The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                 006:041

 

قُلۡ اَرَءَيۡتَكُمۡ اِنۡ اَتٰٮكُمۡ عَذَابُ اللّٰهِ اَوۡ اَ تَتۡكُمُ السَّاعَةُ اَغَيۡرَ اللّٰهِ تَدۡعُوۡنَ‌ۚ اِنۡ كُنۡتُمۡ صٰدِقِيۡنَ

 

Qool-aa-ra-aye-ta-koom-in-aa-taa-koom-azaa-bool-laa-hay                                                    Auo-aa-tut-ko-moos-saa-aa-to                                                                                                            Aa-ghai-rul-laa-hay-tud-oo-na-in-koon-toom-saa-day-qee-n

 

Say, “Did you see when Allah’s punishment reached you                                            Or the hour of distress came upon you,                                                                              You praying to anyone besides Allah if you are truthful?”

 

The text in the next three (3) words is in verses 006:048006:047 and 006:041. 

  • قُلۡ — Qool — Say (= v., s, 2nd person. Announce; broadcast; call; command; convey; explain; inform; insist; instruct; maintain; mandate; order; preach; proclaim; profess; propagate;  state; teach; tell. See Note 112:002 and Commentary ‘You say’ means.  See Commentary “‘You say’ means.” A/t/a, ‘‘Say (O Muhammad s.a.w)’  and ‘Ask them’) 
  • اَ — Aa — Did (= Word asking a question like are, can, could, do, did, had, have, shell, should, will, would, what, etc.)
  • رَءَيۡتَ — Ra-aye-ta — You seen (= v., past., s., 2nd person. Considered; knew; noticed; observed; realized; thought of; witnessed.  A/t/a, ‘see,’ ‘see yourself,’ ‘Think ye to yourself,’  ‘think ye,’ ‘Tell me,’ ‘Do you even consider’ and ‘Consider then. But that translation as a verb in the present tense is not of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated with a verb in the present tense) ’)
  • كُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., 2nd person. You all men. The Holy Qor-aan addresses men and women jointly this way generally)
  • اِنۡ — In — When / If (= If; in case; under the circumstances; when; whenever)
  • اَتٰ — Aa-taa — Reached (= v., past, s., 3rd person. Arrived; came upon; struck. See 002:259. A/t/a, ‘came upon.’ However, ‘overtake,’ ‘comes upon,’ ‘come upon,’ ‘come’ and ‘smites’ in the present tense is no translation of what the Holy Qor-aan has stated in the past tense)
  • كُمۡ — Koom — You (= pro., pl., 2nd person. You all men. The Holy Qor-aan addresses men and women jointly this way generally)
  • عَذَابُ — Azaa-b … (ol) — Punishment (= Appropriate, due and fair agony, chastisement, doom, hard task, penalty, recompense; torment, torture or scourge or wroth)
  • اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • اَوۡ — Auo — Or (= Alternatively; in substitution)
  • اَ تَتۡ — Aa-tut — Reached (= v., past., f., s., 3rd person. Arrived; came out. See اَتٰ  above  A/t//a, ‘overtook’)
  • كُمُ — Ko-mo … (os) — You (= pro., pl., 2nd person. You all. See  كُمۡ  above)
  • السَّاعَةُ — Saa-aa-to — The hour (= n., Appointed or Fixed Time. Day of Judgment. Time for Final Accounting. Hour of Doom.  Also, ticking of the clock. A/t/a, ‘The Hour,’ ‘the Hour (you dread),’ ‘the Hour’ (of the decisive victory of Islam),’ ‘the promised (Hour)’ and ‘the Hour of Doom suddenly’)
  • اَ — Aa — Do (= Question mark like  Are, Can, Have, Shell or Will? A/t/a, ‘will you,’  ‘would you’ and ‘Would you then’)
  • غَيۡرَ — Ghai-ra … (ul) — Besides (= Else; excluding; not; other than; out of; without. A/t/a, ‘other than,’ ‘any other than,’ ‘any one other than,’ ‘any others besides,’ and ‘on any but’)
  • اللّٰهِ — Laa-hay — Allah (= The One and the Only One Almighty God)
  • تَدۡعُوۡنَ‌ — Tud-oo-na — You pray (= v., pres., pl., 2nd person. Call for help; pray; seek help. A/t/a, ‘call upon,’ ‘call on,’ ‘(then) call upon (any god)’ and ‘you, calling upon’ and repeated in the same verse as ‘Do you then call (for help)’
  • اِنۡ — In — If (= In case; under the circumstances; when. A/t/a, ‘(Reply) if’ and ‘Answer me if’ )
  • كُنۡـتُمۡ — Koon-toom — You have been (=You have been (= pro., pl., m., 2nd person. It is a  combination of two words. The first word is كُنۡ which means have or had been since the past. The second word is  تُمۡ  that means you all men and that is how the Holy Qor-aan has addressed men and women jointly. A/t/a, ‘are’)
  • صٰدِقِيۡنَ —  Saa-day-qee-n — Truthful (= n., pl. Those who tell the truth. Honest; right; sincere; speaking the truth. A/t/a, ‘truthful,’ ‘ye are truthful,’ ‘what you say be true,’  ‘men of truth’ and ‘truly’)
