The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                        005:077

 

قُلۡ اَ تَعۡبُدُوۡنَ مِنۡ دُوۡنِ اللّٰهِ مَا لَا يَمۡلِكُ لَـكُمۡ ضَرًّا وَّلَا نَفۡعًا ‌ؕ وَاللّٰهُ هُوَ السَّمِيۡعُ الۡعَلِيۡمُ‏ 

 

Qool-aa-tau-bo-do-na-min-doo-nil-laa-hay                                                                                  Maa-laa-yum-lay-ko-la-koom-zur-run-wa-laa-nuf-aa                                                                Wul-laa-ho-ho-wus-sa-me-ool-alee-m

 

Say, ”Do you worship other than Allah                                                                        What has no control to harm or benefit you?                                                                And by God Allah is the Hearer, The Knower.”

 

  •  قُلۡ — Qool — Say (= v., pres., s, 2nd person. Ask; announce; call; convey; explain; expound; inform; specify; state; tell. See 112:002 and Commentary ‘You say’ means‘ A/t/a, ‘ask them’ and ‘Say (O Muhammad s.a.w. to mankind)’
  • اَ — Aa — Do (= Question mark like Are, Can, Have, Shell. A/t/a, ‘Will’ and ‘How do’)
  • تَعۡبُدُونَ — Tau-bo-do-na — You worship (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Who, what or how you worship. The person, the manner, the method or the way you appreciate, praise, serve and thank what you worship. A/t/a, ‘you worship,’ ‘you serve’ and ‘serve ye’)
  • مِنۡ — Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several articles, counts, kind, things, persons or phenomenon)
  • دُوۡنِ — Doo-nay … (il) — Other than (= Apart from; besides; except; excluding; exclusive of; in preference to; over and beyond; save; to the exclusion of the rest of. A/t/a, ‘other than,’ ‘beside,’ ‘besides,’ ‘in place of’ and ‘instead of’)
  • اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — What (= All that; whatever; whatsoever. A/t/a, ’something,’ ‘that which,’ ‘which’ and ‘something which has’)
  • لَا — Laa — No (= Naught; neither; never; none; nor; not at all; absolute denial and total negation without exception. A/t/a, ‘neither’)
  • يَّمۡلِكُ — Yum-lay-ko — Has / Owns (= v., pres., s., 3rd person. Has ability, authority, capacity; control, mastery, opportunity; ownership, power. A/t/a, ‘controls,’ ‘has … power,’ ‘possesseth’ and ‘can’)
  • لَ — La — For (= For the object, purpose or reason of; intended for; regarding; relative to; to; towards. A/t/a, ‘to do’ and ‘over doing’)
  • كُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., 2nd person. You all men. The Holy Qor-aan generally addresses men and women jointly this way)
  • ضَرًّا  — Dzur-run — Harm (= n., Harm; hurt; pain; peril; suffering. Also, affliction, ailment, calamity, disability; infirmity; causing illness, sickness or any weakness. A/t/a, ‘either To harm’ and ‘neither hurt’)
  • وَّ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but;                           also; more over; though; when; while; yet. A/t/a, ‘or’)                                                        
  • لَا — Laa — No (= Naught; neither; never; none; nor. See  لَا  above)
  • نَفۡعًا  — Nuf-aa — Benefit (= n., adj., adv. Advantage; benefit; good; profit. A/t/a, use’ and help’)
  • وَ — Wa —  And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above. A/t/a, ‘But’)
  • اللّٰهُ — Laa-ho — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • هُوَ — Ho-wa .. (us) — He (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. He. Refers to the Almighty God.    A/t/a, ‘He is,’ ‘He it is,’ ‘It is … who’ and ‘Allah it is’)
  • ٱلسَّمِيعُ — Sa-mee-o..(l) — All-Hearing (= superlative form indicates the greatest, the highest, the most, and highlights that none more than Him hears the best. See 001:001. All-Hearing. Most Hearing. The Hearer. Hears to the maximum. Hears wholly, entirely, truly surely, totally and surely. The One from whom nothing is beyond, missed or out of hearing. A/t/a, ’that heareth … All things,’ ‘the Hearing,’ ‘hears all’ and ‘All-Hearer’)
  • الۡعَلِيۡمُ — Alee-m — All-Knowing   (= superlative form indicates the greatest, the highest, the most, and highlights that none more than Him knows, is knowing, aware, or has cognizance and information. Fully aware. See 001:001. A/t/a, ‘All-knowing,’ ‘That … knoweth All things,’ ‘the Knowing,’ ‘Knower,’ ‘knows all’ and ‘All-Knower’)
