The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                  005:066

 

 وَلَوۡ اَنَّ اَهۡلَ الۡـكِتٰبِ اٰمَنُوۡا وَاتَّقَوۡا لَـكَفَّرۡنَا عَنۡهُمۡ سَيِّاٰتِهِمۡ وَلَاَدۡخَلۡنٰهُمۡ جَنّٰتِ النَّعِيۡمِ‏

 

Wa-lao-un-na-ah-lul-kay-taa-bay-aa-ma-noo-wut-ta-qoo                                                          La-kuf-fer-naa-un-hoom-suy-yay-aa-tay-him-wa                                                                    La-ud-khul-naa-hoom-jun-naa-tin-na-eem

 

And if the people of the Book had believed and were pious                                        We surely would have removed from them their vices and                                          We surely would have entered them into gardens of Bliss

           

  • وَ  — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • لَوۡ — Lao — If (= In case; under the circumstances; wish; would. A/t/a, ‘If only’ and ‘had’)
  • اَ نَّ — Un-na — Surely (= Absolutely; definitely; doubtlessly; indeed; positively; really surely; truly; verily)
  • اَهۡلَ — Ah-la … (ul) — People of (= Believers; citizens; folks; friends; masters; owners, population; supporters; those of or entrusted with; users. A/t/a, ‘people … Jews and Christians)’
  • الۡكِتٰبِ — Ul-kay-taa-bay — The Book (= n., The Divine Directive of Commands, Prohibitions and Regulations. Scripture. A/t/a, ‘earlier’ Scripture.’ See also verse 003:065)
  • اٰمَنُوۡا — Aaa-ma-noo    Believed (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Believed in the Holy Qor-aan; became Moslems. Accepted, acknowledged, admitted or witnessed entry in Iss-laam. See Commentaries Phrase Aa-ma-noo-wa-aa-may-loos … and Believe and Disbelieve that floodlight other aspects how the Holy Qor-aan has used this word. A/t/a, ‘would believe,’ ‘believed,’ ‘had only believed’ and ‘had believed (in Muhammad s.a.w.’ But ‘accept the true faith’ is in the present tense is no translation of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated in the past tense)
  • وَ — Wa  … (ut) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ above)
  • اتَّقَوۡا — Ta-qao — Been pious (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Avoided angering Allah; behaved piously; did duty to God; did good deeds; were righteous. Warded off evil. See more meanings in the Commentary The Righteous. A/t/a, ‘had … been righteous,’ ‘had been mindful of their duty to Allah,’ ‘kept their duty,’ ‘ward off evil,’ ‘had been righteous,’ ‘guarded against evil,’ ‘had feared,’ ‘keep from evil,’ ‘warded off evil (sin, ascribing partners to Allah) and had become Muttaqin (the pious)’
  • لَ  — La — Certainly (= Absolutely; assuredly; categorically; clearly, definitely doubtlessly; earnestly; indeed; positively; really; truly; seriously; sincerely; specifically; surely; verily. A/t/a, ‘certainly’)
  • كَفَّر — Kuf-fer — Removed (= v., past., m., pl., 3rd person. We will deny, efface  or prohibit. A/t/a, ‘should … have Blotted out,’ ‘would have removed,’ ‘would … have  removed,’ ‘would have acquitted of,’ ‘would have expiated,’ ‘have absolved,’  ‘should remit’ and ‘removed.’ But ‘pardon’ n the present tense is no translation  of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated in the past tense)
  • نَآ — Naa — We (= pro., m/g., pl., 1st person. Our; Us. Used with God’s name this is the authoritative way a higher-up talks)
  • عَنۡ — Un  — From (= About; concerning; regarding; relative to)
  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom  — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they)
  • سَيِّاٰتِ — Suy-yay-aa-tay — Vices (= n., pl., Bad or evil results and consequences; ill deeds; mistakes; sins; vices; wrongs. Stains of bad or evil acts, errors and mistakes. A/t/a, ‘Iniquities,’ ‘evils,’  ‘ills’ and ‘sins’ )
  • هِمۡ — Him — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • لَ — La — Certainly (= Absolutely; assuredly; definitely. See  لَ  above)
  • اَدۡخَلۡ — Ud-khul — Entered (= v., past., m., pl., 3rd person. Admitted and ‘made … enter.’ But ‘bring them into’ and ‘admit’ in the present tense are no translations of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated in the past tense)
  • نَآ  — Naa —  We (= pro., m/g., pl., 1st person. Our; Us. See  نَآ  above)
  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; their)
  • جَنّٰتِ — Jun-naa-tin — Gardens (= n., pl., Orchards. A/t/a, ‘Gardens of.’ See Commentary The Paradise)
  • النَّعِيۡمِ — Na-eem — Bliss (= n., Blessed; bestowed; delightful; good times; happy; state; indulged in joys and comforts; pleasant life; prosperous; worldly favors. A/t/a, ‘bliss,’Bliss,’ ‘Delight,’ ‘pleasure (the Paradise)’
