The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                     004:105

 

  وَلَا تَهِنُوۡا فِى ابۡتِغَآءِ الۡقَوۡمِ‌  ؕ اِنۡ تَكُوۡنُوۡا تَاۡلَمُوۡنَ فَاِنَّهُمۡ يَاۡلَمُوۡنَ كَمَا تَاۡلَمُوۡنَ‌ ۚ   وَتَرۡجُوۡنَ مِنَ اللّٰهِ مَا لَا يَرۡجُوۡنَ‌  ؕ  وَ كَانَ اللّٰهُ عَلِيۡمًا حَكِيۡمًا ‏ 

 

Wa-laa-ta-hay-noo-fib-tay-ghaa-il-qao-may                                                                                  In-ta-koo-no-tau-la-moo-na-fa-in-na-hoom                                                                                  Yau-la-moo-na-ka-maa-tau-la-moo-n                                                                                              Wa-tar-joo-na-may-nul-laa-hay-maa-laa-yur-joo-n                                                                    Wa-kaa-nul-laa-ho-aa-leemun-ha-kee-maa

 

And never get soft in chasing the hostile people                                                              If you have been agonizing then surely they too                                                              Have been agonizing like you have been agonizing                                                      And you expect from Allah what they do not expect                                                    And Allah has always been All-Knowing, All-Wise   

 

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but;  also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • لَا — Laa — Never (= Naught; neither; never; none; no; not at all; absolute denial and total negation without exception. A/t/a, ‘be not’)
  • تَهِنُوۡا — Ta-hay-noo — Get soft (= v., pres., pl.,2nd person. Act fearful. Become awed, daunted, frightened, halfhearted, intimidated or of weak heart. Loose heart or nerves. Overcome by fear. Quail. Show cowardice. Slacken. Slow down. Turn faint. Weaken. A/t/a, ‘slacken,’ ‘be slack,’ ‘weak-hearted,’ ‘be weak,’ ‘relent’ and ‘relentlessly’)
  • فِى — F…(ib) — In (= About; concerning. in reference, regarding, relative to.  See Note at 002:028)
  • ابۡتِغَآءِ — Ib-tay-ghaa-aiy — Chasing (= Aspiring; attempting; desiring; going after; looking for; perverting; pursuing; searching; trying for; wanting and wishing to get. Also, catching, seizing, A/t/a, following, seeking, pursuit, pursuing and ‘seek out’)
  • الۡقَوۡمِ‌ — (il)-Qao-may — People (= n., Nation. Ref is to the enemy or hostile nation. A/t/a,  ‘enemy,’ ‘your enemies,’ ‘those people,’ ‘these people’ and ‘these (hostile) people’)
  • اِنۡ — In — If (= In case; under the circumstances; when; when situation arises; whenever)
  • تَكُوۡنُوۡا — Ta-koo-noo — You have been (= v., past., s., f., 2nd person. Continued doing; had been; used to; were, went on doing. Indicates the continuity from the past to the present and leading into the future. A/t/a, ‘ye are’ and ‘you’)
  • تَاۡلَمُوۡنَ — Tau-la-moo-na — You agonizing (= v., pres., 2nd person. Agonizing. Distressing. Bearing, coming across, experiencing, feeling, finding, putting with, suffering or undergoing some affliction, agony, anguish, difficulty, distress, hardship, harshness, pain or misery. Worrying. A/t/a ‘suffering hardship,’ ‘suffering (hardships),’ ‘suffering,’ ‘suffer,’ ‘suffer in the process.’ But ‘you have suffered hardships’ or ‘suffered’ is a translation in the past tense of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated in the present tense)
  • فَ — Fa — Then (= After all this; at the end; finally; hence; in conclusion; so; thereafter; therefore; thus)
  • اِنَّ — In-na — Certainly (= Absolutely; definitely; doubtlessly; indeed; positively; really surely; truly; verily. A/t/a, ‘Lo!’)
  • هُمۡ‌ –Hoom — They (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person. Those, them, they men; their)
  • يَاۡلَمُوۡنَ — Yau-la-moo-na — They agonize (= v., pres., 3rd person. See  تَاۡلَمُوۡنَ  above. A/t/a, ‘they too suffer,’ ‘they (too) suffer,’ ‘they suffer even as,’ ‘suffering similar pain’ and ‘suffering similar Hardships.’ But ‘they (too) have suffered’ and ‘suffered’ is a translation in the past tense of  what the Holy Qor-aan has stated in the present tense)
  • كَ — Ka — Like (= Identical; resembling; similar to the one stated in prior verse to. Take the example or similitude of. A/t/a, ‘as’)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — All that (= What; whatever; whatsoever)
  • تَاۡلَمُوۡنَ — Tau-la-moo-na — You agonize (= v., pres., 2nd person. See  تَاۡلَمُوۡنَ  above.  A/t/a, ‘ye suffer’ and ‘as you did’)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. A/t/a, ‘but.’ See وَ  above)
  •  تَرۡجُوۡنَ — Tur-joo-na — You expect (= v., pres., 2nd person. Hope; anticipate; assum; believe, deem, desire; expect; fear; look forward to; want; wish. Implies that ‘You see light at the end of the tunnel anticipating good results but the disbelievers have no such hope. A/t/a, hope; ‘ye have Hope,’ ‘you have a hope … (for the reward, i. e., Paradise),’ ‘ye hope,’ ‘but (the superiority you have over them is that) you hope’ and ‘you at least hope to receive’)
  • مِنَ — May-na…(ul) — From (= Among, from or out of the class, category, count, kind    or several articles, things, persons or phenomenon)
  • اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • مَاۤ —  Maa — All that (= What; whatever; whatsoever)
  • لَا — Laa — Not (= Naught; neither; never; none; nor; not at all; absolute denial and total negation without exception)
  • يَرۡجُوۡنَ‌ — Yur-joo-n — They expect (= v., pres., 3rd person. Hoping; anticipating; See  تَرۡجُوۡنَ  above. A/t/a, ‘they Have none,’ ‘hope,’ ‘they do not,’ ‘they have nothing’ and ‘they cannot hope’)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • كَانَ — Kaa-na — Has always been (= v., past., s., m., 3rd person., Continued doing; had  been; used to; went on doing. Indicates the continuity from the past to the present and leading into the future. A/t/a, ‘is’)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
  • عَلِيۡمًا — Alee-mun –All-Knowing (= superlative form indicates the greatest, the highest, the most, and highlights that none more than Him has full awareness, cognizance, information and knowledge. Various translations combine different words to state  God’s finality, mastery and totality of having all info, perfect knowledge and being Cognizant, Mindful, Most  Knowledgeable, Well-Acquainted, Well-Aware. A/t/a, ‘full of knowledge,’ ‘ever Knowing’ and ‘All-Knowing’)
  • حَكِيۡمًا‏ — Ha-ke-maa — All-Wise (= superlative form indicates the greatest, the highest, the most, and highlights that none more than Him is Exalted in wisdom. Best Possessor of wisdom. Extremely shrewd Full of wisdom. The Wisest. A/t/a, ‘Wise’ and ‘All-Wise’)
