoever gets out of his home migrating                                                                  For Allah and His messenger and then death reaches him                                      Surely then his reward became due on Allah                                                              And Allah has always been very Forgiving, very Merciful

 

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but;  also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • مَنۡ — Mun — Whoever (= Anyone; whoever; whom; whomever; whoso)
  • يُّهَاجِرۡ — Yo-haa-jir — Migrates (= v., pres., s., 3rd person. To escape from governmental discrimination or public persecution due to ethnicity, politics, religion or any other excuse …. emigrates, immigrates, flees, flies, forsakes, moves from home and hearth, relocates from one jurisdiction to another or suffers deportation or exile from native lands. A/t/a, ‘forsakes his home,’ ‘flees,’ ‘flies his homeland,’ ’emigrates from his country,’ ‘migrateth,’ ’emigrates’ and ’emigrates (from his home)’)
  • فِىۡ — Fee — In (= In; concerning; regarding; in reference; relative to. Also, amidst, during or inside a time, place or event. A/t/a, ‘for’)
  • سَبِيۡلِ — Sa-bee-l..(il) — Cause (= n., Cause, course, direction, highway, line, passage, path, road, route or way. Our Commentary the Phrase fe-sa-be-lil-laa-hay meaning In The Cause Of Allah shows how the Holy Qor-aan qualifies by it certain acts and their doers. Such Repetitions are highly beneficial)
  • اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
  • يَجِد — Ya-jid — He finds (= v., pres., s.,3rd person. Comes upon; discovers; finds; gets; realizes; receives; sees. A/t/a, ‘will find’)
  • فِى — F…(il) — On (= In the instant case stating ‘On earth’ is more appropriate [See Note at 002:028] to convey in English the intent of original text)
  • الۡاَرۡضِ — Ur-dzay — The earth (= Area; country; earth; ground; land; territory. Life on earth; nation, people or society in general)
  • مُرٰغَمًا — Mo-raa-gha-mun — Refuge (= n., Protected area; safe zone; sanctuary; shelter. A/t/a, ‘a place of escape,’ ‘much refuge,’ ‘place of refuge,’ ‘places of refuge’ and ‘dwelling places’)
  • كَثِيۡرًا‌ — Ka-the-run –Lot of (= Adj., Abundant; ample; better quality or quantity; bigger, greater or larger in number; good deal or favor; lot of; great; many; more; much; numerous; plump. Also, the word refers to any multitude, overflowing or repetition of goodness)
  • وَّسَعَةً — Wa-sa-aa-ton — Humongous means (= Adj., Extensive and plentiful means, opportunities, provisions and resources. A/t/a, ‘abundance,’ ‘wide and spacious,’ ‘abundant resources,’ ‘plentifulness,’ ‘plentiful provision,’ ‘plenty of resources,’ ‘plenty to live by’ and ‘sustenance’)    
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • مَنۡ — Mun — Whoever (= Anyone; whoever; whom; whomever; whoso)
  • يَّخۡرُجۡ — Yukh-rooj — Gets out (= v., pres., s., 3rd person. Comes out; departs; emerges;  exists; leaves; moves out; proceeds. A/t/a, ‘goes forth,’ ‘forsaketh,’ ‘sets forth’ and ‘leave’)
  • مِنۡ — Min — From  (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several
  • بَيۡتِ — Baiay — Home (= n., s., Domain; dwelling; house; lodging; residence
  • هٖ — He — His (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Ref to the immigrant or migrant)
  • مُهَاجِرًا  — Mo-haa-jay-run — Migrating (= n., One who becomes a fugitive, emigrates, immigrates, leaves home and hearth to a move to another country or jurisdiction. A/t/a, ‘fleeing,’ ’emigrating,’ ‘migrating,’ ‘a fugitive,’ ‘as an immigrant’ and ‘to fight’)
  • اِلَى — E-lul — To (= In the direction of; for; to; towards. A/t/a, ‘in the cause of’)
  • اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • رَسُوۡلِ — Ra-soo-lay — Messenger (= n., Apostle; prophet; sage; saint)
  • هٖ — He — His (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Ref to the immigrant or migrant)
  • ثُمَّ — Thoom-ma — Then (= After that; further more; subsequently; thereafter)
  • يُدۡرِكۡ — Yood-rik — Reaches (= v., pres., s., 3rd person. Arrives; catches up to; comes across; gets hold of; meets; happens; strikes. A/t/a, ‘overtakes’  and ‘overtaketh.’ But the translation ‘is overtaken by’ in the passive voice is not of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated in the active voice )
  • هُ — Ho…(ol) — His (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Ref to the immigrant or migrant)
  • الۡمَوۡتُ  — (ol) Mao-to — Death (= n., After life has ended; downfall; end of life on earth;  extinction; stupor. Total desolateness, demolition, destruction or ruin. One translation of this and the two prior words is ‘Should he die’)
  • فَ — Fa — Then (= After all this; consequently; finally; hence; resultantly; so; then; thereafter; therefore; thus; yet)
  • قَدۡ — Qud — Surely (= This word lays emphasis. Absolutely; categorically; assuredly; certainly; clearly; definitely; specially; doubtlessly; obviously; for sure; in spite of; positively; specifically; verily; with no doubt whatsoever. See our Commentary titled as 2 Words of Emphasis used together Multiply Effect)
  • وَقَعَ — Wa–qa-aa — Became due (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Fallen due; found; happened; occurred. A/t/a, ‘becomes due,’ ‘becomes due and sure,’ ‘is due,’ ‘is indeed,’  ‘lies on,’ ‘is incumbent’ and ‘shall  have’ are translations as a verb in the present tense of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated it in the past tense)
  • اَجۡرُ — Uj-ro — Reward (= n., s. Award; good result; prize; recognition; trophy)
  • هٗ — Hoo — His (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Ref to the immigrant or migrant)
  • عَلٰى — Ala…(ul) — On (= Above; against; before; during; for; on; over; to; upon)
  • اللّٰهِ         Laa-hay           Allah               (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)

            The next five words also appear in the verse 004:097

  • وَ — Wa  — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ above)
  • كَانَ — Kaa-na — Has been (= v., past., s., m., 3rd person., Continued doing; had been; used to; were, went on doing. Indicates the continuity from the past to the present and leading into the future. The phrase has always been indicates an endless continuation. A/t/a, ‘is’)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • غَفُوۡرًا — Gha-foo-ra(ur) — Very Forgiving (= superlative form indicates the greatest, the highest, the most, and highlights that none more than Him is Who excuses, overlooks and pardons. All Forgiving. Oft-Forgiving. The One Who protects against crimes,  errors, faults, sins and wrongs. A/t/a, ‘Oft-forgiving,’ ‘Ever Oft-Forgiving,’ ‘ever Forgiving’ and ‘Great Protector’)
  • رَّحِيۡمًا — Ra-he-maa — Very Merciful (= superlative form indicates the greatest, the highest, the most, and highlights that none more than Him shows mercy again and again, continually, incessantly and indefinitely like endlessly and perpetually incoming  waves from the oceans. Merciful Forever. A/t/a, ‘Most Merciful,’ Merciful’ and ‘Ever Merciful’)
