The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                      005:008

 

وَاذْکُرُوْ انِعْمَةَ اللهِ عَلَیْکُمْ وَمِیْثَاقَهُ الَّذِیْ وَاثَقَکُمْ بِه ۙ اِذْقُلْتُمْ سَمِعْنَا وَاَطَعْنَا وَاتَّقُوا اللهَ ؕ اِنَّ اللهَ عَلِیْمٌۢ بِذَاتِ الصُّدُوْرِ‏

 

Wuz-ko-roo-nae-ma-tul-laa-hay-alai-koom-wa                                                                              Me-thaa-qua-hool-la-ze-waa-tha-qua-koom-bay-he                                                                    Iz-qool-toom-sa-mae-naa-wa-aa-tau-naa-wut-ta-qool-laa-ha                                                  In-nul-laa-ha-alee-moomb-bay-zaa-tis-so-doo-r.

 

And remember the blessing of Allah upon and                                                          The Pledge that which He tied you down with                                                                  When you said, “We heard and we obeyed.” And fear Allah.                                      Indeed Allah is the Knower of what is in the hearts.

 

The set-up in next six (6) words is in verses like 002:232, 003:104 and 005:008, etc.

  • وَ — Wa…(uz) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet; whereupon)
  • اذۡكُرُوۡا — Uzko-roo — Remember (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Attend to; bear in mind; keep in mind; pay attention; think of. See Note 002:153. A/t/a, ‘call to mind,’ ‘call in remembrance’ and ‘(O Muslims!) Remember’)
  • نِعْمَةَ — Nae-ma-ta..(ul) — Blessing (= n., s., Special gift, favor or reward. See Note 002:212. A/t/a, ‘favour,’ ‘the Blessing’ and ‘favours’)
  • اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
  • عَلَيۡ — Alai — On (= Above; against; before; during; for; on top of; over; to. A/t/a, ‘Unto,’ upon,’ ‘has bestowed upon’ and ‘upon … (in the form of Qur’an)’
  • كُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person., You all men. Generally this is the  way the Holy Qor-aan addresses men and women)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses.  See وَ   above)
  • مِیْثَاقَ — Me-thaa-qua — Pledge (= n., An arrangement, assurance, promise or undertaking made unilaterally (by-one-side) vouching that its maker will always honor it. For an arrangement or agreement between 2-or-more-parties, see Note 003:188. A/t/a, ‘(to abide by its teachings) … covenant’)
  • هُ — Ho — That (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. It; that. Refers to the Pledge)
  • الَّذِىۡ — La-zee — Which (= s., m., 3rd person article, thing or person; he; who. A/t/a, ‘with which’ and ‘which’)
  • وَاثَقَ — Waa-tha-qua — He tied down (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Bound, committed, firmed up, pledged or promised arrangement. Made, announced, approved, committed, declared, finalized, proclaimed, ratified, solemnized or strengthened pledge. A/t/a, ‘He bound,’ ‘made,’ ‘has bound you,’ ‘He bound you’ and ‘your commitment to worship Him alone’)
  • كُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person., You all. See  كُمۡ  above)
  • بِ — Bay — With (= Literally the word بِ  means with)
  • هٖ — He — It (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. It; that. Refers to the Pledge)
  • اِذۡ — Iz — When (= At the time or event; call to mind; consider; ponder. Recall, reflect or remember the time, place or occasion. When)
  • قُلۡ — Qool — Said (= v., past., s, 2nd person. Announced, broadcast; called; conveyed; informed; maintained; proclaimed; said; specified, stated; told. See Commentary ‘You say’ means)
  • تُمۡ — Toom — You (= pro., pl., 2nd person. You all. See  كُمۡ  above) )

The construction of next five (5) words is in verses 002:286, 004:047 and 005:008

  • سَمِعۡ — Sa-mae — Heard (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Attended; hearkened; listened; paid attention. A/t/a, ‘heard’ and ‘have heard.’ But ‘hear’ and ‘We hear (your commandments)’ as a verb in the present tense is no translation of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated in the past tense)
  • نَآ — Naa — We (= pro., pl., m & f., 1st person. We / us)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • اَطَعۡ — Aa-tau — Obeyed (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Carried out the instructions, followed the directions and did as bid. A/t/a, ‘obey’ and ‘shall obey’ in the present or future tenses is not a translation of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated it in the past tense)
  • نَآ — Naa — We (= pro., pl., m & f., 1st person. We / us)

The Holy Qor-aan has used the Phrase Wut-ta-qool-laa-ha … in many contexts

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses.  See وَ   above)
  • اتَّقُوا — Tuq-qoo…(l) — You love (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. See our Commentary titled as The Righteous for the reasons of our translation. A/t/a, ‘keep your duty to,’ ‘fear,’ ‘be mindful of your duty to Allah,’ ‘take Allah as the shield’ and Have fear of Allah’)
  • ٱللَّهَ — Laa-ha — Allah (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)

The next Six (6) words mark the end of verses 003:120 and 005:008

  • اِنَّ — In-na…(ul) — Indeed (= Absolutely; certainly definitely; doubtlessly; earnestly; positively; really; seriously; surely; truly; verily. A/t/a, ‘Lo!)’
  • اللّٰهَ — Laa-ha — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)

{The next four words end the verses 003:120, 003:155005:008, 064:005, etc}

  • عَلِيۡمٌ‏ — Alee-moo … (nb) — The Knower (= superlative form indicates the greatest, the highest, the most, and highlights that none more than Him knows. The most Knowing. Informed to the maximum. Has  total and perfect knowledge. Has nothing out of sight.  Nothing whatever is beyond or out of His knowing A/t/a, ‘knoweth’ ‘knows’ and ‘knows well’ as a verb in the present tense is no translation of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated it in the past tense)
  • بِ — Bay — Within (= Literally the word  بِ  means ‘with’. A/t/a, ‘that which is in’
  • ذَاتِ  — Zaa-tay…(is) — Of (=  n., In re Allah … Controller. Giver. Master. Occupant. Owner. Possessor. See Note 003:120. A/t/a, ‘of … (the secrets of your),’ ‘of what,’  ‘what,’ ‘what is,’ ‘all that is,’ ‘inmost depths of,’ ‘inmost thoughts’ and ‘thoughts in’)
  • الصُّدُوۡرِ — So-door — The hearts (= n., pl., Bosoms; breasts; chests; hearts; minds; hidden thoughts locked in human breasts; minds souls. A/t/a, ‘breasts (of men),’ ‘breasts,’ ‘your minds,’ ‘minds’ and ‘the chests’)
