The Holy Qor-aan 004:145
يٰۤـاَيُّهَا الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا لَا تَتَّخِذُوا الۡكٰفِرِيۡنَ اَوۡلِيَآءَ مِنۡ دُوۡنِ الۡمُؤۡمِنِيۡنَ ؕ اَ تُرِيۡدُوۡنَ اَنۡ تَجۡعَلُوۡا لِلّٰهِ عَلَيۡكُمۡ سُلۡطٰنًا مُّبِيۡنًا
Yaa-auy-yo-hul-la-zee-na-aa-ma-noo Laa-tut-ta-khay-zoo-nul-kaa-fay-re-na Auo-lay-yaa-aa-min-do-nil-moe-may-ne-na Aa-to-re-do-na-un-tuj-aa-loo-lil-laa-hay Alai-koom-sool-ta-num-mo-be-naa
Listen, you all who have believed! Do not take the disbelievers As friends from other than (= in preference to) the Believers Do you want that you make Allah An obvious authority on you to punish
The Holy Qor-aan has used the Phrase Yaa-auy-yo-hul-la-zee-na-aa-ma-noo many times
- يٰۤ — Yaa — Listen (= Be attentive; hearken; pay attention; O!)
- اَيُّهَا — Auy-yo-ha(ul) — You all (= All addressees; entire audience; whole lot of listeners)
- ٱلَّذِينَ — Ul-la-zee-na — Those who (= pl., m, 3rd person. Those articles, things or persons
- اٰمَنُوۡۤ — Aa-ma-noo — They Believed (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Believed in the Holy Qor-aan; became Moslems. Accepted, acknowledged, admitted or witnessed their entry in Iss-laam. - لَا — Laa — Do not (= Naught; neither; never; none; nor; not at all; absolute denial and total negation without exception)
- تَتَّخِذُوا — Tut-ta-khay-zoo — You take (= v., pl, m., pl., 2nd person., Adopt; bring in; catch; choose; consider; construe; make part and parcel; take; treat. Also, in different context this word can mean enforce; involve; make; put; seize)
— The phrase الۡكٰفِرِيۡنَ اَوۡلِيَآءَ مِنۡ دُوۡنِ الۡمُؤۡمِنِيۡنَ is repeated in 004:140 and 004:145 —
- الۡكٰفِرِيۡنَ — Kaa-fay-re-na — Disbelievers (= n., pl., Ungrateful. See Commentary Believe and Disbelieve. A/t/a, ‘Unbelievers’)
- أَوۡلِيَآءَ — Auo-lay-yaa-aa — Friends (= n., pl., Intimate, protective, sincere, real or true friends. Aides; guardians; helpers; minions; patrons; protectors; supporters; well-wishers. Those who heed if a friend is in need. A/t/a, ‘Allies’ and ‘(protectors or helpers or friends)’
- مِنۡ دُوۡنِ — Min-do-n(il) — From other than (= Combination of two words. The first word مِنۡ (min) means among, from or out of the class or category of several articles, counts, kinds, things or person. The second word دُوۡنِ (do-nay) means besides, beyond, except, excluding or save. Jointly the two words mean apart from, exclusive of, other than, instead of or in preference to. - سُلۡطٰنًا — Sool-ta-nun — Authority (= n., Allowance; authorization; decree; justification, plan; permission; power; proof; reason that is convincing; sanction; warrant.
