The Holy Qor-aan                                                                                                                   006:044

 

فَلَوۡلَاۤ اِذۡ جَآءَهُمۡ بَاۡسُنَا تَضَرَّعُوۡا وَلٰـكِنۡ قَسَتۡ قُلُوۡبُهُمۡ وَزَيَّنَ لَهُمُ الشَّيۡطٰنُ مَا كَانُوۡا يَعۡمَلُوۡنَ‏

 

Fa-lao-laa-iz-jaa-aa-hoom-bau-so-naa-ta-zur-ra-oo                                                                  Wa-laa-kin-qa-sut-qo-loo-bo-hoom-wa                                                                                            Zuy-ya-na-la-ho-moosh-shai-taa-no-maa-kaa-no-yau-ma-loo-n

 

Then why did not they grow humble when Our wrath came to them?                    And instead, their hearts hardened and                                                                            The Satan beautified for them what they were practicing.

 

  • فَ — Fa — Then (= After all this; at the end; consequently; finally; hence; in conclusion; so; thereafter; therefore; thus. A/t/a, ‘Yet’ and ‘When’ )
  • لَوۡ — Lao — Why (= If the situation arises; in case; under the circumstances; would it be that. A/t/a, ‘if only’)
  • لَا — Laa — Not (= Naught; neither; never; none; nor; not at all; absolute denial and total negation without exception. A/t/a, ‘did not’ and ‘did … not’)
  • اِذۡ — Iz  — When (= At the time or event; call to mind; recall; remember; think of the time, event, occasion or opportunity. Also, behold; consider; ponder over; reflect)
  • جَآءَ — Jaa-aa — Came (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Arrived; reached; returned. Also, in different contexts the word can mean achieved, brought, delivered, settled or succeeded. A/t/a, ‘came upon,’ ‘came on’ and ‘overtook’)
  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • بَاۡسُ — Bau-so — Wrath (= n., Anguish; anxiety; apprehension; disquiet; distress; fear; fretfulness; nervousness; unease; worry. Extreme anger or wrath; Also describes a moment of extreme discomfort and uncontrollable physical pain usually resulting in very fast heartbeats and palpitation. A/t/a, ‘suffering,’ ‘punishment,’ ‘disaster,’  ‘torment,’ ‘might’ and ‘scourge’)
  • نَآ — Naa — Our (= pro., pl., 1st person. Our; Us. Used with God’s name this is the authoritative way a higher-up talks)
  • تَضَرَّعُوۡا — Ta-zur-ra-oo — Grow humble (= v., pres., f/g.,  pl., 3rd person. Become meek, modest, servile, obsequious and unassuming. A/t/a, ‘Learn humility,’ ‘humble themselves’ and ‘humble themselves (believe with humility.’ But the past tense‘ used in ‘humbled themselves’ and ‘they had been humble’ is no translation of what the Holy  Qor-aan has described in the present tense)
  • وَ  — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses; additionally; but; also; more over; though; when; while; yet)
  • لٰـكِنۡ — Laa-kin — But (= However; instead; nevertheless; yet. A/t/a, ‘On the contrary,’ ‘Instead’ and ‘(It was for the fact that)’
  • قَسَتۡ — Qaa-sut — Hardened (= v., past., s., f/g., 3rd person. Became or turned crude, difficult to be molded and improved, hard-hearted, solidified, stabilized, stiffened, strengthened, rough and tough or toughened. A/t/a, ‘became hardened,’ ‘were hardened,’ ‘became even more hardened,’ ‘were hardened all the more’ and ‘had hardened’)
  • قُلُوۡبُ — Qo-loo-bo — Hearts (= n., pl., Refers to the ability to think, choose, decide and  act in an appropriate manner physically and spiritually. Mind. Inner soul. Understanding. Actually the central organ inside the chest of all living creatures that keeps up the supply of blood to every tissue by pumping blood constantly through veins and controls the body parts and directs all their functions)
  • هُمۡ‌ — Hoom — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • وَ — Wa — And (= Conj., links words, phrases or clauses. See وَ  above)
  • زَيَّنَ — Zuy-ya-na — Beautified (= v., past., s., 3rd person. Made or turned to appear fair  seeming, attractive, beautiful, captivating, charming, covetous, decorative, desirable, enchanting, enticing, look good, lucrative, luring, nice or tempting. A/t/a, ‘Made their (sinful) acts seem alluring,’ ‘made … seem fair,’ ‘made … appear attractive’ and ‘made … seem alluring’)
  • لَ — La — For (= Because of; concerning; due to; for the object, purpose or reason of; intended for; on account of; regarding; relative to. A/t/a, belonging to; to; towards. A/t/a, ‘unto’)
  • هُمُ — Ho-mo..(osh) — Them (= pro., pl., m., 3rd person. Those men; they; theirs)
  • الشَّيۡطٰنُ —  Shai-ta-no — Satan (= n., The evil tendencies. A/t/a, ‘the devil’)
  • مَاۤ — Maa — All that (= What; whatever; whatsoever. A/t/a, ‘that which’)
  • كَانُوۡۤا — Kaa-noo — They were (= v., past., pl., m., 3rd person., Continued doing; had been  went on; were doing. A/t/a, ‘used to’)
  • يَعۡمَلُوۡنَ — Yau-ma-loo-n — They practicing (= v., pres., pl., 3rd person. This word includes doing the  same thing again and again continually. Also, act, do, execute, exercise, implement, operate, perform or work.See Note 002:075b. A/t/a, The verb in the past tense in ‘they did ’ and the nouns in ‘their deeds,’ ‘their acts’ and ‘their foul acts’ are no translations of the verb in the present tense that the Holy Qor-aan has used)
