The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                   005:020

 

يٰۤـاَهۡلَ الۡـكِتٰبِ قَدۡ جَآءَكُمۡ رَسُوۡلُـنَا يُبَيِّنُ لَـكُمۡ عَلٰى فَتۡرَةٍ مِّنَ الرُّسُلِ اَنۡ تَقُوۡلُوۡا مَا جَآءَنَا مِنۡۢ بَشِيۡرٍ وَّلَا نَذِيۡرٍ‌ فَقَدۡ جَآءَكُمۡ بَشِيۡرٌ وَّنَذِيۡرٌ ‌ؕ وَاللّٰهُ عَلٰى كُلِّ شَىۡءٍ قَدِيۡرٌ

 

Yaa-ah-lul-kay-taa-bay-qud-jaa-aa-koom-ra-soo-lo-naa                                                          Yo-buy-ya-na-la-koom-alaa-fut-ra-tin-may-nur-ra-soo-lay                                                       Un-ta-qoo-loo-maa-jaa-aa-naa-mim-ba-she-rin-wa-laa-na-zee-r                                            Fa-qud-jaa-aa-koom-ba-she-roon-wa-na-zee-r                                                                              Wul-la-ho-alaa-kool-lay-shai-in-qa-dee-r 

 

Listen! people of the Book, Surely Our Messenger came to you                            Explaining to you the gap among Messengers                                                                  Lest you say, “No bearer of good news or warning came to us.”                            Surely the bearer of good news and warning has come to you.                                  And Allah is in full control of everything.

 

  • يٰۤ — Yaa — Listen (= Be attentive; hearken; pay attention; O!)
  • اَهۡلَ — Ah-lul — People (= Of; masters; owners; possessors)
  • الۡكِتٰبِ — Kay-taa-bay — Book (= Scripture; former books revealed to the Messengers. A/t/a, ‘earlier Scripture’ and ‘(Jews and Christians)’
  • قَدۡ — Qud — Surely (= This word lays emphasis like very definitely; indeed. See Note 004:049 and our Commentary titled the ‘2 Words of Emphasis used together Multiply Effect’)
  • جَآءَ — Jaa-aa — Came (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Arrived; reached; returned. Also, in different contexts the word can mean achieved, brought, delivered, settled or succeeded. A/t/a, ‘hath come,‘ ‘there indeed has come,’ ‘there has come,’ ‘there has  already come,’ ‘indeed … has com,’ ‘has come’ and ‘Now has come’)  
  • كُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person., You. The Holy Qor-aan states  that way when addressing both men and women jointly
  • رَسُوۡلُ — Ra-soo-lo — Messenger (= n., s., Apostle; God’s messenger; prophet; sage; saint. A/t/a, ‘Messenger (Muhammad s.a.w)’
  • نَآ — Naa — Our (= pro., m/ g., pl., 1st person. Our. Ref to God Almighty)
  • يُبَيِّنُ — Yo-buy-yay-no — Explaining (= v., pres., s., m., 3rd person. Clarifies; clearly states; elaborates; espouses; expounds; informs; makes things crystal clear, obvious, plain and known well. A/t/a, ‘makes things clear,’ ‘making clear,’ ‘making (things) clear,’ ‘explaining,’ ‘to make things plain’ and ‘to reveal’)
  • لَ — La — For (= For the object, person or reason of; intended or meant for; concerning; relative to. A/t/a, ‘unto’)
  • كُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., 2nd person. You all . See كُمۡ above)
  • عَلٰى — Alaa — Concerning (= For; to. Also concerning; regarding; relative to. Above; against; on; over; to; upon.  A/t/a, ‘after’)
  • فَتۡرَةٍ — Fa-ta-ra-tin — Gap (= n., Break; gap; interval.. A/t/a ‘break,’ ‘cessation,’ ‘an interval (of cessation),’ ‘a break in the succession,’ ‘a break in the series,‘ ‘a period of time since previous’ and ‘an interval during which there were no’)
  • مِّنَ — May-na … (ur) — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several
  • الرُّسُلِ — Ro-so-lay — Messengers (=  n., pl., Apostles; God’s messengers. See رَسُوۡلٌ above)
  • اَنۡ — Un — That (= So that. A/t/a, ‘lest’)
  • تَقُوۡلُوۡا — Ta-qoo-loo — You say (= v., pres., s, 2nd person. Announce, argue; call; claim, convey; insist; maintain, propagate; require; state; tell. A/t/a, ‘ye should say,’ ‘you should say’ and ‘you say.’ See Commentary ‘You say’ means’)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — No (= Absolutely not; no; never)
  • جَآءَ — Jaa-aa — Came (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Arrived; reached; returned. See جَآءَ  above. A/t/a, ‘came to,’ ‘there has … come’ and ‘has come’)
  • نَآ — Naa — Us (= pro., m & g., pl., 1st person. Our. Aforesaid persons)
  • مِنۡ — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several articles, counts, kind, things, persons or phenomenon)
  • بَشِيۡرٍ — Ba-she-rin — Carrier of good news (= n., One who bears, brings, carrier or proclaims a glad tiding, good news or the Truth. A/t/a, ‘bringer of glad tidings,’ ‘bearer of glad tiding,’ ‘a messenger of cheer,’ ‘Bearer of good tidings’ and ‘to give us good news’)
  • وَّ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • لَا — Laa —  No (= Naught; neither; never; none; nor; not at all; absolute denial and total negation without exception. A/t/a, ‘nor’)
  • نَذِيۡرٍ‌ — Na-zee-rin — Carrier of warning (= n., One who bears, brings, carries or proclaims a warning. A/t/a, ‘warner (from evil),’ ‘warner’ and ‘to warn us’)  
  • قَدۡ — Qud — Surely (= This word lays emphasis. See قَدۡ  above) 
  • جَآءَ — Jaa-aa — Came (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Arrived; reached. See جَآءَ above)
  • كُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person., You. See كُمۡ above)
  • بَشِيۡرٌ — Ba-she-roo-n — Carrier of good news (= Bearer, bringer or carrier or one who proclaims a glad tiding, good news or the Truth. See  بَشِيۡرٍ  above)
  • وَّ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَّ  above)
  • نَذِيۡرٌ — Na-zee-roon    Carrier of warning (= n., One who warns See نَذِيۡرٍ‌ above)
  • وَ — Wa…(ul) — And (= The وَ  vaao is tantamount to taking oath; solemn declaration or calling as a witness. See also وَ  above)

The Holy Qor-aan has frequently stated the truth in the next five words. See Note 002:021

  • ٱللَّهَ — Laa-ha — Allah is (= The Almighty God; The only One worthy of worship)
  • عَلَى — Alaa —  Of / on (= Above; for; of; on; over; upon)
  • كُلِّ — Kool-lay — Every (= All things without exception; entirely; totally; wholly)
  • شَىۡءٍ — Shai-in — Thing (= Article; being; element; item; phenomenon. A/t/a, ‘things’)
  • قَدِيۡرٌ  — Qa-dee-r — In full control (= superlative form that includes the meanings of ‘fullness and totality of control.‘  Controller.  Has the absolute power to do what He wills.  Master and possessor of all powers). A/t/a, ‘hath power over,’ has power,’ ‘Possessor of power,’ ‘able to do,’ ‘Able to do,’ ‘has full power,’  ‘power’ and ‘Possessor of full Power to do all that He will’)
