The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                       004:145

 

يٰۤـاَيُّهَا الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا لَا تَتَّخِذُوا الۡكٰفِرِيۡنَ اَوۡلِيَآءَ مِنۡ دُوۡنِ الۡمُؤۡمِنِيۡنَ‌ ؕ اَ تُرِيۡدُوۡنَ اَنۡ تَجۡعَلُوۡا لِلّٰهِ عَلَيۡكُمۡ سُلۡطٰنًا مُّبِيۡنًا

 

Yaa-auy-yo-hul-la-zee-na-aa-ma-noo                                                                                            Laa-tut-ta-khay-zoo-nul-kaa-fay-re-na                                                                                             Auo-lay-yaa-aa-min-do-nil-moe-may-ne-na                                                                                   Aa-to-re-do-na-un-tuj-aa-loo-lil-laa-hay                                                                                          Alai-koom-sool-ta-num-mo-be-naa

 

Listen, you all who have believed!                                                                                          Do not take the disbelievers                                                                                                    As friends from other than (= in preference to) the Believers                                    Do you want that you make Allah                                                                                          An obvious authority on you to punish

 

The Holy Qor-aan has used the Phrase Yaa-auy-yo-hul-la-zee-na-aa-ma-noo many times

  • يٰۤ — Yaa — Listen (= Be attentive; hearken; pay attention; O!)
  • اَيُّهَا — Auy-yo-ha(ul) — You all (= All addressees; entire audience; whole lot of listeners)
  • ٱلَّذِينَ — Ul-la-zee-na — Those who (= pl., m, 3rd person. Those articles, things or persons
  • اٰمَنُوۡۤ — Aa-ma-noo — They Believed (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Believed in the Holy Qor-aan; became Moslems. Accepted, acknowledged, admitted or witnessed their entry in Iss-laam.   • لَا — Laa — Do not (= Naught; neither; never; none; nor; not at all; absolute denial and total negation without exception)
  • تَتَّخِذُوا — Tut-ta-khay-zoo — You take (= v., pl, m., pl., 2nd person., Adopt; bring in; catch; choose; consider; construe; make part and parcel; take; treat. Also, in different context this word can mean enforce; involve; make; put; seize)

— The phrase  الۡكٰفِرِيۡنَ اَوۡلِيَآءَ مِنۡ دُوۡنِ الۡمُؤۡمِنِيۡنَ‌ is repeated in 004:140 and 004:145 —

  • الۡكٰفِرِيۡنَ — Kaa-fay-re-na — Disbelievers (= n., pl., Ungrateful. See Commentary Believe and Disbelieve. A/t/a, ‘Unbelievers’)
  • أَوۡلِيَآءَ — Auo-lay-yaa-aa — Friends (= n., pl., Intimate, protective, sincere, real or true friends. Aides; guardians; helpers; minions; patrons; protectors; supporters; well-wishers.  Those who heed if a friend is in need. A/t/a, ‘Allies’ and ‘(protectors or helpers or friends)’
  • مِنۡ دُوۡنِ —  Min-do-n(il) — From other than (= Combination of two words. The first word مِنۡ (min) means among, from or out of the class or category of several articles, counts, kinds, things or person. The second word دُوۡنِ (do-nay) means besides, beyond, except, excluding or save. Jointly the two words mean apart from, exclusive of, other than, instead of or in preference to. A/t/a, ‘rather than’ and ‘to the exclusion of’)
  • الۡمُؤۡمِنِيۡنَ‌ —  Moe-may-ne-na — The believers (= n,. Adherents of Islam; those who enter the Faith, believe and follow the Holy Qor-aan, the Islaam and become Moslems. Men of faith. The faithful. See Commentary Believers and Disbelievers. A/t/a, ‘faithful’)
  • اَ   — Aa  — Do (= Question mark like  Are, Can, Have, Shell or Will?)
  • تُرِيۡدُوۡنَ  To-re-do-na — You want (= v., Aspire; desire; like; love; want; will; wish. A/t/a ‘mean to’ and ‘Would you’)
  • اَنۡ — Un — That (= So that)
  • تَجۡعَلُوۡا — Tuj-a-loo — You make (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Appoint; create; make; place; produce; turn out; set up. See Note 002:031. A/t/a, ‘offer,’ ‘give’ and ‘provide’)
  • لِلۡ  — L…(il)  — For / to (= Concerning, regarding; relative to; intended for; to)
  • لِلّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • عَلَيۡ — Alai  — On (= Above; against; before; during; for;  on; on top of; over; to; upon)
  • كُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person., You. A/t/a, ‘yourself’)

The combination of following two words is also in 004:092, 004:145, and 004:154

  • سُلۡطٰنًا — Sool-ta-nun — Authority (= n., Allowance; authorization; decree; justification, plan; permission; power; proof; reason that is convincing; sanction; warrant. In an appropriate context the word can also mean a king, monarch or a mighty, irrefutable and powerful argument or support. A/t/a, ‘plea’)
  • مُّبِيۡنًا‏ — Mo-bee-na — Obvious (= adj., Apparent; clear; evident; flagrant; glaring; gross; lucid; manifest; obvious; open; palpable; patent, unambiguous; unmistakable. A situation that is avowed, cleared, declared, marked or sworn to be without any blemish, hindrance or obstruction which could cloud or fog the view.
