The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                             005:028

 

وَاتۡلُ عَلَيۡهِمۡ نَبَاَ ابۡنَىۡ اٰدَمَ بِالۡحَـقِّ‌ ۘ اِذۡ قَرَّبَا قُرۡبَانًا  فَتُقُبِّلَ مِنۡ اَحَدِهِمَا وَلَمۡ يُتَقَبَّلۡ مِنَ الۡاٰخَرِ ؕ قَالَ لَاَقۡتُلَـنَّكَ ؕ  قَالَ اِنَّمَا يَتَقَبَّلُ اللّٰهُ مِنَ الۡمُتَّقِيۡنَ  

 

Wut-lo-alai-him-na-ba-ub-nai-aa-da-ma-bil-huq-qay                                                                  Iz-qur-ra-baa-qoor-baa-nun                                                                                                                Fa-to-qoob-bay-la-min-aa-ha-day-hay-maa                                                                                  Wa-lum-yo-ta-qub-bo-la-may-nul-aa-khay-ray                                                                            Qaa-la-la-uq-to-lun-na-ka                                                                                                                    Qaa-la-in-na-maa-ya-ta-qub-ba-lool-laa-ha-my-nul-moot-ta-qee-n

 

And tell them the tale of two sons of Adam with truth                                            When the two offered sacrifice.                                                                                          So it was accepted from one of the two of them                                                          But will not be accepted from the other.                                                                            He (the latter) said, “I will kill you.”                                                                                    He (the other) said, “Surely Allah accepts all that from the righteous.”

 

  • وَ — Wa … (ut) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)

  • عَلَيۡ — Alai — On (= Above; before; during; for; on; on top of; over; to; upon. A/t/a, ‘unto’)
  • هِمۡ — Him — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person. Those men; they; their)
  • نَبَاَ — Na-ba-aa … (ub) — Tale (= n., Announcement; event; happening; information; information; news; occurrence; story; tale; tiding; A/t/a, ‘the great news’)
  • ابۡنَىۡ — Ub-nai — Two sons (= n., 2pl. Sons who were two. A/t/a, ‘two sons … (Hbil and Qabil — Abel and Cain’ [mmk, tda])
  • اٰدَمَ — Aa-da-ma — Adam (= The name of a Messenger / Prophet of Allah 002
  • بِ — Bay — With (= Literally the word بِ  means with)
  • الۡحَـقِّ — Ul-huq-qay — The Truth (= Appropriate; equitable; exactness; fair; fairness; just; just cause; justification; justice; justified conduct; preciseness; proper; reasonableness; suitable. Right. A/t/a, ‘the truth,’ ‘truly,’ ‘the true,’ ‘in all truth’ and ‘in truth’)
  • اِذۡ — Iz — When (= At the time or event; call to mind; recall; remember; think of the time, event, occasion or opportunity. A/t/a, ‘Behold’ and ‘how’)
  • قَرَّبَا — Qur-ra-baa — The two offered (= v., past., 2pl., 3rd person. Two persons presented sacrifice. A/t/a, ‘They each Presented … (to God),’ ‘offered,’ ‘they offered each,’ ‘they each offered’ and ‘each made’)
  • قُرۡبَانًا — Qoor-baa-nun — Sacrifice (= n., Sacrifice. A/t/a, ‘an offering’)
  • فَ — Fa — So (= After all this; at the end; consequently; finally; hence; in conclusion; so; thereafter; therefore; thus)
  • تُقُبِّلَ — To-qoob-bay-la —  Would be accepted (= v., pres., pass, s., 3rd person. Acknowledged; admitted; allowed; approved; recognized; taken. A/t/a, ‘was accepted’)
  • مِنۡ — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several)
  • اَحَدِ — Aa-ha-day — One (= n., Ref to one son of Adam)
  • هِمَا — Hay-maa — Those two (= pro., pl., m., 3 rd person. Refers to foresaid two persons
  • وَ — Wa — But (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • لَمۡ — Lum — Not (= Absolutely never; no, not at all. A/t/a, ‘not from’)
  • يُتَقَبَّلۡ — Yo-ta-qub-ba-lo — Would … be accepted (= v., pres., pass., s., 3rd person. About or going to be acknowledged, admitted, allowed; approved, recognized or taken.  A/t/a, accepted’)
  • مِنَ — May-na … (ul) From — (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several)
  • الۡاٰخَرِ — Aa-khay-ray    Other (= n., Latter; other; second)
  • قَالَ — Qaa-la — One said (= v., past., s, 3rd person. Announced; called; conveyed; declared; informed; maintained; resolved; stated; told. See Note 002:121 and Commentary ‘You say’ means’. A/t/a, ‘Said the latter,’ ‘(The one) said,’ The latter said,’ ‘The latter said to the former,‘ ‘(The latter whose offering was not accepted, out of jealousy for the other) said’ and ‘Cain said’)
  • لَ — La —  Certainly (= Absolutely; certainly [mma]; definitely; doubtlessly; indeed; really; surely; verily.  A/t/a, ‘Be sure’)
  • اَقۡتُلَـنَّ — Uq-to-lun-na — Kill (= v., pres., s., 1st person. Destroy; murder. A/t/a, ‘I will slay’ and ‘I will … kill’)
  • كَ — Ka — You (= pro., s., m., 2nd person. You single male. A/t/a, ‘thee’)
  • قَالَ — Qaa-la — The other said (= v., past., s, 3rd person. Announced. See   قَالَ  above. A/t/a, ‘Said the former,’ ‘(the other) answered,’ ‘The former replied,’ ‘the former said,’ ‘He replied, ‘(How can I be held responsible for the rejection of your offering)’ and ‘His brother replied’)
  • اِنَّ — In-na — Surely (= Absolutely; clearly, decidedly; definitely; doubtlessly; indeed; positively; really; surely; truly; verily)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — All that (= What; whatever; whatsoever)
  • يَتَقَبَّلُ — Ya-ta-qub-ba-lo — Accepts (= v., pres., s., 3rd person. Acknowledges, approves,  recognizes; takes. A/t/a, ‘Doth accept the sacrifice,’ ‘accepts,’ ‘accepteth only,’ ‘only accepts’  and ‘Allah accepts’)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • مِنَ — May-na … (ul) From  (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several. A/t/a, ‘of those’ and ‘only from’)
  • الۡمُتَّقِيۡنَ‏ — Moot-ta-qee-n — Righteous (= n., Clean; pious; doers of duty owed to God Almighty. God-Fearing. Noble. Righteous. The pious. Those who avoid angering Allah. Virtuous. A/t/a, ‘who are righteous,’ ‘the dutiful,’ ‘those who ward off (evil),’ ‘who become secure  against evil’ and ‘those who are pious’)
