 وَتَرٰى كَثِيۡرًا مِّنۡهُمۡ يُسَارِعُوۡنَ فِى الۡاِثۡمِ وَالۡعُدۡوَانِ وَاَكۡلِهِمُ السُّحۡتَ‌ ؕ لَبِئۡسَ مَا كَانُوۡا يَعۡمَلُوۡنَ‏

 

Wa-ta-raa-ka-thee-run-min-hoom-yo-saa-ray-oo-na                                                                  Fil-ith-may-wul-ood-waa-nay-wa-uk-lay-ho-moos-soh-ta                                                          La-bae-sa-maa-kaa-noo-yau-ma-loo-n

 

And you see many from them hurrying                                                                              In sin and excesses and their ingesting the Forbidden.                                                Surely evil is what they have been doing.

 

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • تَـرَى — Ta-ra — You see (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Look; observe; ponder; view;  watch; witness. See Note 002:244a for more meanings.  A/t/a, ‘you see,’ ‘dost thou see,’ ‘thou seest’ and ‘you will find’)
  • كَثِيرً۬ا — Ka-thee-run — A lot (= Adj., Abundant. Ample. Bigger, greater or larger in number. Good deal. Great favor. Much more. Of exceeding quality and quantity. Of several times higher height. Plump. Plentiful. Without cease. Without stint. Also, the word refers to any multitude, overflowing, repeated or repetitious goodness. A/t/a, ‘many’)
  • مِّنۡ  — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several articles, counts, kind, things, persons or phenomenon. A/t/a, ‘of’)
  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they. A/t/a, ‘them (Jews)’
  • يُسَارِعُوۡنَ — Yo-saa-ray-oo-na — Hurry (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Enthusiastically doing the job that has to be done; hastening to outdo; swiftly carrying out the assigned task; vying with each other; quickly. A/t/a, ‘racing each other,’ hastening,’ ‘vying one with another,’ ‘hurrying’ and ‘vie with one another’)
  • فِى — F… (il) — In (= About. concerning; reference, regarding, relative to; in the matter of. Also, in a duration, event, time, place, period, thing or situation. A/t/a, ‘towards.’ See Note 002:028)
  • الۡاِثۡمِ — Ith-may — Sin (= n., Crime; guilt; infraction; illegality; iniquity; injustice; offence; sin; transgression; unjust conduct; wrong. Intentional / premeditated commission of a Prohibition. Blame, accountability or responsibility for an unlawful or unjustifiable conduct for any of the above acts. A/t/a, ‘committing sin’)
  • وَ — Wa … (ul) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • الۡعُدۡوَانِ — Ood-yaa-nay — Transgression (= n., Aggression; being unjust; crossing the line; excess; exceeding the limits; going overboard; unfairness; wickedness. Some situations justify translating this this word into acrimony, animosity, bitterness, dislike, enmity, hatred, hostility, loathing, rancor or spite. A/t/a, ‘enmity,’ ‘rancor,’ transgression and ‘wickedness’)

  • اَكۡلِ — Uk-lay — Ingestion (= n., Consumption; devouring; eating ; ingestion; misappropriating; usurping. A/t/a, ‘running eagerly after,’ ‘being given too much to eat’ and ‘eat’)
  • هِمُ — Hay-mo … (os) — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; their)
  • السُّحۡتَ‌ — Soh-ta — Forbidden (= n., Anything forbidden or declared illegal such as the blood, dead, pig, sacrifices for anyone besides Allah (See 002:174, 005:004, 005:043, 005:063, 005:064) and usury *See Usury) or rental on money. A/t/a, ‘that which is forbidden,’ ‘illicit gain,’ ‘things forbidden,’ ‘illegal things [as bribes and Riiba (usuary)]’ and ‘the fruits of unlawful gain’)
  • لَ — La — Surely (= Absolutely; assuredly; categorically; clearly, definitely;  doubtlessly; earnestly; indeed; positively; really; truly; seriously; specifically; surely;  verily. A/t/a, ‘How … is’)
  • بِئۡسَ — Bai-sa — Bad (= n., Evil; vile; wicked)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — All that (= What; whatever; whatsoever; at such time; when. A/t/a, ‘that which’)
  • كَانُوۡۤا — Kaa-noo — They have been (= v., past., s., m., 3rd person., Continued doing; used to; went on; were doing. Words has or had always been indicate endless continuity from the past to the present and leading into the future. A/t/a, ‘have been’ and ‘is’)
  • يَعۡمَلُوۡنَ‏ — Yau-ma-loo-n — Doing (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Acting; performing; practicing. A/t/a, ‘doing,’ ‘they do’ and ‘they practise’)
