The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                  006:038

 

وَ قَالُوۡا لَوۡلَا نُزِّلَ عَلَيۡهِ اٰيَةٌ مِّنۡ رَّبِّهٖ‌ؕ  قُلۡ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ قَادِرٌ عَلٰٓى اَنۡ يُّنَزِّلَ اٰيَةً  وَّلٰـكِنَّ اَكۡثَرَهُمۡ لَا يَعۡلَمُوۡنَ

 

Wa-qaa-loo-lao-laa-nooz-zay-alai-hay-aa-ya-toom-mir-rub-bay-he                                      Qool-in-nul-laa-ha-qaa-day-roon-ala-un-yo-nuz-zay-la-aa-ya-toon                                      Wa-laa-kin-na-uk-tha-r-hoom-laaa-yoe-may-noo-n

 

And they say, “Why has not been revealed to him a sign from His God.”              Say, “ Surely Allah has all power that He reveals a sign.”                                            But most of them do not know.  

 

  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • قَالُوۡا — Qaa-loo — They said (= v., past, pl., m., 3rdperson: All those men announced; called; declared; told. See  Note 112:002 and Commentary ‘You say’ means.  A/t/a, ‘they said,’ ‘They say’ and ‘They ask’)
  • لَوۡ — Lao –Why (= In case; wish; would. A/t/a,  ‘Why has,’   ‘Why is’ and ‘Why hath’)
  •  لَا — Laa — Not (= Naught; neither; never; none; nor; not at all; absolute denial and total negation without exception)
  • نُزِّلَ — Nooz-zay-la — Revealed (= v., past., pass., 3rd person. Awarded, dropped, entrusted, given or inspired; sent down. A/t/a, ‘revealed,’ ‘sent down,’ ‘been sent down’ and ‘come down’)
  • عَلَيۡ– Alai — On (= Above; against; before; during; for; on; on top of; over. A/t/a, ‘to’)
  • هِ — Hay — Him (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to aforesaid Messenger)
  • اٰيَةٌ — Aa-ya-toon(m) —  Sign (= n., s., An argument, corroboration, indication, insinuation, pointer, portent, prof, sign, suggestion, symbol or token. See Note 002:074. A/t/a, ‘sign,’ ‘a sign (asked for)’ and ‘portent’)
  • مِنۡ —  Min — From (= Among, from or out of the class or category of several articles, counts, kind, things, persons or phenomenon)
  • رَّبِّ — Rub-bay — God / Lord (= The Almighty Allah who fills all needs of all His creatures; Creator; Master; One Who Sustain; The Lord provident; The Ultimate Provider of Air, water, food and whatever we need to live and subsist)
  • هٖ — He — His (= pro., s., m., 3rd person. Refers to the Almighty God)
  • قُلۡ — Qool — Say (= v., s, 2nd person. Announce; command; convey; explain; inform; insist; instruct; maintain; mandate; order; state; preach; proclaim; profess; teach; tell. See Commentary ‘You say’ means …’  A/t/a, ‘Say’ and ‘Tell them’)
  • اِنَّ — In-na … (ul) — Certainly (= Absolutely; clearly, decidedly; definitely; doubtlessly; indeed; positively; really; surely; truly; verily. A/t/a, ‘certainly’ and ‘Lo!’)
  • اللّٰهَ — Laa-ha — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • قَادِرٌ — Qaa-day-roon — Has all power (= superlative form that includes the meanings of ‘fullness and totality of control.’ Controller. Has the absolute power to do what He wills. Master and Possessor of all powers. A/t/a, ‘hath Power,’ ‘has power,’ ‘able to,’ ‘Able to,’ ‘is well able to’ and ‘has power and is Appraiser (as to how and when)’
  • عَلٰى — Alaa– On (= Above; against; before; during; for; on; on top of; over; to; upon)
  • يُّنَزِّلَ — Yo-nuz-zay-la — Reveals (= v., pres., s., 3rd person. Awarded, dropped, entrusted, given or inspired. A/t/a, ‘to send down’)
  • اٰيَةً — Aa-ya-ton — Sign (= n. An argument, corroboration. See  اٰيَةٌ  above)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • لٰـكِنَّ — Laa-kin-na — But (= However; instead; nevertheless; yet. A/t/a, ‘but’)
  • اَكۡثَرَ — Uk-tha-ro — Most (= adj., countess; numerous; several; sundry; voluminous. A/t/a, ‘most of’)
  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • لَا — Laa — Do not (= Naught; neither; never; none; nor; not at all; absolute denial and total negation without exception)
  • يَعۡلَمُوۡنَ —  Yau-la-moo-n — They know (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person., Knowing the consequences of their calumny and enormity of their prior wrongs. A/t/a, ‘not understand,’ ‘do not know,’ ‘know it not,’ ‘know (it) not’ and ‘are ignorant men’)
