The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                              005:112

 

وَ اِذۡ اَوۡحَيۡتُ اِلَى الۡحَـوَارِيّٖنَ اَنۡ اٰمِنُوۡا بِىۡ وَبِرَسُوۡلِىۡ‌ۚ  قَالُوۡۤا اٰمَنَّا وَاشۡهَدۡ بِاَنَّـنَا مُسۡلِمُوۡنَ‏

 

Wa-iz-auo-hai-to-aiy-lul-ha-wa-re-yee-na                                                                                    Un-aa-may-noo-be-wa-ra-so-lee                                                                                                        Qaa-loo-aa-mun-na-waush-hud                                                                                                          Bay-un-na-naa-moos-lay-moo-n

 

Recall the time when I revealed to the disciples                                                            That you believe Me and My messengers.                                                                      They said, “We have believed, and you witness                                                          That we surely are submissive.”

 

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally;                                 but; also; more over; though)
  • اِذۡ — Iz — When (= Any time or event; behold; call to mind; consider; now that; ponder over, recall; reflect, remember; think of the event, occasion, opportunity or time; whenever. A/t/a, ‘Behold,’ ‘remember my favour when’ and ‘how’)
  • اَوۡحَيۡتُ — Auo-hai-to — I revealed (= v., past, s., 1st person. Inspired; revealed; sent down; sent down. A/t/a, ‘enjoined’)
  • اِلَى — Aiy-lul — To (= In the direction of; to; towards)
  • الۡحَـوَارِيّٖنَ — Ha-vaa-re-yee-na — Disciples (= n., pl. Assistants; associates; disciples; helpers; promoters. A/t/a, ‘Al-Hawariyyun (the disciples’ [of Isa (Jesus)].’ See also 003:053)
  • اَنۡ — Un — That (= So that. A/t/a, ‘saying’ and ‘(saying)’
  • اٰمِنُوۡا — Aa-may-noo — You believe (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Believe in the Holy Qor-aan, become Moslems and enter the Faith of Iss-laam.  Also, admit; affirm; approve; confirm; concur; corroborate; testify; witness. See Commentary Belief & Disbelieve.  A/t/a, ‘Believe,’ ‘have faith In me’ and ‘to believe’)
  • بِ — Bay — With (= Literally the word  بِ  means with but the context here warrants to substitute it with an in)
  • ىۡ — Ee — Me (= pro., s., 1st person., I; me; my)
  • وَ  — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • بِ  — Bay — With ((= See بِ  above)
  • رَسُوۡلِ — Ra-soo-l — Messenger (= n., Apostle; saint; sage. A/t/a, ‘Messenger’)
  • ىۡ — Ee — My (= pro., s., 1st person., I; me; my. A/t/a, ‘Mine’)
  • قَالُوۡۤا — Qaa-loo — They said (= v., past, pl, 3rd person. Announced; broadcast; called;      conveyed; declared; informed; elaborated; explained; replied; specified; told. A/t/a, ‘they responded’)
  • اٰمَنَّا — Aa-mun-na — We believed (= v., past., pl. 1st person. We have believed in the Holy Qor-aan and accepted Islam. Admitted, affirmed, approved, proved, confirmed concurred, corroborated, entered, evidenced, testified and witnessed to have become Moslems. See  اٰمِنُوۡا  above. A/t/a, ‘We believe’ but that in the present tense is no translation of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated in the past tense)
  • وَ — Wa … (ush) — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • اشۡهَدۡ — Ush-hud — You witness (= v., pl.,2nd person., Be a witness; corroborate; give an  account or testimony; prove; stand in evidence; testify.  A/t/a, ‘do thou bear witness,’ ‘bear witness’ and ‘bear Thou witness’)
  • بِ  — Bay — With (= Literally the word  بِ  means with)
  • اَ نَّ –Un-na — That surely (= That + definitely, really, surely, truly or verily. A/t/a,  ‘wholly’ and ‘utterly’)
  • نَآ — Naa — We (= pro., m/g., pl., 1st person. Our; Us. Used with God’s name this is the authoritative way a higher-up talks)
  • مُسۡلِمُوۡنَ — Moos-lay-moo-n Submissive (= n., pl., The believers. The worshippers surrendered to the will of God in dedication and devotion and so at peace. See Note 003:053. A/t/a, ‘bow to God as Muslims,’ ‘are Muslims’ and ‘are the submitting ones.’ But ‘submit to the will of God (… are Muslims),’ ‘submit,’ ‘submit to You,’ ‘have submitted’ and ‘have  surrendered (unto thee) as verbs are not accurate translations of the noun that the Holy Qor-aan has used)
