لُعِنَ الَّذِيۡنَ كَفَرُوۡا مِنۡۢ بَنِىۡۤ اِسۡرَآءِيۡلَ عَلٰى لِسَانِ دَاوٗدَ وَعِيۡسَى ابۡنِ مَرۡيَمَ‌ ؕ ذٰ لِكَ بِمَا عَصَوْا وَّكَانُوۡا يَعۡتَدُوۡنَ

 

Lo-aiy-nul-la-zee-na-ka-fa-roo                                                                                                        Min-ba-ni-is-ra-ee-la-alaa                                                                                                                    Lay-saa-nay-da-woo-da-wa-ee-sub-nay-mur-ya-ma                                                                    Zaa-lay-ka-bay-maa-aa-suw-wa-kaa-noo-yau-ta-doo-n

 

Cursed were those who disbelieved                                                                                From among the children of Israel on                                                                              The reputation of David and Jesus son of Mary.                                                              That was because they disobeyed and used to cross the line.

 

  • لُعِنُوۡا — Lo-aiy-noo(l) — Were cursed (= v., past., pass., pl., 3rd person. Blighted; condemned; deprived of God’s mercy; disapproved; doomed; given bad luck; inflicted wrath. Imposed with, invoked upon, placed under or struck with curse. A/t/a, ‘were cursed,’ ‘Curses were pronounced on,’ ‘were deprived of the blessings of God’ and ‘cursed were’)
  • ٱلَّذِينَ — Ul-la-zee-na — Those who (= pl., m, 3rd person. Refers to those articles, persons,  or phenomenon or things in masculine gender)
  • كَفَرُوۡا — Ka-fa-roo — They disbelieved (= v., past, pl., 3rd person. Denied, refused and rejected the Faith and belief in Allah, the Holy Qor-aan, Islam and become Moslem. See our Commentary Believe and Disbelieve. A/t/a ‘who rejected Faith,’ ‘went astray’ and ‘disbelieved.’ The noun ‘believers’ is no translation of the verb used by the Holy Qor-aan)
  • مِنۡ — Min — From among (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several articles, counts, kind, things, persons or phenomenon. A/t/a, ‘among,’ ‘amongst’ and ‘of’)
  • بَنِىۡٓ — Ba-nee — All children (= Followers; nation; tribes. progeny; off-springs; future generations. The vowel ‘mudd’ refers to all)
  • اِسۡرَآءِيۡلَ — Is-raa-ee-la — Israel (= The vowel ‘mudd’ refers to ‘All’ tribes or descendants from the 12 sons of Prophet Jacob)
  • عَلٰى — Alaa — On (= Above; against; before; during; for; on; on top of; over; to; upon. A/t/a, ‘by’)
  • لِسَانِ — Lat-saa-nay — Reputation (= n., Communication; conversation; dialogue; good name; talk; tongue; speech. Literally and medically, the body part inside the mouth with which to talk and taste. A/t/a, ‘tongue’ and ‘(firstly) by the tongue’)
  • دَاوٗدَ — Da-woo-da — David (= The name of a Messenger / Prophet of Allah
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet. A/t/a, ‘and (then by)’ ‘and by’)
  • عِيۡسٰى — Ee-sa … (ub) — Jesus (= Isa; The name of a Messenger / Prophet of Allah; Jesus)
  • ابۡنِ — Ub-nay — Son (= Boy; male child)
  • مَرۡيَمَ — Mur-ya-ma — Mary (= The mother of Jesus Christ)
  • ذٰلِكَ — Zaa-lay-ka — That was (= Here; refers to an aforesaid fact, person or statement; it’s because; right here; such is this; that is how it is. A/t/a, ‘That was’ and ‘they cursed them’)
  • بِمَا — Bay-maa — Because (= Combination of two words.  بِ  means ‘with / in’ and  مَاۤ   means ‘all that, whatever, whatsoever or whenever.’ The combination بِمَا  (bay-maa) means ‘because of; on account of; for the reason; due to; with / in all that)
  • عَصَوا — Aa-suw-wa — Disobeyed (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Denied; disobeyed; flouted; rebelled; refused; violated. A/t/a, ‘disobeyed (Allah and the Messengers.’ The noun ‘rebellion’ is no translation of the verb which is the text of the Holy Qor-aan)
  • وّ  — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • كَانُوۡۤا — Kaa-noo — Used to (= v., past., s., m., 3rd person., Continued doing; had been; went on; were doing. Words has or had always been indicate endless continuity from the past to the present and leading into the future. A/t/a, ‘used to,’ ‘were’ and ‘persisted’)
  • يَعۡتَدُوۡنَ — Yau-ta-doon — Cross the line (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Committing excesses;  exceeding the bounds; transgressing; violating limits. A/t/a, ‘transgress’ and ‘ever  transgressing beyond bounds.’ But ‘given to transgression,’ ‘exceeded the limits‘ and ‘committed evil’ which are verbs in the past tense, or nouns like ‘excesses’ and ‘transgression,’ are no translations of the text in the Holy Qor-aan that has stated the      act with a verb in the present tense)
