اَ لَّذِيۡنَ اٰتَيۡنٰهُمُ الۡـكِتٰبَ يَعۡرِفُوۡنَهٗ كَمَا يَعۡرِفُوۡنَ اَبۡنَآءَهُمُ‌ۘ اَ لَّذِيۡنَ خَسِرُوۡۤا اَنۡفُسَهُمۡ فَهُمۡ لَا يُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ

 

Ul-la-zee-na-aa-tai-naa-ho-mool-kay-ta-ba                                                                                  Yau-ray-foo-na-hoo-ka-maa-yau-ray-foo-na-ub-naa-aa-hoom                                                Ul-la-zee-na-aa-kha-say-roo-un-fo-sa-hoom                                                                              Fa-hoom-laa-yoe-may-noo-n

 

Those whom we gave the Book                                                                                        Recognize it like that they recognize their sons.                                                              Those who lost their souls                                                                                                    Then they do not believe.

     

  • ٱلَّذِينَ — Ul-la-zee-na — Those who (= pl., m, 3rd person. Refers to those articles, persons, or phenomenon or things in masculine gender. A/t/a, ‘Those to whom,’ ‘Those unto whom’ and ‘Those whom’)
  • اٰتَيۡ — Aa-taiy — Gave (= v., past., m., pl., 2nd person. Delivered; gifted; granted; had given; handed down; handed over; paid; presented; remitted. Also. awarded; bestowed; conferred; laid out. See 002:178. A/t/a, ‘have given’)
  • نَآ — Naa — We (= pro., pl., 1st person. Our; Us. Used with God’s name this is the authoritative way a higher-up talks)
  • هُمُ — Ho-mo…(ol) — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • الۡـكِتٰبَ — Kay-taa-ba — The Book (= n., The Divine Directive of Commands, Prohibitions   and Regulations. Holy Scripture. A/t/a, ‘Scripture,’  ‘This perfect Book,’ ‘the earlier Scripture,’ ‘the Scripture (Jews and Christians),’ ‘the Scriptures’ and ‘the Book’)
  • يَعۡرِفُوۡنَ — Yau-ray-foo-na — They recognize (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Admit; identify; know well. A/t/a, ‘recognize,’ ‘Recognise,’ ‘recognise (this Revelation)’ and ‘know’)
  • هٗ — Hoo — It / him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Him; it. This pronoun refers to – A/t/a,  1. Allah. 2. ‘Revelation,’ ‘this (Qur’an)’ and ‘Book.’ 3. ‘Prophet,’ ‘him,’ ‘him (-the Prophet Muhammad)’ and ‘him [i.e. Muhammad s.a.w. as Messenger of Allah, and they also know that there is no Ilah (God) but Allah and Islam is Allah’s religion]’)
  • كَ — Ka — Like (= Identical; resembling; similar to. A/t/a, ‘as’)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — That (= What; whatever; whatsoever; at such time; when)
  • يَعۡرِفُوۡنَ — Yau-ray-foo-na — They recognize (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Identify; know. See  يَعۡرِفُوۡنَ  above)
  • اَبۡنَآءَ — Ub-naa-aa– Sons (= n., pl., This word is the plural of  ابۡن  (ibn) and means sons, boys, male family members or men. But the term  اَبۡنَآءَ  includes children h.l.s. (how low so ever), descendants, off-springs, posterity, progeny. A/t/a, ‘children’)
  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • ٱلَّذِينَ — Ul-la-zee-na — Those who (= pl., m, 3rd person. Refers to those articles, persons,  or phenomenon or things in masculine gender. A/t/a, ‘Those who,’ ‘But those who’ and ‘Yet those who)
  • خَسِرُوۡۤا — Kha-say-roo — Lost (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Destroyed. Ruined. Caused or   suffered loss or harm. A/t/a, ‘have lost,’ ‘have lost (destroyed),’ ‘But they have lost,’  ‘have ruined’ and ‘have forfeited.’ However,  ‘ruin’ in the present tense is no translation of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated in the past tense)
  • اَنۡفُسَ — Un-fo-sa — Selves (= n., pl., Hearts; individuals; minds; persons; souls. A/t/a, ‘selves’)
  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they. A/t/a, ‘them,’ ’their’ and ‘own souls’)
  • فَ — Fa — Then (= After all this; at the end; consequently; finally; hence; so; thereafter; therefore; thus)
  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • لَا — Laa — Do not (= Naught; neither; never; none; nor; not at all; absolute denial and total negation without exception. A/t/a, ‘refuse to’ and ‘will never’)
  • يُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ — Yoe-may-noo-na — They Believe (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Enter faith; follow the Holy Qor-aan, the Iss-laam and are Moslems. A/t/a, ‘believe,’  ‘will … believe’ and ‘have faith’)
