The Holy Qor-aan 005:076
مَا الۡمَسِيۡحُ ابۡنُ مَرۡيَمَ اِلَّا رَسُوۡلٌ ۚ قَدۡ خَلَتۡ مِنۡ قَبۡلِهِ الرُّسُلُؕ وَاُمُّهٗ صِدِّيۡقَةٌ ؕ كَانَا يَاۡكُلٰنِ الطَّعَامَؕ اُنْظُرۡ كَيۡفَ نُبَيِّنُ لَهُمُ الۡاٰيٰتِ ثُمَّ انْظُرۡ اَ نّٰى يُؤۡفَكُوۡنَ
Mul-ma-se-hoob-no-mur-ya-ma-il-laa-ra-soo-l(oon) Qud-kha-lut-min-qub-lay-hir-ro-so-lo Wa-om-mo-hoo-sid-dee-qa-toon Kaa-naa-yau-ko-laa-nit-ta-aa-ma
Oon-zoor-kai-fa-no-buy-yun-na-la-ho-mool-aa-yaa-tay Thoom-mun-zoor-un-naa-yoe-fay-koo-n
The Messiah son of Mary was not but a messenger. Surely the Messengers before him had passed away. And his mother was a very truthful lady. They both used to eat food.
Look how clearly We state the Signs for them. Look again how come they disregard by deceits.
- مَاۤ — Maa … (ul) –Not (= Absolutely not; no; never; nothing. A/t/a, ‘was only,’ ‘only and ‘no more than’)
- الۡمَسِيۡحُ — Ul-ma-se-ho(b) — Messiah (= n., refers to Jesus Christ)
- ابۡنُ — Ob-no — Son (= Boy; male child)
- مَرۡيَمَ — Mur-ya-m(ul) — Mary (= The mother of Jesus Christ)
- اِلَّا — Il-laa — Except (= Apart from; but; besides; excluding; save; unless.
- رَسُوۡلٌ — Ra-soo-loon — Messenger (= pl., Apostle; God’s messenger; prophet; sage)
- قَدۡ — Qud — Surely (= This word lays emphasis like very definitely; surely. See Note 004:049 and our Commentary titled the “2 Words of Emphasis used together Multiply Effect.” A/t/a, ‘Most surely’ and ‘indeed’)
- خَلَتۡ — Kha-lut — Passed away (= v., past., 3rd person., Became history; died; gone; gone by; happened; have been; occurred; passed away; past. A/t/a, ‘passed away,’ ‘have passed away,’ ‘had passed away’ and ‘have (like him) passed away’)
- مِنۡ — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several articles, counts, kind, things, persons or phenomenon)
- قَبۡلِ — Qub-lay — Before (= Earlier, former, older, past or prior times. Aforetime. Ahead. Something that happened or occurred in prior periods antecedently, historically and previously. A/t/a, ‘before’)
- هِ — Hay … (ir) — Him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the Almighty God)
- الرُّسُلُ — Ro-so-lo — Messengers (= pl., Apostles; God’s messengers; prophets; sages; saints. A/t/a, ‘messenger (the like of whom),’ ‘all the Messengers,’ ‘Messengers like unto him’ and ‘Messengers’)
- وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
- اُمُّ — Oom-mo — Mother (= n., The biological relative who gives birth. A/t/a, ‘mother [Maryam (Mary)])
- هٗ — Hoo — His (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to Jesus Christ)
- صِدِّيۡقَةٌ — Sid-dee-qa-toon — Very truthful (= adj., Highly honest and truthful female human being. A/t/a, woman of truth,’ ‘saintly woman,’ ‘truthful woman,’ ‘paragon of truth,’ ‘highly truthful woman,’ ‘righteous’ and ‘Siddiqah [i.e. she believed in words of Allah and His books (see Verse 66:12)]
- كَانَا — Kaa-naa — Had been (= v., past., 2pl., 3rd person, Continuously did; used to; went on; were doing. Has or had always been)
- يَاۡكُلٰنِ — Yau-ko-laa-n(it) — Eat (= v., pres., 2pl., 3rd person. Consume; partake. A/t/a, ‘They had both to eat,’ ‘They both eat,’ ‘they both … eat (earthly) food,’ ‘they both were in need of and ate,’ ‘they both … eat,’ ‘eat,’ ‘they both … eat … (as any other human being , while Allah does not eat)’ and ‘they both ate’)
- الطَّعَامَ — Ta-aa-ma — Food (= n., Eating or feeding any food or eatable for subsistence. A/t/a, ‘food,’ ‘Their (daily) food’ and ‘earthly food’)
- اُنْظُرۡ — Oon-zoor — You look (= v., pres., s., 2nd person. Check out; find; get to view; look at; look out; observe; see; take notice; understand; view; watch for. A/t/a, ‘Behold!’)
- كَيۡفَ — Kai-fa — How (= How would it be, do or fare. What would it look. In what fashion, manner, method or way; think of the time, event, occasion, opportunity or time)
- نُبَيِّنُ — No-buy-yoon-na — We clearly state (= v., pres., 1st person Clarify, explain, expound or show with certain, convincing, irrefutable, manifest, sure or veritable arguments, corroborations, signs, portents, evidence, proofs or testimonies of Truth. A/t/a ‘God doth make … clear,’ ‘we make … clear,’ ‘We explain’ and ‘We make plain’)
- لَ — La — For (= For the object, person, purpose or reason of; intended for; meant for; on account of; concerning; regarding; relative to. A/t/a, ‘for,’ ‘for their good’ and ‘to’ )
- هُمُ — Ho-mo … (ol) — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they. A//t/a, ‘their benefit’ and ‘their good’)
- الۡاٰيٰتِ — Aa-yaa-tay — Signs (= n., pl of … An argument, corroboration, indication, insinuation, pointer, portent, sign, suggestion, symbol or token. A/t/a, ‘the Signs,’ ‘His Signs,’ ‘Our Signs,’ ‘Our revelations,’ ‘messages,’ ‘revelations,’ ‘arguments’ and ‘Ayat [proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.)’
- ثُمَّ — Thoom-ma … (un) — Again (= Further more; subsequently; then again; thereafter. A/t/a, ‘and again,’ ‘yet’ and ‘then’)
- انْظُرۡ — (U)n-zoor — Look (= v., pres., 2nd person, See; look. See اُنْظُرۡ above)
- اَ نّٰى — Un-naa — How come (= From where; how could it be; whence; which way. Signifies a question filled with surprise . A/t/a, ‘in what ways’ and ‘how’)
- يُؤۡفَكُوۡنَ — Yoe-fa-koo-n –They disregard by deceit (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Concoct, conceive, device, disregard, fabricate, make believe, switch or twist facts by charades, deceit, deceptions and shams. A/t/a, ‘they ignore truth’ and ‘They are deluded Away from the truth.’ See Note 005:076 how mistranslating this word has grave implications.
** Note 005:076. First this verse tells people in the present tense to see the given Signs. Then the word يُؤۡفَكُوۡنَ (yoe-fa-koo-n) in the present tense shows how they disregard those Signs.
It is a mistranslation to translate this word in the past tense because it implies that they did the wrong act in the past only. The fact which the Holy Qor-aan states is in the present tense and that they are doing the wrong act continually, even now.
Our Commentary Translations With Grammar Violated shows how disregarding the rules of Arabic grammar has resulted in mistranslations and colossal mistakes.
