The Holy Qor-aan 004:142
الَّذِيۡنَ يَتَرَ بَّصُوۡنَ بِكُمۡ ۚ فَاِنۡ كَانَ لَـكُمۡ فَتۡحٌ مِّنَ اللّٰهِ قَالُـوۡۤا اَلَمۡ نَـكُنۡ مَّعَكُمۡ ۖ وَاِنۡ كَانَ لِلۡكٰفِرِيۡنَ نَصِيۡبٌۙ قَالُـوۡۤا اَلَمۡ نَسۡتَحۡوِذۡ عَلَيۡكُمۡ وَنَمۡنَعۡكُمۡ مِّنَ الۡمُؤۡمِنِيۡنَ ؕ فَاللّٰهُ يَحۡكُمُ بَيۡنَكُمۡ يَوۡمَ الۡقِيٰمَةِ ؕ وَلَنۡ يَّجۡعَلَ اللّٰهُ لِلۡكٰفِرِيۡنَ عَلَى الۡمُؤۡمِنِيۡنَ سَبِيۡلًا
Ul-la-ze-na-ya-ta-rub-ba-soo-na-bay-koom Fa-in-kaa-na-la-koom-fut-hoom-may-nul-laa-hay Qaa-loo-aa-lum-na-koom-ma-aa-koom
Wa-in-kaa-na-lil-kaa-fay-re-na-na-se-boon Qaa-loo-aa-lum-nus-tah-wiz-alai-koom Wa-num-nau-koom-may-nul-moe-may-ne-na
Ful-laa-ho-yah-ko-mo-bai-na-koom-yao-mul-qay-yaa-ma-tay Wa-lun-yuj-aa-lul-laa-ho-lil-kaa-fay-re-na Aa-lul-moe-may-ne-na-sa-be-laa
Those who stay behind to wait with you So if there had been a win for you from Allah They said, “Have we not been with you?”
And if here had been some part of a win for the disbelievers They said, “Don’t we warn you And forbid you from the Believers”
So Allah will decide among you on the Judgment Day And Allah never makes for the disbelievers A way of success over the Believers.
- ٱلَّذِينَ — Ul-la-zee-na — Those who (= pl., m, 3rd person. Refers to things, persons, places or phenomenon. A/t/a, ‘(These are) the ones who,’ ‘Those (- hypocrites)’ and ‘They’)
- يَتَرَ بَّصُوۡنَ — Ya-ta-rub-ba-soo-na — They wait (= v., pres., pl., m., 3rd person. Dilly dally; drag feet; hold back; keep on waiting; patient and persistent wait; withhold oneself from going out to war when others go; stay back in bad faith; tarry. A/t/a, ‘wait and watch,’ ‘wait (for misfortunes,’ ‘wait upon occasion,’ ‘wait for news,’ ‘await your ruin,’ ‘watch for news,’ ‘who await (news),’ ‘who lie in wait’ and ‘watch … fortunes closely’)
- بِ — Bay — With (= Literally the word بِ means with. A/t/a, ‘about,’ ‘for,’ ‘in regard to,’ ‘concerning,’ ‘of’ and ‘upon’)
- كُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., 2nd person. You all men; your)
- فَ — Fa — Then (= After this; consequently; finally; hence; in conclusion; so; thereafter; therefore; thus. A/t/a, ‘and’)
- اِنۡ — In — If (= In case; under the circumstances; when; when situation arises; whenever)
- كَانَ — Kaa-na — Had been (= v., past., s., m., 3rd person. Continued doing; has been; used to; were, went on doing. Indicates the continuity from the past to the present and leading into the future)
- لَ — La — For (= For the object, person or reason of; intended for; concerning; regarding; relative to. A/t/a, ‘gain,’ ‘have,’ ‘cometh unto,’ ‘granted,’ ‘win,’ ‘comes’ and ‘grants’)
- كُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., 2nd person. You all men. See كُمۡ above)
- فَتۡحٌ — Fut-hoon(m) — Win (= n., Triumph; victory)
- مِّنَ — May-n(ul) — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several. A/t/a, ‘by the grace of’)
- اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
- قَالُـوۡۤا — Qaa-loo — They said (= v., past, pl, 3rd person. Announced; broadcast; called; conveyed; declared; informed; explained; told. A/t/a, ‘say’ and ‘they say’ but these verbs in the present tense are not the translation of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated in the past tense)
- اَ — Aa — Have (= Question mark like Are, Can, Have, Shell or Will?)
- لَمۡ — Lum — Not (= Absolutely never; no, not at all)
- نَـكُنۡ — Na-koon — We have been (= v., past., s., m., 1st person., Continued doing; had been; used to; were, went on doing. See كَانَ above. A/t/a, ‘were we,’ ‘Are we’ and ‘is it … that we were’)
- مَعَ — Ma-aa — Along with (= Along with; in the company of; goes with; after. A/t/a, ‘with … (and on your side)’ and ‘Did we … stand on your side?’)

- نَصِيۡبٌۙ — Na-se-boon — A part (= n., Less than the whole; part; portion; section; share. Also, benefit; fortune; recompense; reward. A/t/a, ‘A success,’ ‘chance,’ ‘a share of it,’ ‘portion of luck,’ ‘have an advantage over you’ and ‘are victorious’)
- قَالُـوۡۤا — Qaa-loo — They said (= Announced; called; conveyed; told. See قَالُـوۡۤا above.
- A/t/a, ‘they will say,’ ‘they say to them’ and ‘they say (to them)’
- اَ — Aa — Do (= Question mark like Are, Can, Have, Shell or Will? A/t/a, ‘Had … did’ and ‘Did’)

- نَسۡتَحۡوِذۡ — Nus-tah-wiz — We warn (= v., pres., pl., 1st person. Overcome, overpower, reign, succeed, triumph or win which mean to caution, give warning or forewarn another. A/t/a, ‘gain an advantage,’ ‘prevail,’ ‘we .. get the better of you.’ But ‘Had we … the mastery of,’ Did we … get the better of you on a previous occasion,’ ‘Did we … on a previous occasion get the better of you,’ ‘Did we … goad you to wage war,’ ‘Were we … mightier than you,’ ‘Did we … cover’ and ‘Did we … gain mastery’ in the past tense is no translation of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated in the present tense)

- نَمۡنَعۡ — Num-nau — Forbid (= v., pres., s., m., 3rd person. Check; stop. A/t/a, ‘guard,’ ‘defend,’ ‘protect,’ ‘save,’ ‘did we not protect you from the believers?’ and ‘did we not save you from the harm of the faithful?)

- الۡمُؤۡمِنِيۡنَ — Moe-may-ne-na –The believers (= n,. Adherents of Islam; those who enter the Faith, believe and follow the Holy Qor-aan, the Islaam and become Moslems. Men of faith. The faithful. See Commentary Believe and Disbeliev)

- يَوۡم — Yao-m…(ul) — Day (= s., A period, term or time that ends; juncture)
- الۡقِيٰمَةِ — Qay-yaa-ma-tay — Judgment (= n., Something that will take place = Reckoning, Resurrection or Ultimate settlement)

- لَنۡ — Lunn — Never (= Absolute denial; no; not; not at all; total negation. A/t/a, ‘by no means,’ ‘will not’ and ‘never will’)
