قَالَ رَجُلٰنِ مِنَ الَّذِيۡنَ يَخَافُوۡنَ اَنۡعَمَ اللّٰهُ عَلَيۡهِمَا ادۡخُلُوۡا عَلَيۡهِمُ الۡبَابَ‌ ۚ  فَاِذَا دَخَلۡتُمُوۡهُ فَاِنَّكُمۡ غٰلِبُوۡنَ‌ ۚ وَعَلَى اللّٰهِ فَتَوَكَّلُوۡۤا اِنۡ كُنۡتُمۡ مُّؤۡمِنِيۡنَ‏

 

Qaa-la-ra-jo-laa-nay-may-nul-la-ze-na                                                                                            Ya-khaa-foo-na-un-aa-mul-laa-ho-alai-hay-maa                                                                          Ud-kho-loo-alai-hay-mool-baa-ba                                                                                                    Fa-ezaa-da-khul-to-moo-ho-fa-in-na-koom-ghaa-lay-boon                                                        Wa-alul-laa-hay-fa-ta-wuk-ka-loo-in-koon-toom-moe-may-nee-n

 

Said the two men among those who                                                                                Fear Allah who had conferred blessings upon them both,                                   “You enter on them by the Gate.                                                                                        So when you have entered it, then you surely will be the subjugators                  And on Allah then you put faith if you have been believers.” 

           

  • قَالَ — Qaa-la Said (= v., past., s, 3rd person. Stated; told. Also, announced, called; conveyed; declared; informed; instructed; proclaimed. See Note 002:121 and Commentary ‘You say’ means‘. A/t/a, ‘then outspake’ and ‘Thereupon … said’)
  • رَجُلٰنِ — Ra-jo-laa-nay — Two men (= n., 2pl., Two male human beings. A/t/a, ‘(- Joshua and Caleb)’ and (they were Yusha and Kalab)’
  • مِنَ — May-na … (ul) — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several. A/t/a, ‘from among’)
  • ٱلَّذِينَ — Ul-la-zee-na — Those who (= pl., m, 3rd person. Refers to those articles, persons, or phenomenon or things in masculine gender)      
  • يَخَافُوۡنَ — Ya-khaa-foo-na — They fear (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person., Afraid; fear. A/t/a, ‘(their) God-fearing men,’ ‘God-fearing men,’ ‘who feared,’ ‘those who feared (their Lord, men),’ ‘those who feared their lord,’ ‘those who feared Allah’ and ‘who feared God’)
  • اَنۡعَمَ — Un-aa-ma … (ul) — He conferred blessings (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Bestowed bounties; blessed; conferred favors specially; delighted; favored; graced; guided to act rightly; rewarded. A/t/a, ‘had been gracious,’ ‘bestowed His grace,’ ‘bestowed a favour,’ ‘had conferred his favour,’ ‘had bestowed His blessings,’ had favoured,’ ‘bestowed His favour,’ ‘had conferred His special favour’ and ‘had bestowed His grace’)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • عَلَيۡ– Alai — Upon (= Above; against; before; for; on; on top of; over; to)
  • هِمَا — Hay-maa — Those two (= pro., 2pl., m., 3 rd person. Refers to foresaid two men. A/t/a, ‘whom’)
  • ادۡخُلُوۡا — (U)d-kho-loo — You enter (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Get in. A/t/a, ‘Assault,’ ‘enter,’ ‘enter in,’ ‘Enter … advancing,‘ ‘Mount an assault,’ ‘march,’ ‘go’ and ‘assault’)
  • عَلَيۡ — Alai — On (= Above; against; before; during; for; on; on top of; over; to; upon. A/t/a, ‘into’)
  • هِمُ — Hay-mo … (ol) — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person. Those men; they; their)
  • الۡبَابَ — Baa-ba — The gate (= n., Door; entrance; entry way; gate. A/t/a, ‘by the gate,’  ‘at the (proper) Gate,’ ‘the gate,’ ‘the gate (of the city advancing),’ ‘through the gate’ and ‘through the gates’)
  • فَ — Fa — Then (= After all this; at the end; consequently; finally; hence; in conclusion; so; thereafter; therefore; thus, A/t/a, ‘for’)
  • اِذَا — Ezaa — When (= At the time or event; behold; call to mind; consider; now that; ponder over; recall; reflect, remember or think of the time, event, occasion, opportunity or time. A/t/a, ‘if,’ ‘once,’ ‘when once’ and ‘when’)
  • دَخَلۡتُمُو — Da-khul-to-moo — You entered (= v., past., pl., 2nd person. Got in. A/t/a, ‘once you are in,’ ‘you enter,’ ‘ye enter,’ ‘you have entered’ and ‘you are in’)
  • هُ — Ho — It (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the door or gate. A/t/a, ‘by it’)
  • فَ — Fa — Then (= After this; hence; so; thus; therefore. See  فَ  above)
  • اِنَّ — In-na — Surely (= Absolutely; definitely; doubtlessly; indeed; positively; really surely; truly; verily. A/t/a, ‘lo!’)
  • كُمۡ  — Koom — You (= pro., pl., 2nd person. You all men)
  • غٰلِبُوۡنَ — Ghaa-lay-boo-n — Subjugators (= n., pl. Conquerors; dominants; predominant; prevalent; triumphant, ubiquitous; victorious; winners. Those who have overcome, overpowered, overridden and subjugated. A/t/a ‘Victory will be yours,’ ‘will be victorious,’ ‘you shall be … victorious’ and ‘you will have the upper hand’)

Author A Yusuf Ali carved up the following words as a separate verse # 26 of this Soorah

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • عَلٰى — Ala … (ul) — On (= Above; against; before; during; for; on; on top of; over; to; upon. A/t/a, ‘in’)
  • اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • فَ — Fa — Then (= After this; hence; so; thus; therefore. See فَ above)
  • تَوَكَّلُوۡۤا — Ta-wuk-ka-loo — Put faith (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Have confidence; rely; trust. A/t/a, ‘put your trust’ and ‘put all your trust’)
  • اِنۡ — In — If (= In case; under the circumstances; when; when situation arises; whenever. A/t/a, ‘if indeed’)
  • كُنۡتُمۡ — Koon-toom — You have been (= Since the past were and have been continuously. A/t/a, ‘you are’)
  • مُّؤۡمِنِيۡنَ — Moe-may-nee-n — Believers (= n., pl. Those who believe. A/t/a, ‘have faith,’ ‘believers (in Him)’ and ‘true believers’)
