The Holy Qor-aan 006:021
اَ لَّذِيۡنَ اٰتَيۡنٰهُمُ الۡـكِتٰبَ يَعۡرِفُوۡنَهٗ كَمَا يَعۡرِفُوۡنَ اَبۡنَآءَهُمُۘ اَ لَّذِيۡنَ خَسِرُوۡۤا اَنۡفُسَهُمۡ فَهُمۡ لَا يُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ
Aul-la-ze-na aa-tai-naa ho-mo ol-kay-ta-ba Yau-ray-foo-na hoo ka-maa yau-ray-foo-na aub-naa-aa hoom Aul-la-ze-na-aa kha-say-roo aun-fo-sa hoom fa hoom laa yoe-may-noo-n
Those We gave them the Book They recognize it like they recognize their sons. They are those who lost their souls and so they do not believe.
- ٱلَّذِينَ — Aul-la-ze-na — Those who (= pl., m, 3rd person. Refers to those articles, persons, or phenomenon or things in masculine gender. A/t/a, ‘Those to whom,’ ‘Those unto whom’ and ‘Those whom’)
- اٰتَيۡنٰ — Aa-taiy-naa — We gave (= v., past., pl., 1st person. This word is a combination of two words. The first word is اٰتَيۡ (= Aa-tai = v., past., s., 3rd person) which on its own means he delivered, gave, gifted, granted, handed down or over, paid, presented or remitted. The second word is نَآ (= naa,= pro., pl., 1st person) and means we or us, but used with the name of God reflects the authoritative way a higher-up talks to a subordinate. When joined the combination is turned into a 1st person’s act. See Note 001:007)
- هُمُ — Ho-mo … (ol) — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
- الۡـكِتٰبَ — Kay-taa-ba — The Book (= n., The Divine Directive of Commands, Prohibitions and Regulations. Holy Scripture. A/t/a, ‘Scripture,’ ‘This perfect Book,’ ‘the earlier Scripture,’ ‘the Scripture (Jews and Christians),’ ‘the Scriptures’ and ‘the Book’)
- يَعۡرِفُوۡنَ — Yau-ray-foo-na — They recognize (= v., pres., p., 3rd person. Identify. Know. Recognize. A/t/a, ‘recognize,’ ‘Recognise,’ ‘recognise (this Revelation)’ and ‘know’)
- هٗ — Hoo — It (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Him; it. This pronoun refers to – A/t/a, 1. Allah. 2. ‘Revelation,’ ‘this (Qur’an)’ and ‘Book.’ 3. ‘Prophet,’ ‘him’ and ‘him (-the Prophet Muhammad). ’ 4. ‘him [i.e. Muhammad s.a.w. as Messenger of Allah, and they also know that there is no Ilah (God) but Allah and Islam is Allah’s religion]’)
- كَ — Ka — Like (= Identical; resembling; similar to. A/t/a, ‘as’)
- مَاۤ — Maa — That (= What; whatever; whatsoever; at such time; when)
- يَعۡرِفُوۡنَ — Yau-ray-foo-na — They recognize (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Identify; know. See يَعۡرِفُوۡنَ above)
- اَبۡنَآءَ — Aub-naa-aa– Sons (= n., pl., This word is the plural of ابۡن (ibn) and means sons, boys, male family members or men. But the term اَبۡنَآءَ includes children h.l.s. (how low so ever), descendants, off-springs, posterity, progeny. A/t/a, ‘children’)
- هُمۡ — Hoom — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
- ٱلَّذِينَ — Aul-la-ze-na — Those who (= pl., m, 3rd person. Refers to those articles, persons, or phenomenon or things in masculine gender. A/t/a, ‘Those who,’ ‘But those who’ and ‘Yet those who)
- خَسِرُوۡۤا — Kha-say-roo — Lost (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Destroyed. Ruined. Caused or suffered loss or harm. A/t/a, ‘have lost,’ ‘have lost (destroyed),’ ‘But they have lost,’ ‘have ruined’ and ‘have forfeited.’ However, ‘ruin’ in the present tense is no translation of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated in the past tense)
- اَنۡفُسَ — Aun-fo-sa — Selves (= n., pl., Hearts; individuals; minds; persons; souls. A/t/a, ‘selves’)
- هُمۡ — Hoom — Their (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they. A/t/a, ‘them’ and ‘own souls’)
- فَ — Fa — So (= After all this; at the end; consequently; finally; hence; so; then; thereafter; therefore; thus)
- هُمۡ — Hoom — They (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
- لَا — Laa — Do not (= Naught; neither; never; none; nor; not at all; absolute denial and total negation without exception. A/t/a, ‘refuse to’ and ‘will never’)
- يُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ — Yoe-may-noo-na — They Believe (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. Enter faith; follow the Holy Qor-aan, the Iss-laam and are Moslems. A/t/a, ‘believe,’ ‘will … believe’ and ‘have faith’)
