The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                        005:064

 

لَوۡلَا يَنۡهٰٮهُمُ الرَّبَّانِيُّوۡنَ وَالۡاَحۡبَارُ عَنۡ قَوۡلِهِمُ الۡاِثۡمَ وَاَكۡلِهِمُ السُّحۡتَ‌ؕ لَبِئۡسَ مَا كَانُوۡا يَصۡنَعُوۡنَ 

 

Lao-laa-yun-haa-ho-moor-rub-aa-nee-yoo-na-wul-ah-baa-ro                                                  Un-qao-lay-hay-mool-ith-ma-wa-uk-lay-ho-moos-soh-ta                                                          La-bae-sa-maa-kaa-noo-yus-na-oon                                           

 

And why don’t the Rabbis and Scholars stop them                                                    From their talking the sin and their ingesting the Forbidden?                                  Surely evil is what they have been fabricating. 

 

  • لَوۡ — Lao — Why (= In case; under the circumstances; wish; would)
  • لَا — Laa — Do not (= Naught; neither; never; none; nor; not at all; absolute denial and total negation without exception. A/t/a, ‘do not’)
  • يَنۡهٰ — Yun-haa — Stop (= v., pres., s., m., 3rd person. Forbid; prohibit.  Word like check,  curtail, limit, obstruct, oppose or restrict is for a lesser degree of a commanded prohibition. A/t/a ‘restrain’)
  • هُمُ — Hay-mo … (or) — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they)
  • الرَّبَّانِيُّوۡنَ — Rub-baa-nee-yoo-na — The rabbis (= n., pl., Those who are knowledgeable in spiritual matters; spiritual leaders. A/t/a, ‘rabbis,’ ‘the divines’ and ‘the teachers of divine knowledge’)
  • وَ  — Wa … (ul) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but;  also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • الۡاَحۡبَارُ — Ah-baa-ro — The scholars (= n., Those who are knowledgeable in worldly affairs; worldly learned. A/t/a, ‘doctors of law,’  ‘those learned in the Law,’ ‘priests,’ ‘Scholars,’ ‘divines’ and ‘religious learned men’)
  • عَنۡ — Un — From (= About; concerning; regarding; relative to)
  • قَوۡلِ — Qao-lay — Talking (= n. Announcement; broadcast; call; conveyance;  declaration; information; explanation; specification; telling. A/t/a, ‘(habit of) uttering sinful words,’ ‘sinful utterances,’ ‘uttering,’ ‘talk and deed,’ ‘evil-speaking’ and ‘to blaspheme’)
  • هِمُ — Hay-mo … (ol) — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; their)
  • الۡاِثۡمَ — Ith-ma — Sin (= n., Crime; guilt; infraction; illegality; iniquity; injustice; offence; sin; transgression; unjust conduct; wrong. Intentional / premeditated commission of a Prohibition. Blame, accountability or responsibility for an unlawful or unjustifiable conduct for any of the above acts. A/t/a, ‘falsehood,’ ‘blasphemous’ and ‘sinful things’)

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • اَكۡلِ — Uk-lay — Ingestion (= n., Consumption; devouring; eating ; ingestion; misappropriating; usurping.  A/t/a, ‘eating,’ ‘their being too much given to eating’ and ‘practise’)
  • هِمُ — Hay-mo … (os) — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; their)
  • السُّحۡتَ‌ — Soh-ta — Forbidden (= n., Anything forbidden or declared illegal such as the blood, dead, pig, sacrifices for anyone besides Allah. See 002:174005:004005:043005:063, 005:064) and Commentary Usury)
  • لَ — La — Surely (= Absolutely; assuredly; categorically; clearly, definitely;  doubtlessly; earnestly; indeed; positively; really; truly; seriously; specifically; surely;  verily. A/t/a, ‘certainly’)
  • بِئۡسَ — Bai-sa — Bad (= n., Evil; vile; wicked)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — All that (= What; whatever; whatsoever; at such time; when)
  • كَانُوۡۤا — Kaa-noo — They have been (= v., past., s., m., 3rd person., Continued doing; used to; went on; were doing. Words has or had always been indicate endless continuity from the past to the present and leading into the future. A/t/a, ‘are’ and ‘is’)
  • يَصۡنَعُوۡنَ  — Yus-na-oon — Fabricating (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Bringing a thing into existence out of nothing before like with the process of creating, designing, inventing, fabricating, manufacturing and originating. A derivate from the same root commonly used is in the phrase  صنعت و حرفت  (sun-ut-o-hur-fut) in which the 2nd word حرفت (hur-fut) is for the process of conversion of improvement of a thing that already exists and the 1st word صنعت (sun-ut) is for the process of creating newly or originating a thing that did not exist before. A/t/a, ’performing,’ ‘practicing’ and ‘they do’)
