The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                  004:102

 

 وَاِذَا ضَرَبۡتُمۡ فِى الۡاَرۡضِ فَلَيۡسَ عَلَيۡكُمۡ جُنَاحٌ اَنۡ تَقۡصُرُوۡا مِنَ الصَّلٰوةِ ‌ۖ   اِنۡ خِفۡتُمۡ اَنۡ يَّفۡتِنَكُمُ الَّذِيۡنَ كَفَرُوۡا‌ ؕ  اِنَّ الۡـكٰفِرِيۡنَ كَانُوۡا لَـكُمۡ عَدُوًّا مُّبِيۡنًا

 

Wa-ezaa-dha-rub-toom-fil-ur-dzay-fa-lai-sa-alai-koom-jo-naa-hoon                                  Un-tuq-so-roo-may-nus-sa-laa-tay                                                                                                    In-khif-toom-un-yuf-tay-na-ko-mool-la-ze-na-ka-fa-roo                                                        In-nul-kaa-fay-re-na-kaa-noo-la-koom-aa-do-won-mo-be-naa

 

And when you have traveled in the world there is no sin is on you                          That you shorten the prayer                                                                                                      If you fear that those who disbelieved will trouble you                                      Certainly the disbelievers have been your obvious enemy 

 

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but;  also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • اِذَا — Ezaa  — When (= At the time, event, occasion or opportunity of)
  •  ضَرَبۡتُمۡ —  Dza-rub-toom —  You have travelled (= v., past., pl., 2nd person. Literally beat, hit or went out. If followed by the phrase فِى الۡاَرۡضِ (fil-ur-dzay) the word means you travelled as stated in Note 003:157.  A/t/a, ‘travel,’ ‘are journeying,’ ‘journey,’ ‘go forth’ and ‘travelling’ but such translations as a verb in the present tense are not of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated it in the past tense)
  • فِى — Fi…(l) — In (= Inside a duration, event, time, place, period, thing or situation. See Note at 002:028. A/t/a, ‘through’)
  • الۡاَرۡضِ — Ur-dzay — World (= Area; country; earth; ground; land; territory. Life on earth; nation, people or society in general. A/t/a, ‘the land’ and ‘the road’)
  • فَ — Fa — Then (= At the end; consequently; finally; hence; in conclusion; so; thereafter; therefore; thus)
  • لَيۡسَ — Lai-sa — No, not (= Absolute denial; never; not at all; total negation. A/t/a, ‘it will be no’)
  • عَلَيۡ — Alai — On (= Above; against; for; on; on top of; over; to; upon)
  • كُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person. You. See  تُمۡ  above)
  • جُنَاحٌ — Jo-naa-hoon — Sin (= n., Blame, inappropriate conduct; crime; harm; illegality; misdeed; offence; prohibition; sin; violation; wrong)
  • اَنۡ — Un — That (= So that)
  • تَقۡصُرُوۡا — Tuq-so-roo — You shorten (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. You abbreviate, abridge, cut, cut short, decrease, minimize, reduce or truncate.  A/t/a, ‘ye shorten your,’ ‘you shorten,’ ‘you to shorten’ and ‘you to curtail (your)’
  • مِنَ — May-na…(us) — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several)
  • الصَّلٰوةِ — Sua-laa-tay — The prayer (= The Commandment for the Moslems to pray Five times Daily. Abjectly and earnestly beseeching, requesting or supplicating in worshiping. Praying with full attention and focused mind. A/t/a, ‘worship’. See our Commentary ISLAM – 104 — 5 Acts of worships or pillars of Islam)
  • اِنۡ — In — If (= In case; under the circumstances; when; when situation arises; whenever)
  • خِفۡ — Khif — Fear (= v., 2nd person. Afraid; apprehend; think; construe; deduce; expect; suspect. A/t/a, ‘fear’ (several authors)
  • تُمۡ — Toom — You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person. You. See تُمۡ above)
  • اَنۡ —  Un — That (= Certainly; surely; verily; that)
  • يَّفۡتِنَ — Yuf-tay-na — Trouble (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Give, cause or try to fight, hurt, harm, persecute or trouble; put to mischief. A/t/a, ‘may attack,’ ‘may put… in trial (attack),’ ‘will give you trouble,’ ‘may put … to trouble,’ ’cause … trouble’ and ‘may give trouble’)
  • كُمُ — Ko-mo(ol) — You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person. You. See  تُمۡ  above)
  • ٱلَّذِينَ — Ul-la-zee-na — Those who (= pl., m, 3rd person. Refers to those in masculine gender that include all articles, things, persons or phenomenon)
  • كَفَرُوۡا — Ka-fa-roo — They disbelieved (= v., past, pl., 3rd person. Denied, refused and rejected the Faith and belief in Allah, the Holy Qor-aan, Islam and become Moslem.  A/t/a ‘disbelieve’ is a translation as a verb in the present tense when the Holy Qor-aan has stated the verb in the past tense. Also, ‘unbelievers’ and ‘disbelievers’ are translations as a noun when the Holy Qor-aan has used the word which is a verb. See our Commentary Believe and Disbelieve)
  • اِنَّ — In-na..(ul) — Certainly (= Absolutely; assuredly; categorically; clearly, decidedly  definitely; doubtlessly; earnestly; for sure; indeed; positively; really; seriously; sincerely; specifically; surely; truly; verily. One translation of this word is ‘In truth’ although the author has translated it as ‘Lo!’ in 004:049 (numbered in his works as 004:048) and several other verses)
  • الۡـكٰفِرِيۡنَ — Kaa-fay-re-na — Disbelievers (= n., The deniers who refused and rejected the Faith and belief in Allah, the Holy Qor-aan and Islam. Those who are not Moslem. Unbelievers. See كَفَرُوۡا  above)
  • كَانُوۡا — Kaa-noo — They have been (= v., past., pl., m., 3rd person., Continued doing; had been used to; were, went on doing. Shows a continuity from the past to the present and leading into the future. A/t/a, ‘are’ and ‘are ever’)
  • لَ — La — For (= Concerning; regarding; relative to; for the object, purpose or reason of; intended for; to; towards. A/t/a,  ‘unto’)
  • كُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person. You. See  تُمۡ  above)
  • عَدُوًّا — Aa-doo-won — An enemy (= n., One with animosity, enmity, grudge or hostility; one who severs a connection between Creator and His creation; people at war)
  • مُّبِيۡنًا‏ — Mo-be-naa — Obvious (= adj., Apparent; clear; evident; flagrant; glaring; gross; lucid; manifest; obvious; open; palpable; patent, unambiguous; unmistakable. A situation that is avowed, cleared, declared, marked or sworn to be without any blemish, hindrance or obstruction which could cloud or fog the view. Also as an adv: clearly; evidently; grossly; manifestly; obviously; openly)
