The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                    005:082

 

وَلَوۡ كَانُوۡا يُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ بِاللّٰهِ وَالنَّبِىِّ وَمَاۤ اُنۡزِلَ اِلَيۡهِ مَا اتَّخَذُوۡهُمۡ اَوۡلِيَآءَ وَلٰـكِنَّ كَثِيۡرًا مِّنۡهُمۡ فٰسِقُوۡنَ‏

 

Wa-lao-kaa-noo-yoe-may-noo-na-bil-laa-hay                                                                              Wun-na-bee-yay-wa-maa-oon-zay-la-alai-hay                                                                              Maut-ta-kha-zoo-hoom-ao-lay-yaa-aa                                                                                             Wa-laa-kin-naa-ka-thee-run-min-hoom-faa-say-qoo-n

 

And if they had been believing in Allah                                                                                And the Prophet and what was entrusted to them                                                          They would not have taken them as the real friends.                                                  But many among them are miscreants.

 

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • لَوۡ — Lao –If (= In case; under the circumstances; wish; would. A/t/a, ‘if only’)
  • كَانُوۡۤا — Kaa-noo — Had been (= v., past., s., m., 3rd person., Continued doing; used to;  went on; were doing. A/t/a, ‘had’)
  • يُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ — Yoe-may-noo-na — Believing (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Enter faith; follow the Holy  Qor-aan, Iss-laam and are Moslems. A/t/a, ‘believed’ which in the past tense is no translation of what is stated in the present tense in the Holy Qor-aan)
  • بِ — Bay — With (= Literally the word بِ  means with. A/t/a, ‘in’)
  • اللّٰهِ —  Laa-hay — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • وَ  — Wa … (un) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • النَّبِىِّ — Na-be-yay — The prophet (= n., s., Apostle; God’s messenger; saint; sage. One who brings, gives or reveals new news, makes forecasts, or foretells the coming events. A/t/a, ‘this perfect Prophet,’ ‘the Prophet’ and‘the Prophet (Muhammad s.a.w’)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — What (= All that; what; whatever; whatsoever. A/t/a. ‘in what,’ ‘in that’ and ‘that which’)
  • اُنۡزِلَ — Oon-zay-la — Entrusted (= v., past., pass., s, 3rd person. Dispatched, given, granted, inspired; revealed. Handed, laid, lowered or sent down. See Note 002:005a. A/t/a, ‘has been revealed,’ ‘is revealed,’ ‘has been sent down’ and ‘had been revealed’)
  • اِلَيۡ — E-lai — To (= In the direction of; to; towards. A/t/a, ‘unto’)
  • هِ — Hay — Him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the aforesaid Prophet)
  • مَاۤ — Maa … (ut) — Not (= Never; no; not; not all. Absolute negation. A/t/a, ‘never’)
  • اتَّخَذُوۡ — (U)ta-kha-zoo — They took (= v., past., pl., 3rd person. Adopted; brought in; caught; considered; construed; made part and parcel; put in. A/t/a, ‘would have … taken,’ ‘would they have taken,’ ‘would …  take’ and ‘they would… choose’)
  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs. A/t/a, ‘them (the disbelievers)’ and ‘the idolaters’)
  • أَوۡلِيَآءَ — Auo-lay-yaa-aa — True friends (= n., pl., Guardians; guides; helpers; leaders; patrons; protectors; protective friends; sincere well-wishers who heed one in need; supporter. A/t/a, ‘friends,’ ‘their friends,’ ‘friends and protectors,’ ‘helpers,’ ‘allies,’ ‘befriended’ and ‘Auliya (protectors  and helpers’)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • لٰـكِنۡ — Laa-kin — But (= However; instead; nevertheless; yet. A/t/a, ‘but’ and ‘but (they do so for)’
  • كَثِيرً۬ا — Ka-thee-raa — Many (= adj., Abundant. Ample. Great or large number. Good deal. Lots of; Many. Plump. Plentiful. Without cease or stint. A/t/a, ‘many’ and ‘most’)
  • مِّنۡ — Min — From / Among (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several articles, counts, kind, things, persons or phenomenon. A/t/a, ‘of’)
  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • فٰسِقُوۡنَ‏ — Faa-say-qoo-n — Miscreants (= n., pl., Disobedient; evildoers; lowlifes; malefactors; mischief-makers; miscreants; practitioners of the bad and abominations; rebellious; reprobate; transgressors; troublemakers; villains; wayward; wrongdoers. See Note 003:083. A/t/a, ‘rebellious wrong-doers,’ ‘of evil conduct,’ ‘disobedient,’ ‘transgressors,’ ‘Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah),’ wicked’ and ‘evil-doers’)
