The Holy Qor-aan 004:118
اِنۡ يَّدۡعُوۡنَ مِنۡ دُوۡنِهٖۤ اِلَّاۤ اِنٰـثًـا ۚ وَاِنۡ يَّدۡعُوۡنَ اِلَّا شَيۡـطٰنًا مَّرِيۡدًا ۙ
In-yud-oo-na-min-do-nay-he-il-laa-aiy-naa-thaa Wa-in-yud-oo-na-il-laa-shai-taa-num-re-daa
Surely they call on other than Him none except substitutes And surely they call on none except Satan, the Rejected
- اِنۡ — In — Surely (= Absolutely; certainly; definitely; positively; verily)
- يَدۡعُونَ — Yud-oo-na — They call (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Address; beg; beseech; call on or upon; draw attention; invite; invoke; pray. The word in different contexts also means allure; appeal; attract; beckon; charm; exhort; guide; lure; summon; tempt; urge; usher. A/t/a, ‘(The Pagans) leaving Him call upon,’ ‘(Pagans) invoke,’ ‘The pagans pray,’ ‘invoke,’ ‘Whatever they (- the polytheists) call on’ and They (all those who worship others than Allah) invoke’)
- مِنۡ — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several)
- دُوۡنِ — Do-nay — Other than (= Apart from; besides; except; excluding; exclusive of; in preference to; over and beyond; save; to the exclusion of the rest of. A/t/a, ‘in … stead’)
- هٖ — He — Him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the Almighty God)
- اِلَّا — Il-laa — None except (= But; beside; except; excluding; save; unless. A/t/a, ‘none but’)
- اِنٰـثًـا — Aiy-naa-thaa — Substitutes (= n., Literally women but implying things which are of inferior quality, secondary importance or substitutes. A/t/a, ‘female deities, ‘female divines,’ ‘females,’ ‘goddesses,’ ‘lifeless objects (and false deities)’ and ‘lifeless objects)
- وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
- اِنۡ — In — Surely (= Absolutely; certainly; definitely; positively; verily. A/t/a, ‘Infect’)
- يَدۡعُونَ — Yud-oo-na — They call (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Address; beg; beseech; draw attention; invite; invoke; pray. See يَدۡعُونَ above)
- اِلَّا — Il-laa — Besides (= But; besides; except; excluding; save; unless)
- شَيۡـطٰنًا — Shai-taa-nun — Satan (= n., s., A bad, evil or false deity, friend, leader or Satanic companion. The devil. The Evil Embodiment. The evil One. The evil spirited person. The evil personified. Polytheist. Rebellious ringleader. Also, a hypocrite; an idol-worshiper)
- مَّرِيۡدًا — Ma-re-daa — Rejected (= adj., Discarded; repelled; thrown away. A/t/a, ‘The persistent rebel,’ ‘rebellious,’ ‘the rebellious one’ and ‘a rebel’)
