The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                       004:162

 

وَّاَخۡذِهِمُ الرِّبٰوا وَقَدۡ نُهُوۡا عَنۡهُ وَاَكۡلِـهِمۡ اَمۡوَالَ النَّاسِ بِالۡبَاطِلِ‌ ؕ  وَاَعۡتَدۡنَـا لِلۡـكٰفِرِيۡنَ مِنۡهُمۡ عَذَابًا اَ لِيۡمًا

 

Wa-ukh-zay-hay-moor-ray-baa-wa-qud-no-hoo-un-ho                                                        Wa-uk-lay-him-um-waa-lun-naa-say-bil-baa-tay-lay                                                             Wa-aau-tud-naa-lil-kaa-fay-re-na-min-hoom-azaa-bun-alee-maa

 

And their levy of interest and surely they were stopped from it                                And their ingestion of property of other people with false means.                          And We have prepared for the disbelievers among them a painful punishment

 

Verses 004:161 and 004:162 together read as follows

So because of the wrongdoing of those who once were guided                            And their obstruction of many from the cause of Allah                                              And their levy of interest and surely they were stopped from it                              And their ingestion of wealth of other people with false means                              We prohibited them the clean foods they were allowed since before.                And We have prepared for the disbelievers among them a painful punishment

 

  • وَّ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet. A/t/a, ‘And because of’  and ‘(also on account of)’
  • اَخۡذِ — Ukh-zay — Levy (= n., Charging; getting; grabbing; imposing; taking; taxing.        A/t/a, ‘making’ and ‘they practise’ but such translation as a verb is not of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated as a noun)
  • هِمُ — Hay-mo(or) — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person. Those men; they; their)
  • الرِّبٰوا — Ray-baa — Interest (= n., Interest; Usury; rent for money loaned. See also Note 002:276 and our Commentary tiled as the Usury. A/t/a, ‘interest and usury’)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above. A/t/a, ‘although’ and ‘though’)
  • قَدۡ — Qud — Surely (= This word lays emphasis as by absolutely, assuredly,  categorically, certainly, clearly, definitely, doubtlessly, for sure, obviously, positively, specially, specifically, surely, verily or with no doubt whatsoever)
  • نُهُوۡا –No-hoo — Stopped (= v., past., pass., pl., 3rd person. Forbidden; prohibited; restricted; stopped)
  • عَنۡ — Un — From (= About; concerning; regarding; relative to)
  • هُ — Ho — It (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to interest. A/t/a, ‘taking it’)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. A/t/a, ‘and because of’  and ‘that.’ See وَ  above)
  • اَكۡلِ — Uk-lay — Ingestion (= n., Consumption; devouring; eating up; ingestion; misappropriating; usurping. A/t/a, ‘they devoured’ and ‘cheat others’ but such translation as a verb is not of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated as a noun)
  • هِمۡ — Him –Their (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person. Those men; they; their)
  • اَمۡوَالَ — Um-waa-l(un) — Wealth (= n., pl., Affluence; assets; goods; money; property;  possessions; riches; wealth; resources; valuables; Ostensible means and signs of all above. Also, Contacts, influences, resources and valuables. A/t/a, ‘belongings’ and ‘substance.’ See also Note 002:262)
  • النَّاسِ — Un-naa-say — The people (= Factions; folks, mankind, groups of men, nations or tribes. Human beings. A/t/a, ‘men’s’)
  • بِ — B(il) — With (= Literally the word بِ  means with)
  • الۡبَاطِلِ — Baa-tay-lay — False means (= Crooked ways; deception; deceit; falsehood; false  pretenses; misrepresentations. Incorrect info or statement; illusion; lies. A/t/a, falsely,’ ‘wrongfully,’ ‘wrongfully (bribery),’ ‘in falsehood’ and ‘cheat’)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • اَعۡتَدۡ — Aau-tud — Have prepared (= v., past., 1st person. Arranged; got ready; organized;  primed; readied; set up. A/t/a, ‘have prepared’)
  • نَآ — Naa — We (= pro., m & g., pl., 1st person. Our; We; Us. Also, used with God’s name it is the authoritative way a higher-up talks to a subordinate)
  • لِلۡ — L…(il) — For (= Concerning, regarding; relative to; intended for; to; towards)
  •  كٰفِرِيۡنَ — Kaa-fay-re-na — Disbelievers (= n., pl., Disbelievers; Those who refuse to believe in Allah, the Holy Qor-aan, Islam or become Moslem. Heretics. Infidels. Thankless. Unappreciative. Unbelievers. Ungrateful. A/t/a, ‘who disbelieve’ and ‘that disbelieve.’ See Commentary Believe and Disbelieve)
  • مِنۡ — Min  — From among (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several articles, counts, kind, things, persons or phenomenon.                                                           A/t/a, ‘among’ and ‘those of them’)
  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person. Those men, they or their)

The Warning about Punishment in next two words is also given for misdeeds named in  verses  002:011002:175003:078003:092003:178 and many others.

  • عَذَابًا — Azaa-bun — Punishment (= Appropriate, due and fair agony, chastisement, doom, hard task, penalty, punishment,  recompense, torment, torture or scourge)
  • اَ لِيۡمًا —  Alee-maa — Painful (= adj., Grievous; painful; severe; stern; woeful; stern)
